This Week in College Football 10/13 - 10/15
therealworldschampion replied to Bored's topic in Sports
Another strange stat to consider this weekend. On October 15th, 1988, Notre Dame played the defending champion and #1 team in the country, Miami, in South Bend, a team that had won the last 3 meetings by a total of 93 points. On October 15th, 2005, Notre Dame will play the defending champion and #1 team in the country, USC, in South Bend, a team that has won the last 3 meetings by a total of 93 points. Is that fucking strange or what? -

Yeah it would really suck for Mack Brown if he goes undefeated, finally winning against Oklahoma and gets shut out of the Rose Bowl. -
Just took the LSAT...

Well, 12 more days until I get my results. I really would like to get them so I can start sending out my applications. Everything else is done... -
I hope I did well because I have no desire to sit in a cramped auditorium taking that fucking test again. I think I did well though...

Ed Wade = YOOOOOOUUUUUURRRRRREEEEE FIRED!!!!

From what I've been seeing in the papers, it looks like Hunsicker is probably the #1 candidate for the GM job, which I have no problem with. -
Is that Lou Pinella in the booth with Buck and McCarver? EDIT: Nevermind it is. Sounds way better than McCarver...

2006 is Bell's last year of his contract, so they can possibly bring someone in to platoon with him. I think Manuel's future depends on if the new GM is promoted from within or is brought in from outside the organization. If it's Amaro or Arbuckle, expect Cholly to be there for 2006. If it's Hunsicker, Cashman, or Jim Duquette, I could see them having a new manager next year. -

I'm personally hoping for Gerry Hunsicker. Philadelphia native with friends in the organization, was the architect of the Astros, and really left because he was sick of dealing with Drayton McClain. Yeah, those Astros won a TON of postseason games. He's definitely the guy for the job. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> His teams actually got to the playoffs, which is way more than I can say for Ed Wade. -
I think this calls for the lifting on Anglesault's ban for one day only, OK maybe one hour only...
-
This calls for the cpac post to be brought out again...
-
I guess Cashman and Torre could both be heading 90 miles south to Philadelphia now...

I feel that a Cardinals-White Sox World Series would be hilarious...

Yankees lose.

We need to start a campaign to the WWE for the return of Vince to the announcing booth. -

Funny little twist, instead of the Eagles' loss yesterday, DNL leads in with the Phillies. Who says that Philadelphia isn't a baseball town? -

Montgomery said in the press conference that he was not being retained in any role, I believe. I mean what could he do? Get the coffee and newspaper in the morning? Or maybe they'll do a fundraiser. Kick Ed Wade in the nuts for $5, I'd be they'd make at least $20,000 a game doing that. I wonder what Ed's next job will be. Perhaps him and Richie Kotite can get together and form something. -
Yeah this year. But not in the past. People act like it was the worst in the past. Not true. It's always been one of the best it's just hit a downslide the past few years. Should regain it's form soon. Oh and I still think it's funny that if you historically remove USC from the Pac 10 in football it becomes a mid-major. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wrong. UCLA, Stanford and Washington are also great traditional programs that the Pac-10 has as well.

Haha it's hilarious watching Wade be anti-media and anti-fan in his comments to the reporters. "Keeping his options open"? Wal-Mart or McDonalds? "Get Billy Wagner re-signed" ?? Uh asshole, IT'S NOT YOUR JOB ANYMORE. "I earned these 8 years". HAHAHAHA!!!! What a delusional waste. -

Oh great, Montgomery has no idea of who he wants to replace Wade. Please do not give Dallas Green the job... -

You should do a breakdown of all the candidates with their strengths and weaknesses and what the likeliness of them getting hired is. Also in the press conference, Montgomery said that the new GM will decide on Manuel's future. -

Eskin reported today that supposedly the Phillies got 7,000 to 10,000 letters from season-ticket holders threatening to not renew their season ticket packages if Wade was retained. If that is true, I can't say I'm mad at them for doing that.... Apparently the word is the two top candidates for the job will be Gerry Hunsicker and Brian Cashman. -
The conference has just been in a downswing the past 2 years. Outside of Texas and Texas Tech, there's not really any good teams. Sure Colorado is ranked, but they get to feast on that shitty North division. Oklahoma is having a down year, Oklahoma State got worse, A&M is not very good, and Baylor is Baylor. Texas should get a ton of credit for scheduling that home-and-home with OSU, and it's good to see OU doing it too (future games with Miami, Florida State, and Notre Dame).

I was talking about Mark Mangino. I think Tennessee was just screwed with their schedule. Road games at Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, and South Bend, notoriously tough places to play. Georgia is a great team on the road, Mark Richt is now 17-2(?) in opposing stadiums. That's a fucking Murderer's Row of a schedule. Give them a Big XII schedule and they're undefeated. On a side note, I hope Notre Dame and Tennessee do another home-and-home series in the future, that's a good matchup. Texas is going to be left out if undefeated teams meet in the SEC or ACC title games. The Ohio State loss last night really hurt them. Seeing Lou Holtz rip Mark May on the ESPN studio show is good for a laugh. As a little history blurb, this coming Saturday is the 17th anniversary of Notre Dame's upset of #1 Miami in South Bend: October 15th.
