I remember watching that show while I was at the office, and I really enjoyed it. Until the ending, that just killed it for me. The Vince walks by everybody part I liked, but once the Limo exploded I suddenly felt like I had wasted three hours of my life. Was that the last thing you got in the arena, or did they do a dark match or something to send the crowd home not scratching their heads? That was the last thing we saw.

Picking a right fielder for Team USA is an absolute bitch. Markakis, Ludwick, Bradley, Hamilton, Werth, Pence. Lots of guys on the same level.
-
Ah. See how much I remember out of this? If it weren't for Graham Cawthon, all I'd remember is Goldust, Shamrock/Christian and the Rock/Austin confrontation.
-
Yeah. It didn't seem particularly relevant to the live experience though. Honestly, the only real exposure I got as an 11 year old fan was two months later when the Apter mags covered it.

Bailing out newspapers? What good purpose does that serve? The entire industry is sliding.

Considering Rollie Fingers swept the awards, I'd agree with that sentiment.

I always counted the division series winners as division champions. That's pretty standard in leagues that utilize the split season format every year, typically in A ball. If it helps, it gives Montreal another division title, and Oakland retains their's.
Besides, if I had to explain how the Cardinals and Reds won division titles and neither made the playoffs, my head would explode.
-
The Brewers have one division title, the other was a wild card berth.
It's a shame that the Expos' run from 1979-81 has been forgotten. They won the division title in 1981, and lost the pennant races on the final weekend in both 1979 and '80. They had Gary Carter and Andre Dawson in their lineup, Steve Rogers as their ace. A couple breaks and they might (might) have been a dynasty.

But he was the 1990s hit leader!

Jason Whitlock?

The operative word being immediately available for comment. And the story was posted at 2:36am. I can imagine calling, getting the answering machine, and "PRINT!" It's a tremendous journalistic device.

Orosco and Plesac obviously are not Hall of Famers, but they both had remarkable careers. Orosco of course pitched forever. In that classic 1986 NLCS, he took the win in three of the final four games. Plesac was top ten all time in strikeouts per nine. It almost makes you wish the Hall of Very Good had a sub-section for middle relievers and set up men.
Here's a fun Jesse Orosco game.

The only guy I might bump him above is Savery, but depending on my mood I might put Knapp over him so it is pretty even. Knapp is the guy I am really interested in seeing how he progresses this coming season.Savery had decent peripherals, including just 10 home runs in 150 innings. I think he deserves another season before throwing in the towel. Knapp is quite an interesting prospect. The problem with developing a list like this from my perspective is that I hardly have an opportunity to scout guys like Knapp, Vance Worley, and the other recent draftees. I need to go off of scouting reports.
That group could shift around quite a bit.
Anthony Hewitt makes me a sad panda, but I don't see anyone you can make an argument to put him over without going on pure projection. It's all projection. Based on results, he wouldn't rate. But there's a small possibility he turns in to a good player, and that rates at least some ranking. Around #30 is often where you find a Rule V draftee anyway.
Not on board the Marson bandwagon? He had five home runs last season in Reading. I can't see holding down a job quite yet without more power. I think he becomes an MLB starter, I just like the top six better.

"Isn't that cheating?"
God bless her. That's fantastic.

I don't care about ERA for relievers because of the specialization of their use. Wood had a big edge on Lidge in WHIP and K/BB Ratio. I can see putting Lidge as a high as 5th but definitely not above Soria.Rivera, Soria and Nathan are the three I'd rank above Lidge. It is probably not entirely fair to qualify relievers by baserunner prevention, but not by run prevention. Both metrics you used penalize Lidge because he walks many hitters. A couple of salient points.
1. Batters hit 23 extra base hits against Kerry Wood compared to just 13 against Brad Lidge. Batters have far more difficulty hitting Lidge with any kind of authority. If you want to use a metric outside ERA, look at opponents' OPS. Lidge's hitters hit .565, compared to .632 for Lidge.
2. Lidge did not blow a save all season.
3. To emphasize the second point, Lidge led all relievers this season in Win Probability added. That metric sees him nearly a full win more valuable than any other relief pitcher this season.
-
How did Brad Lidge fall to seventh? His ERA is a full run lower than Kerry Wood's. I can't see him lower than fourth.

God damn it that rendition was a piece of shit. I despise when anyone tries to turn it into their version of American Idol and tries to hit the high note at the end. To hear 2 1/2 minutes of that? Ugh.
-
For an outsider, 2002 was interesting. The Angels had never won and had blown several chances to reach the World Series in agonizing fashion (namely 1986 and 1995). The Giants have yet to win a World Series since moving to the Bay.
I don't think I need to tell you that this is the most eagerly anticipated World Series in my lifetime.

I miss the Astrodome. That place had a lot going for it, the most being the on-field dynamic was magnificent.

Hardball Times gives David Ortiz 31 win shares in 2005. He played 148 games at DH. An oversight?

I'm saving the snides remarks about Jim Rice this time.
If Barry Bonds isn't elected to the Hall of Fame upon eligibility, it will cease to become a useful institution. At that point, ability no longer becomes a factor of election and it is just a matter of who got caught using PEDs and who didn't.
-
Clark was intentionally walked twice as often as Jim Rice, but you already knew that.
Clark gets little support because he was a first baseman who hit 284 home runs. In a better era his statistics look better, but as it is he's not deserving anyway.

Five RBI day for Bill Dickey, including the game winning single in the tenth inning. Another fantastic game.

Surprise mostly. Not a real memorable one, though I remember thinking it was stupid at the time. Still do.
