Yankees 1

Giants 3
Yankees 4
WP: Turley, LP: Shocker
The Giants carried a 3-0 lead into the ninth. The club stuck with Urban Shocker too long, and the Yankees scored four without recording an out. Joe Dimaggio tied the game with a two-run double, and Dave Winfield collected the game winning single.
Giants 8
Yankees 2
WP: Gomez, LP: Hunter
Don Mattingly gave the Yankees an early lead with a two-run home run in the first. The Giants scored three in the second and two in the fifth, the latter coming on Mickey Mantle's two-run home run.
The Giants win the series 3-1. It's Giants vs. Dodgers in the finals.

What bunch a bullshit! I had Mr. October and Mr. November! Your computer simulation can't measure heart and desire! Why don't you move out your parent's basement already you saberdork! My computer says it's August. Should've drafted Dave Winfield.

Yankees 5
Highlanders 2
WP: Raschi, LP: Lopat, Sv: Rivera
Don Mattingly hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and the Yankees added three more in the third.

The big issue might be the steroid whispers, but I think so many players were involved that it will eventually become a dead issue. He at least has huge RBI numbers to hang his hat on.
-
Umbright died as an active player with the club, so certainly it was a legitmate thing to honor his memory. Don Wilson is pretty shaky. The rest I have no issue with. Jose Cruz was the f'n man for the Astros in the 1980s. Dierker was both a good pitcher and manager for the club. Bagwell and Biggio will go to the Hall soon enough (they better).

Dodgers 6
Giants 1
WP: Key, LP: Reynolds
Bill Dickey hit two doubles and drove in two runs.
The Dodgers finish first in the pool and receive a playoff bye. The Giants finish second and will have home field advantage in the first round.
Next up, Highlanders vs. Yankees for the final playoff berth.

Highlanders 3
Dodgers 6
WP: Pettitte, LP: Ruffing, Sv: Gossage
Babe Ruth's two run home run in the seventh made the difference.
-
Yankees 2
Giants 3
WP: Gomez, LP: Hunter, Sv: Murphy
Gil McDougald's triple drove in the tying runs in the fifth, and Charlie Keller hit a home run in the eighth to plate the go-ahead run.
-
Yankees 7
Bridegrooms 5
WP: Peterson, LP: Chamberlain, Sv: Rivera
Home runs by Joe Dimaggio and Dave Winfield led the way for the Yankees. Mariano Rivera pitched a six out save, retiring all six batters he faced.
Giants 9
Dodgers 2
WP: Shocker, LP: Wang
A close game until the eighth when the Giants scored six runs. All six were unearned thanks to costly errors by Lindy McDaniel and Babe Ruth.
Highlanders 12
Gothams 2
WP: Davis, LP: Chesbro
This game was actually tied in the eighth. The Highlanders plated a pair of runs and loaded the bases. Alfonso Soriano put the game away with a grand slam off reliever Bob Wickman.
-
That leaves us with three games left. Yankees (5-4) at Bridegrooms (4-5). Giants (5-4) at Dodgers (6-3). Highlanders (5-4) at Gothams (2-7). The Dodgers can clinch the top spot with a victory. The Bridegrooms can force their way into a playoff game with a win and either a Giants or Highlanders loss.

Bridegrooms (Stottlemyre) @ Yankees (Downing)
Dodgers (Shawkey) @ Giants (Mays)
Gothams (Hoyt) @ Highlanders (Wells)

Dodgers 4
Giants 10
WP: Mays, LP: Shawkey
A bases clearing triple by Joe Gordon in the third put the Giants ahead for good.
Gothams 2

Here's where we stand after eight games.
Dodgers 6-2
Highlanders 4-4
Bridegrooms 4-4
Yankees 4-4
Giants 4-4
Gothams 2-6
The next three series are Gothams vs. Highlanders, Dodgers against Giants and Bridegrooms vs. Yankees. No team has clinched a playoff berth, or been mathematically eliminated. If the Gothams sweep, the Dodgers sweep and the Bridegrooms/Yankee series ends in a sweep, we would have a four way tie for third place and a playoff berth.
With 64 hypothetical game outcomes yet, I'll wait a game before laying out potential tiebreakers.

Highlanders 4
Bridegrooms 5
11 Innings
WP: Gordon, LP: Wetteland
The Highlanders tied the game with two in the top of the ninth. Tino Martinez hit the game winning home run.

I think it was some random road rat Lima gave herpes. I'll cover that in my next list "Worst Herpes Seasons" per STD+.Babe Ruth, 1925.
-
Bridegrooms 4
Highlanders 6
WP: Lopat, LP: Clemens, Sv: Wetteland
Two RBIs from Nettles capped a four run fourth that put the Highlanders in the lead for good.
Dodgers 8
Gothams 2

Giants 8
Yankees 10
WP: Raschi, LP: Reynolds
Three RBIs for Combs and Henrich. Earle Combs came a home run away from the cycle in this victory.
-
Dodgers, sorry.
-
Gothams 7
Bridegrooms 4
WP: Ford, LP: Gordon, Sv: Righetti
Spud Chandler redeemed himself, compiling a quality start this time out. The Gothams came back though, scoring four in the eighth to take the lead. Wally Pipp drove in three runs.
Yankees 5
Dodgers 3
WP: Hunter, LP: Pettitte, Sv: Rivera
Four runs for the Yankees in the second as they held on to win. Earle Combs hit a home run and drove in two RBIs.
Highlanders 7
Yankees 11
WP: Duren, LP: Ruffing, Sv: Murphy
A duel between the two aces of the 1930s went as well as you'd expect. Nine earned from Ruffing in four innings, while Lefty Gomez allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings. Roy White knocked in three runs with a bases loaded triple.
Six games down. Four teams stand at 3-3. The exceptions are the Dodgers (4-2) and the Gothams (2-4). I will not go into tiebreak scenarios until the last series, there is too much to break down. The league is averaging 5.6 runs per game, the hitters have it all over the pitchers so far.
Gothams have a chance to make up ground as they face the Dodgers. Giants battle the Yankees and Highlanders battle the Bridegrooms.
-

Giants 4
Highlanders 8
WP: Davis, LP: Hamilton
The Giants took an early lead thanks to Phil Rizzuto's (!) three run home run. Graig Nettles tied the game with a three run shot of his own. The Highlanders scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch from Johnny Murphy.

Gah. Don't worry, the program will compile its own standings.

It certainly produced the second worst hitter in the Tobyhanna Township Little League, that's for certain.

Out of all the players on this list, which ones do you think will be called up in September when rosters expand?Happ, Jaramillo and Harman, the three currently on the 40 man roster. Right now very few of the prospects are ready to fill a role in the big leagues.

BTW, the reason I wrote that is that I just couldn't bring myself to write "KKKtookmybabyaway" in the opening sentence of a blog entry, but I didn't want to run it entirely without giving credit somehow.

The best game of the tournament? The Dodgers took the lead with four in the seventh and held a three-run lead in the ninth.
