Athlete you thought was gonna be great...

Yes but Vick and McNabb also had great arm strength as well, whereas Jackson and Rice were primarily athletes without the arm needed for the NFL.

Athlete you thought was gonna be great...

If any ND quarterback didn't live up to the hype, it was Rick Mirer.

Herschel Walker He was a decent NFL player, but he had a ton of hype coming out of Georgia and with the Dallas/Minnesota trade...

    Sports Misconceptions

Miami was pretty much like Rutgers until Schnellenberger showed up in 1979-1980 and started building up for the 1983 national title. Their true "down period" in the 1990s was pretty much 1997, where they missed a bowl game for the first time in years and got blown out 47-0 by Florida State, but Butch Davis was able to recruit the nucleus of the 2000-2002 teams during that period(Dorsey, Shockey, Portis, McKinnie, etc.) Notre Dame has had more down periods than people would like to believe, including the period between Frank Leahy and Ara Parseighan, the Gerry Faust years, and the Davie/Willingham era. I'd say Michigan is a school that never seems to have a true down period. They may not win the Big Ten every year, but the last bad season they had was 1984 when they went .500, and then bounced back the next year anyway.

    Kentucky Derby

Giacomo was a 50-1 underdog in this race paying out $102.60 for a win. That exacta bet would've payed out near $10K...

    Sports Misconceptions

Not since 1983, and the current drought is the longest at 22 years (longest out of all cities with 4 pro sports teams...)

I'd laugh if Belichick picks him up and uses him as a tackling dummy..

    This Week in Baseball

All I will say is that the Yanks better hope that George's horse wins the Derby tomorrow, or else there is probably going to be a statement issued...

    The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread

Either they're going to trade Freddie for something, or wait until other teams have filled out their WR depth to release him and really stick it to him for being a pain in the ass...

    Your worst ever sporting moment

The 1993 Series used to hurt, but we've paid Toronto back by eliminating the Raptors in 2001 and knocking the Leafs out of the playoffs the last 2 years. The NFC title game against Tampa became a horror movie. First the TD in the opening series, which made us all happy. Then comes the Jurevicius catch, then the Keyshawn TD, and finally the Barber INT. The Super Bowl this year comes nowhere near that game... I don't usually get angry about the 2004 NFC title game because it finally proved to Reid that James Thrash is useless and Todd Pinkston is a pussy, and led to the TO acquisition...

Eagles are on the clock for tomorrow, I'd really like to see them grab Michael Munoz from Tennessee.

    Community College

Or just leech off your friends who go to actual schools like I did... Actually, since community college and college are pretty much the same the first two years, its not a bad idea at all if you want to save some money. I went to community college for 2 years before transferring to a 4-year school and will only be about $10K in debt when I graduate next May. Of course, I'm hoping to go to law school in 2006 too so I'll be more in debt after that...

The OaO NFL Draft 2005 Thread

Good to see Frank Gore get drafted, I've seen his story (knee injuries, going pro to pay his mom's medical bills) and its good to see someone who went through all of that suceed and be drafted.
