UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

The MMA media is blowing the Vaseline thing out of proportion. If you read between the lines, you almost get the feeling that some are attributed GSP's win to it This is not a Sakuraba/Akiyama type situation where Sakuraba couldn't take him down and then proceeded to SCREAM at the referee that he was "slippery" and stopped fighting. Of course, that referee being a K-1 referee was utterly incompetent and didn't do anything. Here, they can only prove that the cornerman used a trace amount most likely because he "forgot" to wipe off his hands after putting some on GSP's face. Okay. Ban the corner man and anyone who did it. Done. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to think it affected the fight. By the beginning of round two (where most say it happened), Penn was already tired because GSP had worn him out against the cage with his intended gameplan. The vaseline didn't help GSP get those takedowns, and at most you can say it helped GSP pass Penn's guard. Standing, it didn't help GSP land jabs and shots at will. Penn was being destroyed in all facets of the game. If you wanna believe that GSP was greased and therefore had a huge advantage, then I guess you could...but Penn wasn't going to win that fight. Round one before any "greasing" pretty much proved it. I almost want to call sour grapes on most of the reports. Some, like Zach Arnold I get the feeling is just hunting for a story to run, while others I almost believe they don't want to accept Penn's loss and are running this as if to say "SEE?! SEE?! GSP COULDN'T WIN FAIR THE CHEATER!"

    Fallout 3

Get an uber gun (You can get a Small gun easily, or a unique Plasma even easier for Energy user), and just go murder anything in your path in sidequests. Or just wander around discovering stuff. The game rewards you with XP for that. Up the difficulty to very hard and you'll level even faster. Granted, you have to survive, but it'll be quicker. The game has replay value as a good guy and as a bad guy. I got bored of the mix/maxing of the karma system for Neutral.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

I'd still say roids are pretty heavily used in K-1. Just look at Jerome LeBanner. Guy is gigantic. That's not even looking at guys like Bonjasky who aren't huge but are ripped. It's Japan though. Goes with the territory.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

It's a little bit unfair to compare Jon Fitch/BJ Penn. Outside of pride, what did BJ Penn have to fight for? They can't take away his belt. Realizing he was going to lose the fight made him give up mentally. It happens. That was always my problem with this fight. Aside from BJ Penn being granted the chance to make history, there wasn't anything pressing in this fight. Jon Fitch on the other hand? He knew he may NEVER get another shot. He fought and fought to get that title shot. So, Jon Fitch stayed alive on pure heart alone. It wasn't skill on the bottom like BJ Penn that kept him alive. It was the fact that Jon Fitch refused to be finished no matter what GSP hit him with. I think the old saying is, "You can't teach heart". Anyway, on more sound issues. At the Press Conference they said that they are still going to wait on Jackson/Jardine to decide Rashad's defense. Bullshitery. Lyoto even went as far as to call out Rashad practically, and he still might get passed over. I'd be wondering if I'd litterally have to kill a man to get a title shot at this point if I was him.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

The BJ Penn fanboyism has always been insane online. You'd see people who'd swear up and down, left and right that BJ Penn was the greatest fighter ever and could beat anyone. The fact is, BJ Penn is a great fighter. But he's not some mythical fighter. He fought someone who was as skilled as he was, who knew what he was fighting, and who was very much stronger then Penn himself was. Size won out. This is exactly why we have weight classes. If they were similiar weights, could GSP been able to shut down Penn like that? I don't know. But it doesn't matter. That's hypothetical. This is reality. 155 is where BJ Penn needs to be, while GSP is a VERY VERY big 170. At 170, GSP was far too strong for Penn to deal with. And BJ Penn did a FANTASTIC job surviving, but in the end, no matter how much technical skill, no matter how much ability he displayed, GSP had his own skills and just was far too strong.

Jon "Bones" Jones is going to be someone to watch. Bonnar's not the best fighter, but if he wasn't so goddamn tough Jones would have finished him several times. I really think there's only a handful of people who could take that spinning elbow and not be done. Bonnar fought back. Jones hit throws, great strikes, great wrestling. He got tired, but he was beating himself a man. That tends to happen.

Even though I'm on "Team GSP", I liked Penn. I didn't like seeing him being destroyed like that. Penn may be more technical, but you can't overcome the size. Penn never had any answer for GSP's strength. He had nothing after about halfway through round two and just survived.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

If GSP is looking past BJ Penn (Which I strongly doubt given it's a Champion vs. Champion fight), he's probably thinking about Thiago Alves. He'd fight Alves before he fought Silva, and Alves is one of the few guys in the WW division that is bigger then GSP. But I doubt he is. He'd be a goddamn fool to.

    Fallout 3

Not really. FO1 and 2 were even more breakable. Crank all your points into Small Guns in the first few levels, have a decent Perception and Agility, get a half-decent weapon, and you're unstoppable. FO2 also had the infamous 15 minute APA walk. That really wasn't my opinion of Fallout 2. Yes, you could break it easily (All you really had to do was trek to Navarro at level 1 if you could survive and pick up the free Power Armor. And the gun stores in San Fran have everything) but I never found myself feeling overpowered in Fallout 2. Until I got to the end game, the best armor I used was the Bridgekeeper's Robes, and until I got Gauss, the weapon I used was the Magnum. I was strong but I wasn't unstoppable. Granted, on the one character I played most I skimped a bit of Perception, so perhaps that did it. Fallout 3 on the other hand, by the time you hit level 10 no matter what build you use you're pretty goddamn hard to kill. By fifteen you're pretty much unstoppable. By twenty there isn't anything that'll stop you. It's just how the game levels you. With everything you mentioned, that's kind of intentionally breaking the game. Fallout 3 just breaks itself as you play.

    Fallout 3

That's the funniest thing about Fallout 3. Even if you up the difficulty to the highest, after you hit a certain point there's really nothing left that can give you problems. As long as you're packing a great weapon, enough ammo, and a good set of armor you are set. In this way, Bethesda kind of missed one of the elements of Fallout 1 and 2. No matter what your level in those games, there's always enemies out there that will give you problems. A pack of Wandingo's? Or god forbid a pack of Fire Gecko's and you weren't fully prepared. I think that's another problem...Most times you run into enemies one on one. In past games due to it being turnbased, you'd run into swarms. Most enemies = More problems. There's PC mods that increase the number of enemies you run into at any one time, but that doesn't help the 360 or PS3 versions. It makes me wonder how in the hell they're gonna pull off raising the level cap for the March DLC. Just because idiots were screaming for it, doesn't mean they should do it. They'll have to introduce new enemies to make the game any sort of challenge at all. Or increase the spawns. Running into five Deathclaws even at level 25 or whatever would probably be pretty goddamn terrifying.

Most of this special was just slow motion shots it felt like. And I swear the ratio for GSP to Penn was pretty skewered. But I didn't see all of it and left the room a few times. I can't honestly say these specials did anything for me. Maybe they did for the average fan, but as someone who doesn't really overly care for either man, it didn't do anything for me. The only thing I came away with is that BJ Penn can talk some serious shit.

    ROH On HDNet

It's possible. TNA's more likely though. ROH is more direct competition to TNA then WWE. If WWE REALLY wanted ROH talent, they could get ROH talent. Out of the entire ROH roster, they may make a play for Danielson but I think that'd be about it.

    Fallout 3

It'd be interesting to see how it'd play with a new character. I played with my original, 100 in small guns, level 20, and I couldn't figure out if the game was going off my stats in the simulation, or if it had it's own plan. I found myself shockingly inaccurate in the sim at times. On the other hand, if you beat it with a low level, the low level will get some epic gear. The only downside, is I think they made it so only one or two special items can be repaired. Since many are one of a kind items in the Fallout 3 era, you can't get the Gauss Rifle repaired for example. But while the rifle still works, you'd tear people up. I think I'd wait, honestly...Because there isn't a lot to OA outside of some fun battles. The scale of it is pretty impressive , but it's linear and there's no possibilities for alternatives. You just...do the missions. That's really all there is. The Pitt is SUPPOSED to offer a serious storyline, choices, and moral issues, while Broken Steel is basically a full expansion pack with level caps raised, a new main storyline, and so on.

    Fallout 3

Yeah, the next one is "The Pitt". Not like there's anything else on live I'd spend the points on.

    Fallout 3

I can understand that mentality. But it's not like they hid what this DLC would be about. It's just a war simulation, and you can get neat shit at the end. I've seen people bitch about it, and it basically boils down to that. They're unhappy at what they got...but this is all Bethesda promised with this one. Sucks about the exclusivity thing though. Nothing you can do about that. The only thing that kinda bugs me, is Microsoft's inane MS point structure. I had to pony up for 1000 points even though I already had 200. So MS's point structure robbed me of a few dollars. I'll probably just use it towards Pitt next month.

    Fallout 3

I beat it...I got a solid four hours or so out of it. I'm satisfied. Here's some thoughts for those on the fence. - If you liked non-fighting in Fallout 3, stay away. The entire DLC is built around murdering commie scum. No alternates. No nothing. - There are pretty big set pieces and some cool enemies you have to face. I fought two Chimera tanks that were both tough to take down, and the Chinese Snipers with their stealth field were fucking annoying. - The DLC actually gets progressively easier. You start off bewildered (if it's your first time through), a 10mm Silenced pistol, and a knife. You also can't pick up weapons from dead enemies. And you're alone for the beginning. I had a hell of a time surviving. Later on, you'll find plenty of health/ammo stations, you'll have allies, and it's just generally easier on you. Odd how it went. I breezed through the final bit, which is just weird. At the end, you get the highly touted gadgets (Gauss Rifle, Stealth Suit, new power armor) and it ends when you finish the simulation. The Gauss Rifle is the third strongest Energy Rifle in the game, and runs off Microfusion cells unlike the Alien Blaster & Firelance. Meaning if you can use a Plasma you can use Gauss. I haven't played with those, but the Gauss Rifle will knock enemies down on critical hits...and then with your next shot you get a virtual mafia style murder shot. I shot one guy and sent him FLYING across the room. Then shot him in the head ON the ground. I've never had the Alien Blaster or Firelance and dunno if they do that, but I know other Energy weapons do not. On the flipside, you get one shot per reload. Meaning you need to make it count. On this character I ran through, he wasn't great at Energy weapons. Next I'm gonna run through with my character at 100. I expect great things. Overall, it depends on your taste. The Fallout 3 forum is ON FIRE with complaints, but meh. If you enjoy some shooter fun, and want some high powered shit for your character, it's a fine investment. But it's more or less just putting you in the role of an action hero. Nothing really deep.

    Fallout 3

Fallout 3 DLC is out. I'm about an hour or so into it. It's interesting...The lack of healing items at the beginning and lack of equipment makes it a challenge. It's hard taking out soldiers with just a silenced 10mm even with 100 in small guns. So far, I'm enjoying it...but I got a headache from playing and took a break.

    ROH On HDNet

HDNET isn't huge, but this is a major step forward for ROH. They were never going to grow any further with the DVD system. Going to TV was their only option. That or eventual death. Now, what I think would be the ideal format for ROH would be an ECW approach. One or two good matches on a TV taping, mostly angles/interviews all building to big shows, and then you never show any of the big shows but you mention them. ALOT. Ideally, you'd want to increase attendance and keep DVD buys at the same rate. It'll be the only way to see these one or two a month huge shows. But the TV show *Has* to have enough content to keep people tuning in. Then in a few years (or sooner depending on growth) you can abandon the DVD market as secondary, and eventually move into a huge PPV's. If HD NET is paying production, then there's absolutely no reason ROH can't make this isn't a huge deal for them. ROH has made a major, major step.

    Affliction: Day of Reckoning

Affliction has never been a barrier for the UFC agreement. Non-factor really. It's always been Fedor wanting to be able to do whatever he wants, and his management being huge douches. If the two sides wanted to deal, they'd deal. Fedor would probably have signed with UFC years ago if it wasn't for his management. They honestly believe that using "M-1 Global" they can reach some level off Fedor's back that they can be competitive with UFC. I don't honestly think Fedor's fully aware of everything that's been said or done.

What makes this even more hilarious, is Arlovski lost for the same reasons I said he could win. Fucking PWNED I was.

    Affliction: Day of Reckoning

Just like Mirko exposed it... Apples and oranges. I don't remember hearing how Mirko was going to "expose" Fedor standing, and I was pretty heavily into the hype for that fight. At that time, Mirko was considered the most deadly striker in the HW division by a wide margin. If anything, the feeling was Mirko would knock Fedor out standing due to how more "evolved" he was. What we did not know, and wouldn't know until Fedor fought him was that if someone stalked Mirko, he'd fold like an accordian. Mirko can't function in a role where he's being the one chased. We didn't know it because FEDOR demonstrated that gameplan in MMA. No one did that until Fedor did. And it worked so well that it's become gameplan 101 for Mirko. Unless Arlovski's got some type of flaw waiting to be exposed like Sylvia's style of punching, or Mirko's mental weakness, you probably won't see any such thing happen tonight.
