    2005-2006 MLB Offseason thread

One of the guys on Comcast had a minor conspiracy theory today. Basically, to promote Ruben Amaro Jr. would be a PR problem since he'd be viewed as being from the same vein as Ed Wade. So, they hired a guy who is 68 years old. Give him 3 years or so, and if they don't get to the playoffs, either he's too old and retires or they use that as their excuse to promote Amaro. Does this sound plausible or is it just stupid? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd rather have Amaro be trained by Gillick than by going with what Ed Wade taught him. The bad: Gillick tends to destroy farm systems when building winners The good: Phils don't have much of a farm system for Gillick to wreck Even if Amaro becomes the GM in about 4-5 years, hopefully he learns enough from Gillick so that he can grow into the role instead of being the next Wade.

    NFL Week 8

Unfortunately Mike, I think the Eagles are done for the year. That McNabb injury has killed them. I personally see them as a 8-8 team this year.

    NFL Week 8

Well I ended up winning $40 this week. I was going to put something on tonight's game, but I decided otherwise. Next week I love Pittsburgh in Green Bay and the Giants in San Francisco.

    NFL Week 8

They ought to just tank this year and get themselves an all-purpose back. Anyway, I was extremely happy to hit my second parlay thanks to the Bears in overtime today...

A look ahead towards college basketball...

I can't believe how positive the local media is about this team. Roy Williams is a great coach, but even he can't lose his entire team and still compete. UNC fans are likely to be brought back down to earth this year, no matter how good their recruits are. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd say UNC will have a bit of a down year, but they'll be better by the end of the year. Watch out in 2006-2007 when all the kids get experience. I know Duke has most of their guys back, but I want to see J.J. Reddick actually shoot well in a big game, despite all of Dookie V's ass-kissing that would suggest otherwise. Michigan State absolutely punked him out last year in the Sweet 16.
