haha, why are they going hail mary right now? Owens had triple coverage, there had to be a 20 yd route open somewhere

This Bradshaw kid is pretty dope. Amazing that he sat on their bench most of the year.

MCCREE!!!!!!

Manning throwing a pick here would make my day

This Atlanta-Miami do over is complete BS as far as I'm concerned. You can't replicate the conditions of that game with cold players months later, it's just stupid. I'd be surprised if Shaq is even playing in March. And what if Atlanta, hypothetically, traded Marvin Williams for Andre Miller or something like that? Could Miller play? Fine the Hawks or something, but if the officials couldn't fix the problem at the time then tough shit, what's done is done. And it really pisses me off that every single time a team petitions the league based on shit the referees have blown Stern shoots it down, but because these were technically Hawks employees rather than league employees he recognizes the protest. I don't see the difference, a fuck up is a fuck up.

Not that it matters, but it looked completely inadvertent to me, like he was throwing a block and his aim was off. Not saying it's not technically a foul, but stuff like that happens all the time and doesn't get called. I didn't give the Chargers a chance in this game, mostly because of Rivers. I'm impressed so far and I might be one of the few Pats fans who'd be just as happy with a Chargers matchup. They talked a lot of shit last year and before and after the game early this season, I'd like to make it 3-0 against them. We've beaten Indy so many times already, payback for last season would be nice, but it's not like they need to beat Indy in the playoffs to validate the season.

that was the worst PI I've ever seen nice personal foul makeup call, lol

My all-star votes: EC: G - Kidd G - Billups F - LBJ F - KG C - Howard WC: G - Paul G - Bryant F - Duncan F - Boozer C - Yao It's all relative of course. Votes are pretty straightforward on the East side, it's tough to leave out Butler, but I can't justify not voting for LeBron or KG, they're the two best individual players in the conference, and even if KG isn't putting up career numbers he's been so great this year, especially on defense, he's almost singlehandedly made the Celtics one of the best defensive teams in the league. I can't justify a vote for Wade when he missed a couple weeks and even with him out there his team is absolutely terrible. West is a lot tougher to call. You can make strong cases for Nash, Baron, Iverson, and Williams at guard, but ultimately I think Paul and Bryant are having the best seasons. The West guard spots are definitely the biggest toss-up though, Paul has to start IMO, he's having arguably the best season statistically of anyone in the league and he's got his team in contention, but any one of those guys could get the other spot and I wouldn't have too much of an argument.

Oh man, I thought you were trying to be funny earlier when you put the Blazers in your top 5. Portland at #3 is just laughably short sighted. 12-0 is impressive, but come on. If they end up much better than a .500 team I will eat my hat. Portland ahead of Phoenix?!?! Los Angeles??! Dallas??? Even New Orleans looks like a better bet this season. And you would throw in Cleveland as a team that "doesn't matter"??! On what planet???

I don't venture out of the sports section much here and there are weeks here and there where I miss out on those threads completely....so can anyone tell me how Leena hit the shitlist?

The Cavs should do everything possible to try and get Miller. Larry Hughes and Daniel Gibson aren't point guards. They could be really, really dangerous with 'Dre back there. I don't know what they have to trade though, all their picks are going to be in the 20's and the 6ers already got loaded with mediocre draft #'s in the Iverson deal. Varejao and Gibson are probably the most desirable but they're also pretty important to the Cavs and most importantly both of them seem to have really good chemistry with LeBron. Drew Gooden is a guy they could part with, he's really talented and plays hard but he's also inconsistent and seems to be overmatched sometimes, I don't know if he'd appeal to Philly.

Maybe when he's in the joint a Braves fan will shank him for ya

The line about the Tigers is so absurdly hilarious, I had to vote for that, but the baseball player one is great too. Like, I get was he was saying, but the way he said it was completely retarded

Eh, I haven't really seen the guy play much the last couple years, but he used to be pretty solid fundamentally on D, making the right reads and rotations. Maybe he's lost a step or maybe it was just because he was the only Knick who gave a consistent effort on that end that he just looked good comparitively, I don't know, but he was solid

Brezec is soft, a jump shooting center who doesn't rebound very well, but Hermann was really good when he got time last year. I know they've got Richardson, Wallace and Carroll, but you'd think they could have got him on the court more often. Eh, it's not a horrible deal for the Bobcats I guess, they need more depth up front and Nazr at least plays defense, but it's a great deal for the Pistons. Hermann could be a really good sub for them.

It's a running joke at Fire Joe Morgan. It's funny, but everyone parroted it until it took on a life of it's own.

double post I also find it suspicious that there are really no relevant names on the list. All the "new names" are out of the game, past their prime or already heavily speculated upon and suspected (Clemens, Pettitte, Tejada). Not that I'm expecting to see Pujols, A-Rod or Ortiz like so many people speculated about, but doesn't it seem off to anyone when the biggest current name is Jack freakin Cust?!?

It really can't be stressed enough that this isn't a definitive list, it's simply a list. Take everyone on there to the bank, but I'm already sick of seeing, "well, so and so wasn't on there, he's clean." There's obviously going to be hundreds upon hundreds of players who used steroids but fell outside of the sphere of the investigation for whatever reason. It's impossible to catch everyone after the fact. Bagwell is a guy I'll always suspect and basically assume was on something, and I doubt I'll ever be swayed from that belief. It seems foolhardy to go to sleep at night with pleasant dreams of Bags dancing in your head based on this, but whatever, you do you. And re: the lack of Red Sox, I also find it suspicious, but not at all surprising due to the conflict of interest there. It would be like asking George Steinbrenner to investigate steroids and expecting to see A-Rod, Posada etc. show up on the list. Everyone's like, "oh, he's a former US senator, how can you question his integrity?" Last time I checked politicians were some of the dirtiest motherfuckers in the game, since when do we trust their word at face value? I don't care how respected he is, every crook in Washington has people who'll swear to their "integrity". Even if he didn't implicitly cover anything up there, there's no reason to think he wasn't influenced to look the other way or take certain things at face value without digging any deeper. Not saying he did, but would it surprise anyone? I'm skeptical of the integrity of every single person involved in the sport, and I don't see why Mitchell, a guy with direct and current ties to a major league baseball club, should be above all of that. And does anyone really believe that Selig didn't have some kind of input on the final draft and list of names, through whatever channels?

Tinsley is averaging one more assist and less than one more rebound in 10 more minutes a night, big deal. As a starter Calderon is averaging 12 points, 10.5 assists, just 1.5 turnovers and stellar shooting %'s in 35 minutes a game. Toronto was 5-3 with him starting, and Bosh basically missed 5 of those games, plus Bargnani was hurt. Their team played great last season when Calderon was in there. And I'm not sure why you think he couldn't succeed in a slower offense. I've seen Tinsley's play sabotage his team too many times over the years. He's having his best season in years, and I don't have any problem saying he's one of the most talented PG out there, but I don't trust him. He's as liable to brick a dozen shots and turn the ball over 5 or 6 times as he is to go for a near triple double. And he's definitely benefiting from an up tempo system this year. We've seen him play on half court "grind it out" teams and it wasn't pretty. Hell, the Pacers often looked better when Anthony Johnson was running the team.
-
I love Calderon's game. Personally, I think he's a better player than TJ Ford. Much better shooter for sure, can finish in the paint, doesn't turn the ball over nearly as much (he's actually leading the league in A/T ratio right now by a wide margin. Ford has 12 more turnovers in 5 less games), and a better defender. He's also got good size for a PG and is pretty scrappy. Ford is really quick and can make some spectacular plays, but he's also prone to being reckless, doesn't have deep range and his jumpshot is inconsistent. Plus he's a major injury risk. I thought Milwaukee got the best of that trade, and while Villanueva hasn't been very good for them, I still think TJ Ford is overrated. So yeah, I'd put Calderon right outside of my top 10. I definitely like him better than Nelson and Daniels at this point. It's close but probably more than Tinsley too, who even when he's playing well turns the ball over a ton and shoots sub-40%.

I like the Hawkins signing. One year for a guy with a solid track record over the years and a lot of experience. If anything I just like him as a veteran presence in what figures to be a young, revolving door bullpen. We've had success with these types before, and with the way the relief market has blown up he's worth a shot. Better than signing Luis Vizcaino to the 3 or 4 year deal he wants. If he gives us 40-50 good middle innings it's a big plus, and if he doesn't then so be it. Not like we're expecting him to be Tom Gordon. Now we need to get Mike Remlinger and Kent Mercker out of retirement.

Some Mets fans are speculating that this could be a precursor to a deal for Santana or Haren, with the pretext being that the Twins and A's had soured on Milledge but really like Ryan Church..... ... Minaya is on WFAN at 4pm. You can listen to it at wfan.com. It should be good because Francesa and Russo always grill him and they've already brought up the fact that the Mets sold low on Milledge and if the market wasn't there would have been better off just not trading him at all, so Omar is really going to have to explain this one beyond touting the talents of Church and Schneider.

Ryan Church and Brian Schneider. I just came in here to post that.

I figured, national TV, division leading opponent, the Knicks would at least bother to show up. Of course they were going to lose, and probably lose by double digits, but at least have some pride. This was a new low. They were in danger of a) having their score doubled, b) losing by 50, and c) setting the NBA record for lowest scoring output. Time to rid ourselves of Isiah. Would be nice if we could get rid of James Dolan/Cablevision and Marbury too, but I'll settle for Isiah's head. I've given him every benefit of the doubt along the way, let myself buy into whatever hype this team has had in the offseasons, but I've reached the end of my rope. Enough is enough. First it was the Larry Brown fiasco, then the sexual harassment lawsuit, now the complete loss of control of his players. I don't even care who they hire. I'm not even sure who'd want to try and clean up this mess, but it can't get any worse.
