Cal and Oregon got left out of the BCS picture and had to settle for the Holiday Bowl, the motivation isn't there... its like having a ticket to Disneyland and having to go to one of those Tilt-A-Whirls they set up in Wal-Mart parking lots. Sure, its probably fun, and you should make the most of it, but you coulda been at Disneyland, dammit. Oh, and... If you insist on keeping up the snide remarks, at least have the common decency to keep PMing them to me. Really, I'm enjoying your retarded little exasperated crusade.

Most of the hype leading up to the Oregon/Oklahoma game was about how Oregon will have the opportunity to make an impression on the national stage and draw attention to the Pac-10 that exists outside of USC. Even if Oregon had blown Oklahoma out by 28 I don't think it would have helped that much. The Pac-10's bowl affiliations are dreck. The Pac-10's two best bowl spots are The Rose Bowl and the Holiday Bowl. Theres nothing wrong with The Rose Bowl, but the Holiday Bowl? Pac-10 #2 vs. Big-12 #4? Last year's Oregon team is a good example. They went 10-1, with their only loss being to a supernaturally good USC team, and they ended up playing an Oklahoma team that was off the radar. I'm excited about Cal - ASU this weekend, but as good as the teams are, one of 'em is probably going to end up playing some garbage Big-12 North team in the postseason.

I'm hoping that Marshawn Lynch injures himself AND Rudy Carpenter in some freak running out of bounds mishap. Also, that Forsett comes down with scarlett fever or the black lung or something that'll keep him on the sidelines for the Oregon game. Fuck it, we've been lucky so far.

This is getting fucking ridiculous. I pose this question to you... How can you be proud of a team that couldn't play enough defense to preserve a 13 point lead with under 4 minutes left in the game? Hell, even if Oregon automaticly got the ball back everytime they scored... a championship defense wouldn't be allowing a touchdown every two minutes. The onside kick call was probably wrong, but it certainly isn't as clear as night and day. Paysinger jumped before the ten yards, but to me (and I've watched the replay a million times) its not clear that he touched the ball before ten yards... I'm not saying thats what I think happened, but I can see how someone else could. As for the pass interference call. Boo-fucking-hoo. You don't hear anyone complaining about the no-call on Malcolm Kelly's push-off to make that touchdown catch earlier in the game, and THAT was big push-off. PI calls are fucked up all the time. You wanna know how I can be proud of this victory? Because the Ducks playing 4 turnover football were only down 13 to an Oklahoma team that was playing mistake free football. Then, when most teams (and it appears your Oklahoma team is on that list) would quit, Oregon kept trying. Even through Dixon fumbling a snap they kept trying. They put up 14 points to go up by one, and then, they blocked a fucking field goal. Dennis Dixon, Jaison Williams, Patrick Chung... not one of those guys fucked up the call, an official fucked up the call. The players seized every opportunity they were given, and thats why I'm proud. So Dama, please, shut the fuck up about the game already. Oklahoma is 2-1, and that isn't changing. Every team thats ever played a single game of anything has gotten "dicked hard" on some calls. Just stop.

Adrian Beltre 2004 - .324, 121 RBIs, 48 home runs Enter the $65 million contract Adrian Beltre 2005 - .255, 87 RBIS, 19 home runs Of course, he could also just be a former juicer. I don't know which would make me feel better, doesn't care at all, or cares so much that he uses steroids.
-
I don't care either. Why should I? They don't. More so in the case of basketball players than anything else. If there's a sport in which you DON'T have to leave it all out there in order to succeed and collect the paycheck, that's the one. It's a sport driven on numbers. You get your 15 points and 10 rebounds, and you get paid. Just look at how many players in that sport have great seasons in the contract year, and then go right back to playing like shit. If there's a reason that athletes don't care, it's because of the money. It's too late now, but you lower player salaries and the players would come in and bust their asses in order to get the extra money. When guys like Brian fucking Cardinal get 35 million, there's a problem with the way the system works. I'd say that football has a higher ratio of players that do care, but it doesn't matter. Baseball seems like it would be hard to care about too, 162 games, and half the teams are out of the play-offs before the first pitch is thrown. I'd like to think that the history of the game drives people, and the fact that theres an entire team full of people waiting to take your place in AAA ball, and that players aren't wearing rally caps and chewing styrafoam cups for nothing...

Well, Dixon probably has bigger hands than Alex Smith, but you could be right. I also recognize that Dixon, both through his own personal talents and the offense Oregon runs, will never run for 1000 yards (or probably even 500) but the man is fast, and has the ability to break some big plays on his feet.
-
T.O. cares about football. There isnt even a punch-line there, I've never seen any evidence that pointed to him not caring about football. How quickly do we forget the Super Bowl game that he shined in with a broken leg? The man struggled in High School, went to Tennessee-Chatanooga and cut his NFL teeth playing on special teams. Hes done a lot of nutty stuff off the field, but I would bet the farm that it has more to with the BUSINESS of the NFL than the GAME of football. I have to imagine that in a game as physically punishing as football, you don't even sniff the pros unless you care deeply.

40 time doesn't equal field time, of course, but its not completely irrelevant either. I think comparing Dixon to Young at this point is a stretch of ludicrous proportions. Vince Young has a college resume' that most quarterbacks can only dream of. However, for someone to say that they have nothing in common, as was stated earlier, is fucking dumb and comes across as a little bit of VY hero worship. They're both fast, they're both accurate, and now, they've both beat Oklahoma (and been beat BY Oklahoma.) I doubt Dixon will ever even approach the accomplishments of Young, I don't mean to come across as some big fan of his, but when people shit out their mouths that the only thing they have in common is skin tone, then I have to play the role of Dixon fan... thats not even a role I want to play.
-
I thought we were gonna be talking about Portland State football in here. Boo.
-
I don't think they're very similar. Dixon is a better thrower, and Young is a better runner. Dixon really isn't that fast. Yeah, Dennis Dixon runs the 40 yard dash in a thick country gravyesque 4.4 seconds. He really isn't that fast.

Went to the Oregon/Oklahoma game yesterday and came away with a few observations... 1) Oklahoma fans travel well. They filled their assigned section and then some, there was even a Boomer Sooner chant going on at a couple points during the game. 2) Adrian Peterson is the most boring "Best College Running Back" in recent memory. Maybe its because we've been spoiled with Reggie Bush, and the Auburn boys, etc, but that was a pretty underwhelming 200 yards. I walked away from the game thinking "Wow, Oregon did a pretty good job containing Peterson" only to find out later he had over 200 yards rushing. I know he means a lot to his team, Oklahoma wouldn't be half the team they are without him, and hes probably the Heisman winner, but it seems like he could lose to a more exciting player with slightly worse stats. 3) Oklahoma fans are assholes. This isn't a hard and fast rule at all, really just a gutcheck anecdotal observation. My friends and I were standing up and yelling the whole game and the man behind us had us removed. To be completely fair, we were in the wrong section, but we were right next to the student section (which was full.) You don't go to a fucking football game to have a hotdog and enjoy the weather. There were quite a few other lames, but honestly, the Oklahoma fans were by and large a great group of people and a lot of fun, I just wanted an excuse to kvetch. 4) Autzen is loud. 5) Oregon Uniforms are ill. I honestly don't understand where all the uniform hate is coming from. I've seen them on TV, and now I've seen them in person and I only like them more now. They're doing something original and the players love them Also, whoever said Dixon didn't have anything in common with Vince Young is pretty uninformed. They're both extremely fast quarterbacks with good accuracy who played a controlled role during their Sophomore years. Remember, Dennis Dixon is only a Junior, so far the only game hes lost was the bowl game to Oklahoma. I'm not saying this guy is the second coming of VY, but its stupid to think the comparisons are only because they're both black QBs. As to the whole officiating thing, I'm glad to see Dama taking such an honest approach. Oklahoma had a 13 point lead going into the final 6 minutes or so, they had plenty of opportunities to step up and take the game away, but they didn't. That is not the mark of a good team. Coffee is for closers, and Oklahoma looks like a bunch of tea drinking mothafuckas to me. Dama, heres one thing I do disagree with, of course Oregon fans are gonna be proud. That was a huge comeback in a great game.

Basketball - Portland Trail Blazers I grew up during Rip City with Clyde, Terry Porter, Jerome Kersey, Buck Williams and my favorite, Kevin Duckworth. I continue to be a fan, even with all the current woes, and I'm a stringent believer that Paul Allen wont move us to Seattle. Also, the recent draft was pretty exciting. Baseball - New York Yankees This is my favorite team in all of sports. My dad grew up in New York, so we'd go visit grandma once a year, and everytime we'd go see Yankee games . When I decided they were my favorite team, I was something like 6 years old, so I had no idea of all the history - I just liked Don Mattingly's style. Since then my love for the team has grown more and more each year, especially since some of my friends have become bandwagon Red Sox fans. NFL Football - Miami Dolphins Its kind of tough growing up in a city with no real geographical loyalties. I decided the Buffalo Bills were my favorite team one day when I was walking through an airport with my dad and I decided that I liked their logo that I saw on someones jacket (again, I was like 6.) As I watched more football, I decided I didn't really like the Bills all that much, but I did like one of their division rivals, the Dolphins. I started paying really close attention right around the end of Marino's career and I've been a fan ever since. NCAA Football - Oregon Ducks It helps that I hate Oklahoma so much.

1. The Kingsmen - Louie, Louie 2. Everclear - So Much For the Afterglow 3. The Decemberists - Picaresque 4. Paul Revere & the Raiders - Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian) 5. Quarterflash - Quarterflash 6. Nu Shooz - Poolside 7. Quasi - Featuring "Birds" 8. Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot 9. The Shins - Oh, Inverted World 10. Lifesavas - Spirit in Stone I know theres a bunch of you hatas/suckas/bustas that are gonna have some beef with my list, but please... don't hate, collaborate.
-
To the best of my knowledge they consider Portland home, though I know Olympia figures into their history somehow. I made the Quasi connection because that was Janet Weiss' band (and she's the drummer for Sleater-Kinney). They claim Portland as home... I think they went to Evergreen College in Olympia, WA. Theres a Sleater-Kinney road in Olympia. This is what they're named after. Evergreen is also the alma mater of Matt Groening... another Portland native (he went to the same High School as Elliot Smith. Not at the same time.)
-
Elliot Smith went to Lincoln High School right here in Portland, OR
-
I like 'em all, but Picaresque is my favorite. Also, I don't like the Shins that much either... but there just arent that many bands living in Portland. Art Alexakis - born in Portland, lived in LA for a while, moved back to Portland. When he says hes gonna buy you a big house, way up in the West Hills he means Portland's West Hills. Where they have really big houses.

Cunninlynguists >>>> Rock and Roll I love the CunninLynguists but I thought A Piece of Strange was subpar. I liked the production on Will Rap 4 Food much, much more.

please retire from posting in this thread. I gotta agree on this being sort of a down year. I usually like radio rap, and I give it a listen every once in a while to see if theres anything worth listening to... this year has been fucking awful for radio rap. As far as indie hip hop goes, I've been getting sort of bored with it... jazz infusion can only go so far. I would love to be proven wrong on this, by the way, please reccomend some good hip hop thats come out this year. (Stuff I've already checked out - Mobb Deep, T.I. , E-40, Ghostface) <- this isn't really what I meant by the bad rap... I enjoyed all that stuff, I've just already checked it out. Also, the three tracks I've heard off Idlewild (Morris Brown, Hollywood Divorce, Idlewild Blues) have been kinda lackluster... I didn't dig on them and I love Outkast.

Seriously how can you consider Eazy nothing after Dre and Cube left him? He made tons of money after they left them. Bone Thugs sold more under Eazy, the N.W.A ever did. FACT. I know what you're saying, but you're treading dangerous ground by validating a group by their record sales. After NWA Dre made The Chronic and Cube made AmeriKKKas and Lethal Injection, these are definitely more highly regarded than anything Eazy did after NWA, even if you want to consider Eazy responsible for Bone Thugs' work. However, it isn't really fair to compare Eazy to Dre and Cube because Eazy was dying from AIDS. Anyway, I'll put myself on the list of people who love NWA. Straight Outta Compton is fucking fantastic. While its interesting to note that Cube wrote lyrics for so and so, and Dre made the beats on this song and that song, it really doesn't diminish the album for me. I can listen to that record from start to finish.

I've got a bone to pick with this Outkast logic. I despise when people write off certain hip-hop as being too mainstream. Either its good, or it isn't, and then either its underground or its mainstream. The amount of people listening to a group shouldn't dictate how you feel about it. Anyway, while Andre has definitely lost his taste for hop-hop, Big Boi certainly hasn't. Speakerboxxx has some great hip-hop on it. Don't throw Big Boi out with Andre's weird ass bath water.

Theres something missing in your delivery... I don't know if its the microphone you're using or what, but the vocals lack punch and confidence. I guess just keep working on your style until you find something that you're ultimately happy with.

Covers you liked better than the original?
Jorge Gorgeous replied to Mr. S£im Citrus's topic in Music
Depeche Mode's version of Personal Jesus is so much better than Manson's or Cash's. It's such a great song for driving around. Shit, you can't beat the breathing solo! This entire post is pure, unfiltered fact. Although the acoustic guitar in the Cash version is pretty rad, but it sort of gets repetetive at the end of the song. -
Spring college football practices are starting...

Oklahoma seems to have had success with quarterbacks who have weird "H" last names. I think they need to recruit Scandanavia better. Get some Hjenriks or Hjufgufstahffels on the team. Dama, you should suggest this to the higher-ups. -
