    What records

Bagwell & Biggio have played their entire careers in Houston.

    This week in Baseball

7-6 Seattle, top 9, 2 out, bases loaded. Giambi strikes out looking on 3 pitches. Game over, win streak over, hopefully, Giambi over.

    This week in Baseball

Mussina gave up 2 in the first and already threw about 30 pitches. 4-2 Yanks in the second.

Now you're just talking out of your ass when there's Jeff Kent in the NL. I don't like Jeff Kent but he's millions of lightyears better than Matsui (and the Japanese fans aren't that stupid) Jeff Kent will easily win, seeing that he won by well over a million votes last year. Still, Matsui finished third last year when he was a shortstop, behind only Adam Everett and Edgar Renteria. While the Japanese effect will not help Kazuo as much as Hideki or Ichiro, it does exist. N.L. Shortstop will be very interesting. Renteria switched leagues, Everett was a hometown pick, Matsui changed positions, and Barry Larkin (4th in balloting) retired. That leaves Jack Wilson (currently hitting under the Mendoza line), Rafael Furcal, Alex Gonzalez (now playing on the Devil Rays), and Jimmy Rollins. Clint Barmes has an excellent chance of stepping into the void. For the record, here are my starters. Flame away... N.L. C- Paul Lo Duca, Fla 1B- Albert Pujols, StL 2B- Jeff Kent, LAD SS- Rafael Furcal, Atl 3B- Scott Rolen, StL OF- Barry Bonds, SFG OF- Adam Dunn, Cin OF- Bobby Abreu, Phi The Bonds pick is going to raise eyebrows, so let me explain. I base my picks on who is the BEST player currently. I don't see the selections as a reward for half a season of good performance. I view it as a person trying to select the best team possible. If Bonds is healthy (unlikely), he plays. If not, then you take the next player. I took Furcal over Barmes because Furcal has a track record. Barmes is having a nice season, but he has 145 at bats, and six walks. That is not an all-star. That is a hot streak. The rest are fairly self-explanatory I think. Rolen, same deal as Bonds. I can not exclude a player after nearly a decade of performance based on an injury. A.L. C- Ivan Rodriguez, Det 1B- Mark Teixeira, Tex 2B- Brian Roberts, Balt SS- Miguel Tejada, Balt 3B- Alex Rodriguez, NYY OF- Manny Ramirez, Bos OF- Ichiro Suzuki, Sea OF- Vladimir Guerrero, LAA DH- David Ortiz, Bos I was actually tempted to say what the heck and vote Tino, but Tino did not demonstrate this kind of power for years, while Teixeira has been a feared switch-hitting machine. For those wondering about Roberts, Roberts was nearly the best second baseman in the league last year (only Bellhorn was clearly better). Everything else is self-explanatory. But this isn't the "Best of the last 5 years" All star game, last time I checked, it was the 2005 All Star Game. Tino's been dynamite in 2005.

Womack stole 4 bases in a game twice this week. He is pretty much all the Yankees have going for them as far as speed goes, besides maybe Jeter, so he is going to play as much as they can fit him in for.

Athlete you thought was gonna be great...

Griffey was supposed to revitalize Cincy, in his coming home party, and completely and totally fizzled while still having several years ahead of him (How old was he, 30ish?) and as far as I remember there wasn't really any indication he wouldn't continue to dominate.

Question: How is it that Robinson Cano's average is .325, and is on base is actually lower, at .317? Edit: Oh, by the way, Bernie hit a grand slam tonight and the Yankees won 6-3.

With the numbers that come from the overseas online balloting, don't be surprised when both Matsui and Ichiro are roaming the starting outfield for the AL, and that Kaz Matsui probably has a better than even chance at the NL 2B.

A hit is more likely to score a run than a walk is. Of course hits are more valuable than walks, especially when it's a lumbering oaf like Giambi on base. He stands at the plate with absolutely no confidence in himself and just waits and prays for a walk.

Who is the worst poster currently?

    Dama-mama-whatever is pretty annoying.

And you call yourself a baseball guru. Are you on crack? Do you even pay attention to the yankees to make such an idiotic comment like that. Last time I checked bernie could still almost hit while Giambi is a failure among every aspect of the game this season. Bernie Williams H/AB: 27/110 R: 9 HR: 1 RBI: 10 SB:1 AVG:.245 Jason Giambi H/AB: 16/81 R: 11 HR: 3 RBI: 6 SB: 0 AVG:.198 I pulled these off of Yahoo fantasy baseball real quick, hence why I didn't list OBP, BB, and Ks. Still, Bernie is hitting better than Giambi this year.

    What players do you

I thought about this one, I can really only say that I hate Curt Schilling and that's about all.

Most hard luck player on your favorite team

Don Mattingly was on the Yankees from 1982-1995, a year after being in the World Series, and a year before the start of the new era dynasty. He only made the playoffs once in his career, in 1995 and lost to Seattle in the first ever Division Series. Add on top of that his back problems that forced early retirement and a quick decline of his skills pretty much destroyed his chances at the hall.

    SAUSAGEGATE! That was awesome.

    Hell in a cell

I think it was a one-fall finish match, because I remember HHH sneaking in while bodies were everywhere and getting the victory.

    Birthdays

I've been 19 for a little bit more than 6 months. It's not that bad, but I think 18 at this point last year was more fun.

    Sports WTFs

They were playing the same team that found a way to pull this off. That's really weird, I don't remember that game at all. Here's one: I was sitting in the box seats at Yankee Stadium last Labor Day getting ready for some Yanks/D-Rays action on a sunny day, and TB doesn't show up for hours and hours later, and the 1:00 game is played at like 8 that night. Of course, I had to leave the Stadium rather that wait around all day and night because I had to get back to school. That was a major WTF right there.

A good friend of mine's name is Ken Dryden.

Your favorite player that isn't a superstar

I loved John Wetteland back in the day.

    Derek Sanderson Jeter.

Athlete you thought was gonna be great...

I was just about to mention the Mets' "Generation K" trio till I find it here at the end of the page. Along the Mantle lines, I'd add Griffey Jr to the list. He was THE superstar in baseball for the entire decade of the 1990's and ever since coming to Cincy in 2000, has been an injured shell of his former self.

    Sports WTFs

As I sat there watching that game, I said to myself that Cleveland would come back. Not even jokingly either, I just said, "eh, they probably come back" and they did. Probably my best sports prediction ever.
