The Cardinals are pathetic. Poor Matt Leinart.

The 80's were the only decade the Yankees didn't win a championship.

GO TIGERS! I still can't believe the Tigers are in the WS. Never thought I'd see it....

A couple things I want to touch on Soriano will be 31 at the start of spring training next year. A 5 year deal isn't going to kill you if he starts to decline in the last year or two. Personally, he's proven to be a durable player and I think he's going to be good well into his mid 30's, maybe sees a decline in his stolen bases but an upswing in his avg/obp, but it is a bit of a roll of the dice. I just hope he stays in the NL. If Anaheim were to get him they would be very dangerous. My prediction....Chicago Cubs As far as Matsuzaka I would love to see him on the Yankees, he was great in the WBC, but everything I'm reading is that Seattle will outbid everyone on the posting fee, and that Steinbrenner still feels burned by Irabu and isn't so enamored with the guy that he'll go above and beyond to get him. Torre coming back...my gut reaction was that a change would be good for the team, but I'm such a big Torre fan, I was glad to see him brought back for what is in all likelyhood his last season as a manager. A firing or resignation would have been a sad ending.

bullshit Have you ever been on a team?

It's the same thing I say about the Braves. There's a certain point where regular season success leading to post season failure becomes more trouble than it's worth. Yes, you can win your division every year, but if you never win it all what does it matter? And in the case of the NYY it's amplified by their payroll and the media spotlight. Bottom line...pitching...chemistry.....VERY IMPORTANT....the Yankees have not had it come playoff time the last couple years. That's the problem, and there is no easy fix, but there ARE steps that can (and need to) be taken to correct that.

Give us Dunn and Arroyo and we have a deal

LOU PINELLA! I'm good with that.

It's streamed on WFAN.com I'm SHOCKED that someone got that out there on the air, because I know it's on a 5 or 10 second delay. They actually did brief cut outs of the host stammering after he cut the guy off, so it wouldn't surprise me if the control room had been doing a little drinking too

I'm rooting for the Tigers, so they'll probably lose

SAM CASSELL PHONE HOME!

maybe not, but who else is out there? I'd have more confidence in 40-41 yr old Maddux than almost any other FA righty on the market. OMG WFAN is HILARIOUS TONIGHT! It's all drunk Mets fans calling in. Tony Paige is cutting off everyone like 30 seconds in. One guy: Tony: "How ya doin?" Guy: "I'M DOING FUCKING GREAT!" ....... Tony: "Okkkkkkaay. Curb your enthusiasm tonight people. Curb your enthusiasm........let's go to a break"

Mo pitched in game 1

If we could sign him to a good deal (lowish downside and incentives that tie into his health/performance), sure, he's worth a shot, either as a starter or a reliever. Maybe he gets healthy, maybe he doesn't, I'd be willing to roll the dice on someone as talented as him. The only problem is there's probably a team or two out there willing to look past the injuries and overpay for him, and in that case I wouldn't want him.

well, the Mets proved me wrong, I really thought the Dodgers would push them to the edge and maybe even had their number. The Mets rallied around the losses of Pedro and El Duque and played great baseball. Personally, I like Willie and Omar and a lot of the Mets players, but I just can't root for the Mets. This reduces me to rooting for the Tigers or A's. Can't wait for this world series Oh well, at least the Knicks will be good this year.

Torre WAS a major component of their past success, but it doesn't change the fact that he's lost his touch and misses guys like Mel and Zim. The problem with firing Cashman is that it doesn't fix the problem. I don't profess to know what goes on in George's head, but he has to know that the blame falls on Torre and the players before Cashman. I won't rule out Cashman getting the axe as a "someone needs to pay, things are gonna change" move by George, but the wrong person would pay and nothing would change, and any astute Yankee observer would see that. Honestly, the "OMG FIRE/KILL EVERYONE" nutjobs aside, Cashman getting fired would get almost unanamous bad press in NY.

Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers and Jim Leyland. The Tigers are our daddies, and I'll be rooting for them against the A's. What a terrible day to be a Yankee fan First off, anyone calling for CASHMAN'S head is an idiot. This past offseason was the first time he was given total autonomy in building the team. Prior to now he was simply the negotiation guy and had to deal with constant meddling from The Boss and his Tampa "experts". They were the ones who pushed for Jaret Wright, they were the ones who wanted Sheff rather than Vlad Guerrero, they were the ones who didn't want Beltran when he was practically begging the Yankees to sign him. They were the ones who let Andy Pettite walk. A-Rod, Randy Johnson...those were no brainer acquisitions, and any Yankee "fan" who trys to retroactively spin those as bad deals is flat out full of shit. Pavano? Every team in baseball that needed a pitcher was after the guy. I didn't think he was a smart pickup, but that's just one strike against Cashman (and Steinbrenner and his people pushed hard for him). What did Cashman do in his first season in (more or less) sole control of the team? Signed Johnny Damon. Signed Kyle Farnsworth, Mike Myers and Ron Villone. Traded for Bobby Abreu, Cory Lidle and Craig Wilson midseason (and gave up almost nothing in the process). DIDN'T trade Cano, Melky, Wang or any of the minor league prospects. We got mixed results from the relievers, but there simply wasn't a whole lot out there in that market this past offseason. As far as adressing the team's needs (a power pitcher and lefty arms) he did the best he could. All the other additions turned out about as well as could be expected. Would it have helped the team to acquire an impact reliever/starter at the trade deadline? Yes, but then everyone would have bitched when they had to give up Melky/Hughes/Clippard/Duncan to get it done. I just don't get how anyone who actually follows the team could place the blame on Cashman. My gut reaction is that it's time for Joe Torre to ride off into the sunset. This team has simply not gotten it done for him in recent years, and I think it's time for a new voice of leadership and a new approach. I also think he's been exposed when it comes to managing his bullpen without Mel Stottlemeyer around, and some of his lineup choices have been puzzling. Bring back Joe Girardi. And my patience has officially worn thin with Alex Rodriguez. I defended him all season, I chastized Yankee Stadium crowds for booing him, but after another AWFUL postseason and after everything that was done and said by the media and Alex and other players, I just think he's become a divisive force on this team. Is there anyone out there that can match his numbers? No, but I'm starting to believe that his presence in the clubhouse is doing more harm than good, and that the Yankees can not win with him. I hate to throw this term around but he really is a cancer. The real question to me is who wants him? Who wants to pay that contract? Can the Yankees get ANYTHING worthwhile in return? Sheffield? I'm a fan, but I don't want him back. Randy Johnson? Please retire. Bernie? I love ya Bernie, you deserved to go out on top, but it's time to retire. Jaret Wright? For the LOVE OF GOD can we please pawn this guy off on someone? Obviously the area in need of the biggest upgrade is pitching. The hope is that Clippard and/or Hughes can contribute next season, but rushing them is the last thing we need to do. Possible free agent targets: Andy Pettite Greg Maddux Gil Meche Kerry Wood Ted Lilly

I love that everyone is pronouncing the Yankees dead already

The Yankees will not lose tommorow
