What's the chat name for tonight? EDIT* beat to the punch
-
I'm not particular. Shea is fine with me. I'm fine with you having the renovated YS, I was planning on having an older set of measurements anyway
-
Well, the Highlanders are the Yankees, pre-name change, I just took the older name because it's cool. Shouldn't the "Fightin' Hebrews" play in Israel?
-
Pretty sure I got dibs on it before you, sorry

The Highlanders select 1B/3B/OF Pedro Guerrero

The NWA Title, at one point was very prestigious, and it does have an impressive lineage, but titles do get devalued, and if any title has been devalued over the years it's the NWA's belt. From the debacle with WCW, to Shane Douglas throwing the belt down in favor of the newly dubbed Extreme Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Title, to Dan Severn's long and severely low profile reign...the late 20th century was not kind to this belt. And frankly, TNA has been extremely hit and miss in their presentation and booking of the belt. It's apples and oranges compared to the ROH belt, which based on the booking surrounding it and matches dedicated to it, is far and away the better prize. The question in this thread is whether or not the ROH title is "bigger" I'd have to say that while to the casual fan it would not be, as TNA is on tv and has bigger names involved in programs for the belt, but in purist/smart circles the ROH title is clearly the more prestigious belt. It doesn't have to be that way, but the TNA booking has been so abysmal, I don't see how anyone can value that belt right now

There's a remake of KOJAK?!?! Blasphemy.

Except they didn't actually do that, rather they did the opposite, had Orton win the belt as a heel with no buildup and then had HHH turn on him.

Not hyped at all. The build for the headliners has sucked, not a single one of them I have any sort of investment in. I might have cared about Orton/Taker and HBK/Angle but, as has been touched on, they've butchered the characters. Batista/HHH had me hooked until the contract signing, since then it's been a paint by numbers HHH feud. The ladder match, I don't want to see these guys in a clusterfuck with no buildup, and ladders for the sake of having ladders stopped being interesting years ago. The only two matches I'd like to see are Eddie/Rey and Cena/JBL, but neither enough to pay for the privlage of doing so. RAW last night, their "hard sell" was one of the most underwhelming, predictable shows in recent memory, and that's saying a lot. The opening segment, Kane running in, Orton getting spooked by Taker's "supernatural" bullshit (it's a guy in the production truck, Randy!) making him look like a total lameduck, Angle running in....saw it all a mile away, none of this makes me hyped for this show.

It's an option, but I don't see it happening much. Nothing wrong with Matsui in center, but they Sierra in left is a bad idea. The best hope is Crosby hitting well enough to justify a start or two a week.

Something like this might work in ROH, but even that's a stretch, it's too overt the way it's outlined here, you've got way too much shit going on. Stuff like Foley disowning hardcore wrestling and Steve Corino's "King of Old School" gimmick work because they were simple, subtle jabs at wrestling purists. Throwing out a bunch of smart terms without logic just to be hip reaches Russo levels of retardo booking. Though I must say, the idea of a prelim guy who's cocky as shit and brags about how well he makes his opponents look has some comedic possibilities, just not with the breaking of kayfabe....

I see regression as well, but I'm rooting for them in the West. Always been a Showalter fan, and Soriano as well. I'd be worried about Soriano if I were Texas though. He's never been a great fielder, or had very good plate discipline, and his power output declined last year. Plus add to that the hamstring injuries which have him running less. I don't want to say he was a product of the Yankee lineup because the dude can hit, but he was close to 40-40 back to back years, and it'll be tough for him to get back to that. I'll give him another year or two though, he's only 29 years old. Michael Young, Blalock and Texiera are all good hitters, Hidalgo is average but an upgrade for them, but the pitching just isn't there. I'm still amazed they were as competitive as they were last year.

Haahahaha, that's spot on

Kansas City selects Marlin Jackson, CB, Michigan

Nah, that's not true. It helped solidify Owen Hart after his win over Bret at ManiaX, Kurt Angle who was still in his rookie year and got to brag about winning four matches in one night along with all his other accomplishments, and HHH, who finally started being taken seriously around that time, which lay the groundwork for his accociation with HBK being accepted by the fans.

I've always loved the idea of annual tournaments in pro-wrestling, such as the Crocket Cup, J Cup, Championship Carnival etc. I dug the KOTR, even if some of the booking was retarded and some of the matches weren't great, it was always an event that piqued my interest, which is more than I can say for all of these generic PPVs the WWE produces now. Bring it back, and do it right! 3 rounds on PPV, and no "experiments" like Mabel and Billy Gunn! Treat it like you treat winning the Rumble or like you used to treat the IC title. Winning the KOTR should be a major accomplishment.

Phillips has been in the Yanks system for a while now, he's already 28 years old! He had a good year at Columbus last year, good .avg and OPS, easily the best year of his minor league career. I'd like to see him catch on as a util player, they need some infield depth. And I love Tanyon Sturtze, predicting a big year for him in middle relief with an occasional spot start. His ability to start will come in handy if/when Brown and Wright miss starts.

I can't believe it's only been 4 years. Feels like a lot longer than that that McMahon's had this assed out circle jerk monopoly going on....
-
Can we push that back a half hour? I can't make it til 9, but I figure with about 25 picks before mine I can get there in time.

Ultimate Warrior bashes the Hall of Fame
Precious Roy replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
The criteria is pretty much a) did you make Vince money? b) were you popular? c) were you loyal to and well liked by Vince? -
Exist? Yes
