How is it a good pick up for them? Surely he couldn't have been the only guy capable of playing second base that was available. If the Tigers are picking up the second year of his contract, then Jim Hendry may have just pulled a smaller scale Aramis and Kenny for Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez. What's his contract like? I think it's a good pickup because Polanco might be out for the rest of the year and they don't really have another option at 2B. They didn't give up much for him. I know that Cubbie fans hate Neifi, but he's a capable fill-in for the Tigers, and when Polanco comes back he goes to a utility role.

I thought Leinart looked pretty good last night. It's pre-season, and he was playing with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string guys, but he's only been in camp for a week. His runs especially were impressive, he read the d and made decisive moves, a lot of QB's would fart around in the pocket. He's got great instincts. The Cardinals line played like shit. I never like to make big judgments on pre-season, but that could be their biggest problem this year. Cassell, Maroney, Faulk and Asante Samuel looked great. Brady was Brady. I agree with the Dillon/Maroney/Faulk trio causing a lot of headaches. Once Branch and Jackson get on the field our offense will be scary.

I'm guessing the Polanco injury necessitated the trade for Neifi. Good pickup for them. As much shit as he gets he's still a decent contributor. And it would thrill me to no end to see Neifi Perez get a sniff at a ring before the Cubs do

I think there's a two-fold reason for that 1) A ton of fairweather/bandwaggon fans since they won the world series. I know a lot of these people. They all "love" the Sox and "love" Big Papi, but they barely even like baseball, much less have any sort of devotion to their club. 2) Sox fans have a split personality now. Their identity has changed since finally winning a series, and a lot of fans find it hard to summon up the rage that they previously had

One thing I noticed, call me crazy, it looks like this Red Sox team doesn't particularly like each other. Mike Lowell looked disgusted just going around the horn after a play. Beckett looked like he wanted to murder Javy Lopez. In some of the dugout shots I saw the guys looked like they all hated each other. Maybe it was just the depressing losses, but I don't see a whole lot of that "Cowboy Up/Bunch of Idiots" camaraderie I'd love to see a fight but I just can't see it happening. This Red Sox bunch lacks passion. Unless Francona gives a Lombardi-esque pre-game speech and Schilling takes it upon himself to personally murder one Yankee. You can bet, if anybody needs to be beaned to set it off, that it's Damon. Or Cano.
