    Fans cheering the heels

The Undertaker (1991 version) was getting some big face reactions, which is partly why they turned him.

    Favorite year of wrestling

I went for 2000, mainly because it had some incredible matches involving Rock/HHH and Benoit/Jericho. It was also the only time that the light-heavyweight title was even close to being a prominent part of the show, in particular at Backlash when Scotty/Malenko tore the house down. Too much McMahon's maybe, but i can forgive that. Close second to 1994, which was a great time to be a Bret Hart fan. He shone in big matches at the Royal Rumble, WM10, KOTR and Summerslam. The debut of the ladder match (with Razor/HBK) is also a 94 highlight.

    What are you watching?

After watching the Warrior/Savage retirement match about a week ago i decided to watch another retirement match - Hulk Hogan v Kevin Nash from Road Wild 99. There is no comparison between the 2 matches, and the less said about this one the better. I will make a few points however: Did Nash have any power in this company? He got squashed at the end of this thing with the regular Hulk-up/legdrop routine. I dont normally cringe during a wrestling match but this made me. And why was there not one shot of Nash after the 3 count? All they showed was Hogan celebrating with the belt and there was no focus on the supposedly retired Nash at all. This whole match was just horrible, as was pretty much the whole PPV.

Well, KJ Brackish got banned just now

That boy has some issues, no doubt about it.

    Make a statement

Rebuttal: Agreed, if you leave the Rocks appearances a surprise then people are less likely to be disappointed by his role in the show, which have been reasonably worthless like talking to the Divas. The Rock should only be promoted if he was being used in an 'important' role, like special referree for a World Title match. Statement: WWE needs to have a surprise ending, and winner, to the next Royal Rumble because the whole "against all odds" winner has been done for the past two years and is getting stale.

    Quick WWE survey

    1) The WWE product is better now than it was one year ago. TRUE 2) The WWE product is better now than it was three years ago. FALSE 3) The WWE product is better now than it is five years ago. FALSE 4) I believe the in-ring product has improved in the last three years. FALSE 5) I believe the storylines/feuds/angles have improved in the last three years. FALSE 6) I wish WCW and ECW were still in existence. DEFINATELY 7) The WWE will have no real competition in the next five years. FALSE - TNA 8) It was smart for the WWE to go to a "less is more" in ring style. IN THE LONG RUN - TRUE 9) I believe the RAW brand is superior to Smackdown TRUE 10) If I could convince Vince Macmahon to push one guy on either roster to the moon, it would be: RAW - CHRISTIAN, SMACKDOWN - CHARLIE HAAS

    Mind Games 96

My personal Foley favourite is the HIAC with HHH. After that it's a toss-up between Mind Games, the Royal Rumble I Quit match with Rock, and his Breakdown 98 triple threat cage match against Rock and Shamrock.

The OAO Raw Thread for 08/30/04

God, i hope there's no Regal heel turn during the HHH/Eugene match. He looked pissed off at Benoit/Eugene after his match with Flair last week.

Well, KJ Brackish got banned just now

Did Zsasz get banned as well, or just suspended? And why does all this good stuff happen while i'm asleep? Damn timezones!

The Rock as Face or Heel?

I went for Corporate Rock. I loved this period, his ruthless attitude, and his feuds with Foley and Austin. My favourite Rock moment was actually from a couple of months before his Survivors heel turn when he wrestled in the triple-threat cage match at Breakdown and the place was going nuts for him, despite the fact he was the heel. They had to turn him full face for the next few months leading into Survivors, and then pulled a great swerve at the big event.

No way on Vince. Yes way on Heyman. Vince was the most irritating announcer i've ever heard, and while JR is extremely cliched these days he is still better than Vince in his 'prime'. His disgruntled persona, alongside Vince and King in 1996, was brilliant. Heyman is the best Color guy they have ever had. The only guy that comes close for me is Bobby Heenan.

    What has wrestling taught you?

If your lucky enough to pick up a chick, watch her like a hawk because she will turn on you and get it on with your biggest enemy. If you miss a legdrop it hurt likes hell but if you hit it you dont feel a thing. Ditto dropkicks. Any weapon you could ever desire to use can be found under a wrestling ring. Billy Gunn sucks. Having a snappy catchphrase will make you popular regardless of if you have talent or not. Security guards will escort through the crowd even if your appearance was 'unplanned'. (see Randy Orton last Monday for a good one on this)

    Real Life Heat

Wasn't that in NY as well? I know Jericho had the crowd well and truly behind him in the match where he lost the WCW title to Rock. Crowd wasn't happy about that.

    Real Life Heat

Paul Heyman and Jim Cornette as well. Man, I'd love to read a Heyman autobiography just to see who he shits on the most. A Cornette bio would be a fun read too.

    Real Life Heat

Do Flair and Bischoff still have heat? I heard they had a blow-up (because of past WCW incidents) not long after the Bisch joined WWE but haven't heard much about it recently.

If you were training to be a wrestler

I'm 6'6 so it would probably have to be a Mike Awesome (in ECW) style. Obviously, if i got a contract with WWE then i would have to turn into a JBL wannabe.

    RAW RATING

Only if he is kept well away from the Taker - i dont want to see another feud (or even an alliance) between those two.

    The Hart Foundation

I totally agree with you here. The main reason it worked was because Bret completely believed he was right, even though most fans (outside of Canada) didn't see it that way. The angle was based on reality, with Bret slowly unravelling because the fans 'deserted' him for straight-talker Austin, and still supported pretty boy Shawn Michaels, and that was pretty much the way he felt away from the cameras as well - though he did actually respect Austin as a performer, he hated the fans siding with him. That's why Bret never worked well in WCW as a heel, because he was just doing it for the hell of it, and not because he truly had any hatred for Sting, Savage etc.

    Make a statement

Rebuttal: Guys like Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore are seemingly well respected for their abilities, it's their gimmicks that people dont like. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin will also be very big in the not too distant future. Even Luther Reigns has been recognised as having potential. It's only the likes of Tyson Tomko and Heidenreich that give OVW a bad name.

    Best WWF/E heel turn

It's been over 20 years since Vince/Hulk kickstarted the Rock'n'Wrestling era, and took the business in a new direction. There's been a lot of changes since then but several things have remained constant. These are probably the most memorable heel turns from then to now, though there are plenty of others to choose from (HHH/2002, Rikishi/2000, Dude Love/1998 to name just 3). Historically, i think Andre was the biggest (no pun intended), but my personal favourite is Bret Hart from 1997. They built it up and then executed the pay-off perfectly at WM13. Close second to the Rockers break-up. The split was not unexpected, but the brutality of it certainly was.

    Best WWF/E heel turn

Never said it was your fault, all i was doing was just explaining why it wasnt on there. Nobody's perfect. I'm happy to admit that in hindsight it would have been better on the list than maybe HHH/Chyna or the Stephanie turn, but you cant deny that both of them also had some shock value which got attention.

    Make a statement

How can TLC get over without the tag titles? The object of the whole match is to grab the titles while they are suspended above the ring. As for the NAO, they might have gotten over just by being in DX, but they wouldn't of been as big without the "tag team chapions of the wooooorld" tagline. It is safe to say that the tag titles haven't added much to the overall picture since the early nineties, and they will probably never reach their halcyon days of the late eighties again, but there have been some moments in the last 10 years where the belts have meant something.
  23. Australian Pride

    Make a statement

Rebuttal: Road Dogg/Billy Gunn would have never gotten without the tag straps, and the TLC matches were also very high profile. I think it would be closer to the mark to say the tag titles have meant nothing since the botched invasion angle.

    Best WWF/E heel turn

This list does not suck! C'mon, you only get 10 options. That's why there's a category called 'Other'. It's not rocket science. Orndorff's turn on Hogan is one of the most famous of all time. It should have a spot, not fucking OTHER. It's not rocket science. Each to his own. In all honesty i never saw his actual turn on Hogan, have only ever read about it and saw a cage match between them. Sorry if something i never saw doesnt stick in my mind, but that's life. We didnt have the coverage of WWF down here that you guys had/have, and again, that's why there's a category called 'other'. I never claimed this was a definitive list of heel turns, but since every single one of them has gotten at least one vote then it cant be too bad.
