Bobby Cremins did the same thing in 1993, he accepted the job at his alma mater South Carolina, then went back to Georgia Tech 2 days later. Though here Altman spurned the more prestigous program to go back to a mid-major, whereas Cremins was torn between two major programs.
-
Dana Altman decided to go back to Creighton, so now the Arkansas job is open again.
-
Aren't Izzo and Tubby friends too? I doubt Izzo would want to swoop into a job that his friend got forced out of. I think John Pelphrey might be a darkhorse, South Alabama coach, one of UK's own.

Michigan hired John Beilein. Good hire, it'll be interesting to see what he can do with better recruits at Michigan instead of finding diamonds in the rough, i.e. Pittsnoggle and Gansey. Apparently from what I'm seeing, Billy Donovan is probably going to stay at Florida. My guess is Kentucky will end up with Billy Gillespie.
-
I'm not exactly sure why Roy got in so early. Sure he has the 2005 title, but that was an uber-talented team recruited by Matt Doherty. I know he has some Final Four trips as well, but most of those trips have ended in chokejobs.

Gah, the Phils bullpen is still drizzling shits. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of batting Howard 3rd and Utley 4th.

NCAA Basketball Tournament Sweet 16/Elite 8 Thread

Tony said today on PTI that a UCLA-OSU title game could set basketball back about 30 years. I'm kinda tending to agree. -
There's rumors that apparently Gillespie is going to be the next coach at Arkansas, and that Stan Heath is being fired. Basically from what I've heard, the candidates for the Kentucky job are Billy Donovan, John Calipari, Tom Crean, Mark Few, Tom Izzo and Jay Wright. Donovan is probably the top choice, though Florida can easily pay him whatever Kentucky will offer. Izzo and Wright are likely not going due to being happy in their current situations (Izzo is a Michigan native, Wright a longtime Nova fan from the Delaware Valley area, though if Kentucky offers Wright $2 to $3 million a year there's no way Nova can match that). I could very much see Calipari or Few taking the job, unless Few really wants the Arizona job when Lute Olson retires. I also wonder who will end up taking the Michigan job. I've heard UM's first choice is Crean, but apparently the only job Crean would leave Marquette for would be Michigan State once Izzo retires.

NCAA Basketball Tournament Sweet 16/Elite 8 Thread

Dick Vitale is crying because his beloved ACC has no Final Four teams again. Take you split and shove it Boeheim, long live the Big East non-football schools. -
Games Philly market will probably get, Nova and Penn games will get aired since they're local teams. Louisville vs. Stanford Texas A&M vs. Penn Duke vs. VCU Pitt vs. Wright State Virginia vs. Albany Notre Dame vs. Winthrop Kansas vs. Niagra/FAMU Villanova vs. Kentucky
-
Being on the UK Rivals board is funny, it seems like they're more up in arms about U of L having 2 games in Rupp than anything else. I can't imagine what the reaction Pitino will get in Rupp next weekend. Cabbageboy, I'm suprised you didn't comment on that possible UCLA-Pitt anti-classic that could happen. Howland/Dixon, who can put the TV audiences to sleep faster? I kinda like Nevada as a sleeper in the South bracket, I think they can beat Memphis and likely give Louisville/A&M a run for their money.
-
I'm in.
-
Is it just me or has Octavian become the ultra dick heel this season?
-
Oh lord, commence Boeheim whine-a-thon. Whines about Nova getting in over them with their 10-6 vs. our 9-7, Nova also didn't get to play South Florida once and St. John's twice like they did. They played UConn, us and St. John's twice this year, we played them, Georgetown and Notre Dame twice. Says they played the 4th toughest Big East schedule when we played the toughest.
-
I'm going to say Florida, UCLA, Georgetown and Ohio State for the Final Four. Hey cabbageboy, there's a possible UCLA/Pitt Sweet 16 matchup. I bet the two teams combined won't break 100. Christ, between Nova likely playing Friday night and St. Patrick's day on Saturday, those two days are going to be a complete drunken shitshow for me.
-
I'm torn on Cuse, while they did have a decent resume, maybe they should finally think about leaving the state of New York for their non-conference schedule. I bet Gottlieb is loving that Boeheim got left out.
-
How the FUCK did Arkansas get in over Syracuse and Drexel?
-
I think Nova can beat UK, but we're going to need a patented Kansas choke in round 2. I would LOVE to pay Pitt back in the Elite Eight.
-
Oh fuck, I didn't want Kansas in round 2.
-
ND is FUCKED. I really like Winthrop there. If Florida beats Maryland, they'll get to the Final Four.
-
Fuck it doesn't look good for Drexel now. On a happier note, Mo Cheeks is returning next year, so the Jay Wright to the Sixers rumors can finally be put to rest.
-
Coachman is doing the PBP for the Atlantic 10 tourney, at least for the Philadelphia feed of it.
-
Gah Nova almost came back, being down 25 and coming back to only lose by 5 has to count for something. Hope we can get a 7 seed.
-
I'm hoping Drexel gets in to give the city three NCAA teams this year (Nova, Penn and Drexel), but I understand if ODU gets in over them. BTW, teke I believe we're playing you in Philly next year for the new Big East-SEC challenge. Supposed to be a doubleheader of Seton Hall-Ole Miss followed by Villanova-LSU in December.
-
I'm happy with how this season went for Nova. 21-9 and 9-7 in conference play with the toughest Big East schedule (G'Town, Cuse, and ND twice, no games against South Florida or St. John's), probably an 8 seed right now, but depending on how things go in New York they could be a 7 seed if they beat DePaul and possibly a 6 seed if they upset G'Town (I'd love another shot at them, we almost got a sweep this year.) I'm actually thinking about splurging on some BE Tourney tickets since I'm on break this week.
