Regular LSU student declares for NBA draft
Jorge Gorgeous replied to Spaceman Spiff's topic in Sports
Based on the tone of the article I read about Shavlik, it sounded like he was more into getting some experience in the whole shebang rather than actually getting picked up. I mean, put as much stock into that as you feel appropriate, but he didn't hire an agent. -
If you let A-Rod run he can take some bases

Sometimes theres things you just don't understand. 1925 New York Yankees - WTF A roster with Ruth, Gehrig, Earle Combs, Bob Meusel and Wally Pipp amongst others - with Urban Shocker and Herb Pennock in the bullpen and they only won 69 games. Its like this island of ugly within a sea of AL Championships. Go ahead and post your own WTF, or try and help someone understand their own WTF.

I swear this dream is true... Theres this column/mesa type thing in hell, it looks like the hell in the Spawn movie. And theres this huge demon up there with this woman, and the woman's head falls back and in white fancy text it said "Merryl Streep in her greatest role ever" and then the demon fucks Merryl Streep to death with his gigantic, sword covered dick. Weirdest dream of my life. Also, anytime I dream about fist fighting, I feel like I can't punch people. I think its because I try and actually throw punches in my sleep.

I can see the second two go down, but the Henderson one seems like its damn near untouchable. Though, like AK said, you never know what baseball will look like in the FUTURE!!!

I don't think so. Koufax had a four year run where he was a fantastic pitcher. Now, if you set your standards specifically as a pitcher's four best consecutive years, the answer might be Koufax. But that is the only way he ranks as the very best. Koufax's best ERA+ (ERA, adjusted for park and the league average) was 190. That is very, very good. But what about Walter Johnson, who went 69-19 over two years with ERA+'s of 240 and 259? (As an aside, here is another misconception. The Senators had some very good years with Johnson, even if they fell short of the pennant until 1924.) Pedro Martinez had a four year run where he produced ERA+'s of 221, 160, 245 and 285, although Koufax pitched many more innings. There are just two many pitchers with similar peak quality who smoke Koufax in career numbers. Not to say Koufax was not a great pitcher, but he is not the best. He was legitimately outstanding during his peak. If Koufax was pitching today and had access to some of the surgical technology they have today, Koufax would have put up much better career numbers. Sort of a "What if" but still worth mentioning.

NY Yankees Losing Seasons Broken Up By Era 1992 76-86 1991 71-91 1990 67-95 1989 74-87 1982 79-83 1973 80-82 1969 80-81 1967 72-90 1966 70-89 1965 77-85 1925 69-85 1918 60-63 1917 71-82 1915 69-83 1914 70-84 1913 57-94 1909 74-77 1908 51-103 (Worst Yankees Season Ever) 1907 70-78 1905 71-78 1902 50-88 21 losing seasons over the last 103 years. Not bad at all. The 1980s were bad for the Yanks. It was the first decade they didn't grab a WS in since they started winning 'em back in the 20s. Its also the meat of the longest Yankee AL Championship drought. 1982-1996. Or as I like to call them, The Mattingly years. Poor Don

My dad being from New York, I grew up playing stickball every now and then. Last year I ordered a stickball bat and some Penzi Pinkies from Staten Island and busted them out with some friends. It was a helluva lot of fun.

Dama will be able to get into the details better than I can, but yeah - they had a few bad seasons in the early 90's... I think after The Boz and before Stoops.

Noone will ever break Johnny Vander Meer's two straight no-hitter record. I'm not even sure if someone is gonna tie it, but noone will throw three straight no-hitters. Also, Cal Ripken Jr.'s iron man streak - I don't see that one falling

I was a caller to a Fairfield University radio sports-talk show in 1999 and the host asked me, "Ryan greatest RH of alltime?" and my answer was "Ummmm, no. Probably not even top 20" and I proceeded to run off a list of great RH in the Hall like Seaver, Johnson, Gibson, Pete Alexander, Mathewson, even threw Jim Palmer in the mix That shut the guy up Steve Not even top 20? I don't know about that.

That New York division is GOOD. Not one team under .500

For reals... Miami was in the playoffs last year, how do you figure they don't make the play-offs this year with the same team?
