Belated congratulations, Kingofthe909! The missed games by West, LeBron and Camby really killed me at the end, but I'm still happy to have the regular season title. This was my first keeper league, in retrospect I should have dropped West and probably shuffled my regular lineup more during the season. There was no reason to keep Sebastian Telfair all season, that was personal bias. My keepers are LeBron and Billups. -- I hate giving up Camby, Okur and even Odom and West, but that's the way it goes. I might declare a third keeper before the next draft.

I'm keeping LeBron.....haven't decided on the 2nd guy yet

rock star for Willy Mo looks like a steal. Sox will probably get him 400+ ABs, and he'll mash in that park watch, Arroyo win win a Cy Young now...

Would those officials overturn a run like that to the USA? I don't think they would
-
wow, I want the USA to win but this is some BULLSHIT home cooking here. What the fuck are they thinking?!

A lot of interesting things with the Yankees this year How will Johnson perform in his 2nd year with us? How will Guidry do as pitching coach? How will the rest of the rotation shake out? Can the new look bullpen be a sucessful of a bridge to Rivera as Gordon was? Will Cano build off his success at the plate and improve on defense? How will Damon perform in NY? Can Giambi keep it up? I always keep tabs on the Red Sox, and they should have an interesting season as well. Plus Toronto, and Baltimore with Mazzone. I'm also interested to see how well the Mets do, and the NL East in general, that should be a tough division. I'm intrigued by the Dodgers' potential, the Brewers, and it'll be cool to see Jim Leyland managing in Detroit.

PLEASE don't write off San Antonio yet. Duncan, Horry and Ginobili are on cruise control until the playoffs, Parker is having his best year yet, and in any given big game you can count on one of the Barry, Finley, Van Exel three headed bench monster to go off. Phoenix is great and everything, but San Antonio did a great job defending Nash last year, Amare and KT are big question marks at this point, I'm still riding with the defending champs
-
when the season is over you keep a certain number of players, which carries over into next year's league
-
I agree with that. Nash makes them a playoff team. Marion takes them from just a playoff team to a legit threat. But take Nash off the team and Marion will really struggle to carry them, that's not what he does. Marion is an amazing player, but he's an athlete/slasher, he doesn't make the players around him better like Nash does. I don't really think it's even a debate as to who's more valuable to that team.

parsimonious = cheap I hope Lewis actually used that word and it wasn't just an overzealous sports writer, that's like some shit Mike Tyson would say

Oh, and I'd never heard Fall Out Boy before....I thought they were ok....but it seemed like they were trying way too hard to be At The Drive IN

I didn't tune in until the "tokens" skit...and flipped in and out after that Natalie Portman is amazing. She's not a good dramatic actress, but she's really good at...something....I'm not sure what it is...but she's definitely talented, and likeable, and when she's on the screen my attention is drawn. She's perfect for a show like SNL...it's unfortunate that she's a big movie star, I'd rather see her in goofy sketch comedy than big budget hollywood movies Thought the running "Olympic joke" gag during Weekend Update was great....Portman was great here I like the "Noonie" skits....no fucking idea why, it's a cheap Sprockets ripoff in spirit with none of the creativity, horribly retarded, but for some reason I like it...

With Dallas-Phoenix, San Antonio-Phoenix and the Dallas-San Antonio game the other night we're getting some great WC playoff previews. That Spurs-Suns game is huge.

I haven't read all of this thread, but I've got the feeling in recent years that baseball has rebounded in a major way since the mid 90's. A lot of people declared baseball dead and buried...but it feels like now (and I may not have the proper perspective since I'm in the midst of the hottest Yankees/Sox period ever) that more people care about the sport than they did 10-15 years ago. Obviously the steroid fueled HR chases had a lot to do with bringing them back from the strike, but even with all the steroid controversy now it doesn't even feel like it's been a negative, it actually feels like it's drawn more interest because people now feel like with that threat over player's heads that they're seeing a more pure game, they have this assumption that the game is pure again, like it's some sort of vindication of modern man when guys are all jacked up and killing the ball. Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like baseball is hotter than it's been in a long time. I also think that the growth internationally has brought a lot of interest as well. Ichiro, Matsui, all the South American guys....it's something new to people, these guys are interesting characters, they draw in new fans, it gives the game a different feel.

Davis was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. NOBODY was going to satisfy the university and it's boosters following two decades of Knight, especially not someone as inexperienced as him. It didn't help that he made it to a championship game with Knight's players and then didn't get anywhere near that level with his own, if he'd had even the slightest degree of success the last couple years he could have stayed the execution. As it is, I think the only reason he hasn't been fired yet is that the administration was reluctant to admit they made a bad choice in hiring him, hoping he'd do something to justify it. As I said earlier, I think Isiah Thomas would be a GREAT hire, simply due to the fact that he'd be an amazing recruiter, not just in Indiana but throughout the country, and that he'd get instant respect and could relate to his players. And he wouldn't have the bagage of feeling he has to live up to Knight's legacy like most coaches would, he's Knight's star pupil and has a great relationship with him to this day, and his ego is so big that that pressure wouldn't phase him at all. He may not be a great X-O coach, but he'd surround himself with competent assistants to handle that stuff, his job would be to bring in talented players and motivate them to perform at a high level, which he's perfectly suited to do.

You're not allowed to celebrate with me 50 years from now, when they win the title mere seconds before I give way to death's cold embrace.

This Clippers-Jazz game has been really fucking good Oh yeah, and FUCK Tim Thomas. Lazy motherfucker

So what's the issue then? I agree that the ESPN guys talk out of both sides of their mouth, these are the same people who were praising Danny Ferry in the offseason for resigning Z and bringing in Hughes/Marshall/Jones. But, I don't see why you should be concerned with it or let it affect your perception of LeBron James. The reality is, right now they're getting absolutely nothing from those three FA signings, and the rest of the team isn't very good. Z is Z, he's solid but not a worldbeater. Snow is steady, nothing more. Flip, who just joined the team is already their 2nd most dangerous perimeter player. This is the same kind of discussion that takes place regarding any superstar player who's the dominant personality on a team. Remember Jordan & The Jordanaires? That was the entire basis of the Detroit Pistons dominance of the Bulls. They said, "Jordan, fuck you, you won't beat us," and he didn't....until the rest of the Bulls, Scottie Pippen especially, stepped up around him. Part of the reason for all this, if you go by books like the Jordan Rules, was that early on Jordan was so strong willed, and often abusive of his teammates in practices, he was so demanding of them, because he was so demanding of himself, that they wilted under the pressure of playing with him. Eventually Jordan realized that his tough love needed a little more love and a little less tough...he started deferring to Pippen, trusting him more, he blossomed...the rest is history. LeBron's a smart kid, he's not even trying to go through Jordan's growing pains of finding balance between dominant and deferrant, he's jumping right into picking spots and having complete trust in the guys on the court with him. That's going to pay off in the long run and will probably make him a winner earlier into his career than Jordan ever was, and it's why comparing LeBron to Magic Johnson is more accurate (or really more like a cross of Jordan and Magic). And right now, Kobe is guilty of pretty much everything that Jordan was guilty of, guys just standing around because they know they won't see the ball, Lamar Odom talking about how it's like "playing with god" etc. etc.

Almost every sports analyst in the country. Within the last hour to be specific, John Saunders, Scottie Pippen, Tim Legler and Greg Anthony. Is that clear enough? Who gives a fuck? What did I say in the first response I made to you? "the media has unrealistic expectations, don't buy into that crap" Notice something about all those guys you named? THEY'RE ALL ON ESPN!!! ESPN drums up controversy to get ratings. They do this with all the major sports. It's all, "what have you done for us lately." Criticizing LeBron is sexy.
