NCAA BBall Tournament, 1st and 2nd Rounds

You know, I should be sad because a Big East school got eliminated. *Thinks of the shit call against Georgetown in February and their 17 3-pointer game a week and a half ago* Nah, fuck em.

NCAA BBall Tournament, 1st and 2nd Rounds

I don't even care if we get killed by Kansas. The fact that this was a down year with no seniors on the rosters, Nova got into the tournament and made the Sweet 16 is HUGE to set up next year.

NCAA BBall Tournament, 1st and 2nd Rounds

Yeah, they won their Super Bowl during our slump when we beat no one. Congratulations. Maybe Martelli and his manlove Joe Lunardi can cry together with the rest of the Nova-hating Philly media today.

Um........fuck yeah. FUCK. YEAH. The fact that Saint Joe's lost tonight made it even better. I was at the main Nova bar and it was amazing.

    College Hoops: 3/1/08 - 3/16/08

Haven't been in here for a while, but I did not think we were making it when Georgia won. Was happy to see Temple win last night given my dislike of St. Joe's. Good to see 3 Philly teams in the tournament, but we're all probably out in the first round, though I could possible see Temple upsetting MSU.

    NFC Championship: Packers vs. Giants

The happiest man in New York right now isn't Eli, Strahan, Plaxico, Tynes, or even Coughlin. No the happiest man in New York right now is Isiah. There will be no attention on him at all for the next 2 weeks.

    Classic college football highlights

Since we have an NFL YouTube thread, I figured we could have a college football one too: 1992: Final two Notre Dame plays in "Snow Bowl" vs. Penn State

DIRECTV and Maryland is playing Villanova..that could be a good college BASKETBALL game..but Football? Yeah, the Terps will kill us tomorrow. Christ we need to move up to I-A. At least we're not like St. Joe's, who "adopted" BC football for the year.

    Michael Vick's "Dog Fight" Investigation

Ha! The Eagles get credit I guess for beating him and knocking him out of his last NFL game. I guess the easy money will be betting against Atlanta in nearly every game this year.

    Offseason College Football Thread

Gailey should be fired if he has another 5 loss season this year. With the talent that GT has with their running game and defense, there's no reason why they shouldn't be a favorite for the ACC title considering how down the conference has been. Vegas has GT getting 3 points at Notre Dame in Week 1, definite GT outright win there.

Eagles have a better offense, Dallas' offensive line is a sieve, Leonard Davis was mediocre in Arizona, he won't do any better in Dallas. Dallas' defense is better, Eagles front seven has some question marks (DEs staying healthy, Gocong, Trotter on his last legs) Eagles have a huge advantage in coaching. I don't like the fact that Jones put together the staff before hiring Phillips, and Garrett is very inexperienced. What's going to happen when Owens has his usual tantrum about passes going to him?

    This Week in Baseball 7/23 - 7/29

And Utley now has a broken hand thanks to him. Sucks that the Phils are pretty much screwed now thanks to some no-name prospect on a shit team.

    This Week in Baseball 7/23 - 7/29

Jimmy Rollins tied up the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with a flyball that the Nats couldnt catch, and he rounded the bases and scored. Good stuff, but unfortunately Mesa is in now.

If the Eagles use the running game,McNabb stays healthy, and the defense avoids injuries, the Eagles will take the division. I don't understand the gigantic love affair with Dallas since Romo is still a question mark, the WRs are a year older (and you KNOW Attention Whore will cause a problem this year), the offensive line is not too good, and they'll probably lose 2-3 games that they shouldn't due to coaching (Phillips is NOT a good head coach, and they're putting a lot on the shoulders of a rookie playcaller in Garrett.) If the Saints defense is a bit better this year, I think they're the NFC favorite.

    What If...?

The Eagles what if I have is "What if Randall didn't break his leg. It was the Eagles strongest team by far and when he went down, so did their chances." Good question. The 1991 defense was probably one of the best in history, and they couldn't make the playoffs because they were pretty much down to starting guys off the street at QB once Jim McMahon got hurt. I'd say if Randall didn't get hurt, they likely finish 12-4 instead of 10-6, and possibly get to the NFC Championship game. I have another one. What if the fog never came in the Eagles 1988 playoff game against the Bears? The Eagles passing game couldn't be as effective because of it, and they only lost 20-12.

    What If...?

Phillies: What if Fregosi had not gone with an obviously overworked Mitch Williams in the bottom of the 9th of Game 6 against Toronto? Do the Phils force a Game 7? (Al can probably answer that one) What if Billy Wagner never gives up the home run to Craig Biggio in bottom of the 9th in that September 2005 game and the Phils make the playoffs instead of the Astros? Eagles: What if the Eagles take Chad Johnson or Steve Smith in the 2001 draft, who were on the board at the time they picked, instead of Freddie Mitchell? What if Andy Reid had put Michael Lewis in at strong safety rather than Blaine Bishop (who was hiding an injury at the time) on that 3rd and long against Tampa (the Jurevicius play) in the 2002 NFC title game? My guess is the younger, faster Lewis probably stops Jurevicius short of the 1st, the Eagles force Tampa to punt deep in their own territory, the Vet crowd gets louder with the 7-3 lead, and the Eagles probably have a much better shot at winning that game (The Jurevicius play KILLED the crowd in that game) Flyers: What if the Flyers never trade for Eric Lindros? The talent they gave up was amazing. Forsberg, Ricci, Hextall, 2 first round picks... What if Lindros had never come back to play against the Devils in 2000? Once the rumors about him returning started before Game 5, the Flyers blew the 3-1 lead. Sixers: What if Billy King and Tony DiLeo, who wanted Dirk Nowitzki or Paul Pierce with the Sixers pick in the 1998 draft, get their way over Larry Brown, who wanted Larry Hughes? Do the Sixers win a title with Iverson/Nowitzki or Iverson/Pierce? Villanova: What if Curtis Sumpter never tears his ACL against Florida in the second round of the 2005 NCAAs? They probably beat North Carolina instead of losing by 1 on a bad call, and are probably in the Final Four, most likely have a better shot at beating Florida in 2006 and winning the national title. Penn State: What if Paterno actually ran up the score against lesser teams in 1994 instead of pulling starters at halftime? Does PSU get more votes over Nebraska? What if the 2 seconds were never put back on the clock against Michigan in 2005? Is it PSU playing USC in the Rose Bowl instead of Texas?

    NCAA Hoops Offseason Thread

I'm actually very excited about Nova's 2 incoming recruits for next year, Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes. Fisher has been tearing up the postseason HS all-star games, and is probably the consensus best NY high school recruit this year (Dick "Hoops" Weiss, longtime basketball reporter, has said that Fisher may be the best PG recruit to come out of the NY-NJ area since Bobby Hurley in 1989.) Stokes is a McDonald's All-American who Wright beat Calhoun and UConn for, tremendous shooting range with an NBA body, should be a second scoring option behind Reynolds. Next year will be a little tougher since there's no seniors, but if Nova can make the NCAAs, 2008-2009 should be a great year. 2008 recruiting only has one scholarship open, but it's being offered to either Tyreke Evans (local product, Nova likely has to beat out Pitino and U of L, and maybe UNC for him) or Ed Davis (big man from Virginia, just got into the running for him.) Many people around here want Evans because Nova lost out on Ellington and Henderson, both local products, two years ago to UNC and Duke, but I'd prefer Davis because Nova really needs another big man. A starting 5 of Fisher, Reynolds, Stokes, Cunningham, and Davis in 2008-2009 has the ability to be downright nasty. Oh yeah, UK got Patrick Patterson yesterday. They pulled out 2 nice late recruits with him and Alex Legion, who got out of his Michigan verbal because Tommy Amaker got fired .
