the US Government now has a vested interest in the Mortgage Industry, and there are talks of the Government buying into banks in the next few weeks. If you dont see that as leading down the path to socialism, then I guess we just wait til they offer to buy some other industry up. You realize having a "vested interest" is not socializing an industry? If we were socializing an industry, there wouldn't be any other companies. Plus, socializing something is sort of permanent, something this isn't. You missed my use of the term "LEADING DOWN THE PATH TO". And something tells me that when the Government buys into the banks, they won't be cashing out anytime soon.

Reports are saying the Global Auto industry will COLLAPSE by next year. The government would almost certainly have to buy out the Big 3 to keep all those high paying jobs from disapearing overnight...though you know somewhere up a tree there is an environmentalist going crazy at the thought of there being no more cars to pollute the Earth..but I digress..

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
MarvinisaLunatic replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
Just today the democrats (I dont know who specifically, look it up) put up a bill that would take away the #1 reason most people put money into 401ks, the fact that its a pretax contribution. No more of that, now that your 401k is worthless, they're gonna tax it so its worth even less. -
(in response to the angry man at the McCain Town Hall meeting) There should be more people like that who are willing to stand up and be heard instead of the whinny BS "nobody in washington listens to the average person anymore..wah wah wah wah wah" YOU CANT BE FUCKING HEARD UNLESS YOU STAND UP AND SAY SOMETHING like that guy did.

Good news! It looks like the Economic Crisis is over! Too bad he's going to lose.

I somehow feel bad for Mr. Fentz

I was 2 years off..you knew what I meant anyway.

Explain; had you heard a salesperson say something similar? The Best Buy sales people are horrendous when it comes to stuff like that. The times Im wondering around our BB and I hear a salesperson blabbering on about TVs I almost always get the urge to want to scream at them for the BS that they spew.

Maybe the dude thinks its the 1799 election and the one with the 2nd most votes is VP

I was waiting to see details of his plan before I went nuts on it. From CNN today: Two things: 1) If the qualifications stand up, then I dont have a problem with it. People who provided accurate documentation of the income and put a substantial downpayment on their homes should be helped out and not the people who got loans with no money down and bogus income information. As it is, it sounds like it would help a lot of people who feel that they were responsible with their money but are being hurt by the economy and watching the government bailout everyone else including people who went out and got more mortgage than they could afford. But I know, as you do, that those requirements will get hammered down so far that just about anyone will end up qualifying for it in the end and that will ultimately kill off any benefit that it had. 2) With the groundwork for McCain's plan being in last week's bailout bill, Obama will have a hard time attacking McCain's plan (dont know if he would or not though) since he voted for it himself.

My hands are tied when it comes to that. 909, Czech (through bob barron, anyways), and Agent are all in support of Marv to some degree, and just having everyone else ignore him, which I sort of agree with. I didn't want to bring this up publicly, but I think it's bad enough now that we took the CE/Sports mask off him that I felt the need to air that out. Either ways, I think it's kind of a lot like the wp syndrome; maybe he's not so bad if everyone could just ignore him, but him being in some threads just completely fucks up the discussion in there and it turns into MARVIN YOU'RE SUCH A RETARD, DUDE SHUT THE FUCK UP, etc.etc. for a while, and to be honest, they're entirely right. The catalyst for bringing him back was that alf wanted to run the fantasy draft and it'd be easier if Marv could just post there. I'm actually in favor of creating a Fantasy Sports sub-folder to keep that sort of discussion (as well as draft threads and all that) out of the main folder, but haven't heard much from the staff regarding that idea. If anyone has an opinion on that, let us know. As for Marv, the only thing I could do is to knock it off, start deleting posts, or just throw the filter back on him. I'd just ban him otherwise because I'm as sick of his shit as anyone else here, but some might find that too extreme. Thoughts, anyone? EDIT: Alternate idea- I am strongly considering going through the campaign thread, carving out all the Marvin posts and the reactions/discussions regarding them, and splitting that out into a new thread either in CE or elsewhere on the board, and if Marv wants to post about politics, he can do it in there. Yay/nay? A) The Fantasy Sports sub folder is actually a good idea. B) We're what, 6 weeks at most from calling an end to the Campaign 08 thread (assuming 2 weeks of after election discussion) so I dont see why theres such a need to do anything regarding that when it will end in a few weeks anyway, although we probably wouldnt be too far away from a Campaign 2012 thread considering how long the 08 thread has been going.

But at least that example, the stupidity falls on the customer and not the sales person.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

I increased my contribution rate to my 401k about two weeks ago to 8% which is the max the company I work for will match (50% of, or 4%). Im losing money in the short term, but Im able to buy more shares of the fund Im invested in at the lower price and eventually when it goes back up It'll end up being worth more in the long term. For people that are 30+ years away from retirement like I am they should be doing this as well and not ceasing to fund their 401k. -
I get that they are trying to use the "guilt by association" tactic on Hannity but its totally not the same. 20 years of association with several shady characters > 5 minutes with someone on a tv show Haven't we already gone over Sarah Palin's crazy preacher yet? Or how her husband is/was (I can't remember which) a member of the Alaskan Secession Party? Or how McCain has actually been a part of a corruption scandal with the Keating 5? Seriously, how does Sarah Palin get a pass on this? Or is it just because she's equally crazy that you don't notice it? Sarah Palin's church has a Kenyan Witch...hunter as a guest for one day < 20 years of Rev. Wright Again, I dont see how the two compare.

There's something funny in watching Marvin completely ignore reality to try and barely make a semblance of a point. Obama can associate himself with shady characters freely with no pressure on him to admit or defend his associations with them, but Hannity has one guy on his show that has made anti-semitic remarks in the past (not on his show though) and now Hannity has to defend himself against being called an anti-semite himself. OK then...theres no real difference between the two at all.
-
Hannity comes out and makes the points about Ayers/Wright and their association with Obama and the only thing that the guest can counter with is that Hannity hates Jews. wow.

With their final pick of the draft, Court Jesters 3.0 selects Steve Blake, PG, Portland Trailblazers I like my team..yay.

I thought American Dad was hilarious. Family Guy was better than last week but not by much.

Im glad to know we've lowered the level of obscenity to $200 million. And there were more factors to this crisis than just "corporate greed". that last statement must have been formed by using the logic that All CEO's are rich. All rich people are greedy. Therefore all CEO's are greedy bastards who should be taxed 99% of their income and like it since normal people could live on the 1% that they would still have for themselves.

Last year, I got Mario Galaxy a week before the sale with the $25 GC deal, and I used towards the sale. I cant really say there are any games out now that are must haves on Nintendo.
-
Well heres a newsflash then, I think that last statement disqualifies Obama as well. Obama's certainly not near Romneys $200 million plus net worth, but he has more money than most average "struggling" Americans will ever see in their lifetime just the same. Maybe we should go to D.C. and pick up the first homeless person we see on the street and have them run for President since you seem to think that Americans want to hear from people who have struggled during the downturn in the economy.
