Brand might make his FIRST all-star team!

Knicks win again, but ever since rolling his ankle Telfair has just absolutely blown up. 27 pts on 8/12 fg 8/11 ft 3/5 3pt, 6 boards, 7 assists, 3 steals! Frye puts up another 20 pt game, 8/10 fg

How do the Patriots STILL pull off the Vrabel trick play?
-
I'm not saying he didn't show anything, but he was a rookie PG coming out of HS, he wasn't going to lead them to tough road wins. Cassell has been there and done that, the pressure that a guy like Livingston is going to feel in those situations is nonexistant for him.

I honestly had never heard his name until just now. Veras was a decent prospect in the Devil Rays' organization but apparently stalled in 2004. The Devil Rays made him a reliever, but let him go after the season. The Rangers used Veras as a reliever full time in Oklahoma, where he struck out 72 batters in 61 2/3 IP. Veras has control issues but a real live arm. This is an encouraging acquisition for the Yankees, as this is exactly the type of way a smart organization builds a bullpen. Get a few of these guys, pay them the minimum, and if one or two pay off you're set. Once in a while, one of these guys turns into a Bobby Jenks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is the kind of signing you never would have seen from the Yankees the past couple years, and I'm guessing it's a direct result of Cashman returning with the promise of more autonomy in decision making/less interference from Tampa who knows if it pays off, but you're right, it's creative and low risk

And the Clippers improvement on the road can be put solely on the head of Sam Cassell, he's a HUGE improvement over Jaric/Brunson/Livingston

So, how long til the Lakers bring in Karl Malone/Dennis Rodman/Charles Oakley/Kevin Willis/Corey Blount/reanimated corpse of Bison Dele/reanimated corpse of Will Perdue?

I'd be worried. They're still going to be a scrappy team that gives people trouble, but I really doubt they can duplicate the success of last season. Personally, I doubt they'll make the playoffs. The lack of size is going to kill them, Chandler seems to be having trouble adjusting to playing center and not having another big body playing beside him, and right now they're starting Nocioni at the 4. Sweetney looks to be playing well, but losing Curry and Davis really hurt them. I know it's early, but Detroit, Indy, Miami, Cleveland, Philly, Jersey, Milwaukee, and Washington, barring any major injuries, look to be good bets for the playoffs. The first 6 for sure, and I like Washington and Milwaukee a lot better than Chicago right now.

Looking at Blalock's three year splits, yeah, he's been pretty bad on the road. But, he's only 24, and since the Marlins seem to be looking to the future it doesn't seem like such a bad deal. They dump Lowell's contract, and get this Diamond kid as well. You can never have too many good pitching prospects, even if you can't use them all they're grade A trade bait. Plus, they figure to break the bank for Willis and Cabrera, Beckett will probably be too expensive for them down the road. For Texas, unless Lowell was a product of "enhancement" I have to think he'll rebound from last year and put up respectable numbers, especially in Arlington. They really need an ace, and Beckett is a damn good pitcher when he's healthy. The one concern is all the nagging injurys he seems to get.

Hey, I would have liked to pick up Eyre, and his numbers don't look that flukey, it was his best year yeah, but he's been pretty consistent this decade....but fuck, that's a lot of money for a specialist reliever

Really not true. They had GREAT attendance from like 89-95 or so, led the league in attendance several years, but between trading Zo, trading LJ...George Shinn fighting with the city over a new arena because he wanted taxpayers to pay for the ENTIRE thing, which led to him taking the team to New Orleans, plus he had that "sexual misconduct" thing that was a big scandal....they got burnt out on the Hornets. It's a great basketball market, but when you have a great thing going and a douchebag owner screws you over...it'll take some time for fans to trust the NBA again.
-
you have GOT to be kidding me! Seriously! Are you retarded?!? Portland has been a strong NBA market since the 70's. It was only recently with all the "Jailblazer" shit that fans started to get turned off. Remember when they had the longest active playoff streak, from like the early 80's to the early 00's? I think it was like 21 years. And yeah, they were pretty much selling out every year, and the fans loved the team. A couple bad years for the team, some mismanagement with players, and "Portland sucks" as a market EDIT* and Charlotte is a GREAT basketball market that got screwed by Shinn. They just need to rebuild consumer confidence, that's all.

Except, Ewing was on that 98-99 team, averaged 17-9 in the regular season, even played some in the playoffs, but got injured during the 2nd rd. Some might even say the team rallied around their injured captain to make that improbable Finals run. They definitely could have used him against Duncan/Robinson in the finals, where their lack of size killed them. He was on the team the next year too. Was traded after the 99-00 season.

FIRST PLACE, BITCHES!

That was a WILD finish to that game! Awesome! I don't know why, but I'm enjoying the downfall of the Eagles.

This argument is SO DUMB! Do you people even think about this shit before you put it out here? I know AL touched on this, but WHY would the Yankees have been better off than the Red Sox in that situation? It doesn't make any sense. With Tony Womack or Russ Davis playing 3B (they didn't even pick up Bellhorn until late in the year, and he was so productive that the RED SOX cut the guy)? A-Rod was in there basically every single day playing good defense, hit his ass off, ran the bases, moved all over the lineup.....basically, if you think the Yankees could just patch that hole and make up for that production you're an idiot. The SOX had the more complete lineup top to bottom, and they had the better bench. In just 2 more potential ABs they had a better team BA, better OPS (OBP + SLG), more runs, more hits, more total bases, more doubles, more triples. Take Ortiz and A-Rod off the teams...that doesn't change. The only thing the Yankees did better was hit home runs. Congrats to A-Rod, HE DESERVED IT!

The Impact of Eddy's Death on the WWE
Precious Roy replied to SilverPhoenix's topic in The WWE Folder
A part of me thinks Chavo or Rey Mysterio should win the title....but another part of me thinks that would just be wrong. I think it's way too much pressure to put on Chavo with all he must be going through right now, and while I think Rey deserves it, I don't think it should be under these circumstances. I think Benoit should get the belt....I think it should be done in a tournament dedicated to Guerrero....and I think it should be over Rey Rey in the finals. A million gold stars to whoever suggested that. -
I mostly just come here to post about sports, and I've already expressed my feelings at other forums and don't have it in me to come up with anything poetic right now, but this is just so tragic and sad. It's been about 8 hours since I heard and I still cant get over it, still can't come to grips with it, it just came out of nowhere, I NEVER would have expected something like this. I feel so much for his family and friends, and this was a huge loss to the business. Eddie Guerrero was an inspiration to me and so many others, he overcame so much in his short life, the way he died and the timing of it....this just sucks, it fucking sucks. RIP Eddie, may god be with you, we're all gonna remember you.

KNICKS BEAT THE KINGS! YES! got balanced production too, 6 guys in double figures, including Frye with 19 on 8-13 from the field

PR nightmare?

I forgot that Stephanie took a stinkface....that's great JR shows just a little too much enthusiasm calling that spot

I hope he's traded back to the Yankees

Well, as long as I'm pretending to be Brian Cashman with King George's money....I'd pay 1/3 of Pavano's contract to get Overbay and maybe a relief prospect. I mean, Overbay isn't exactly cheap himself I don't think, and most of that team is filled with young, inexpensive players. If, like you suggested, the Brewers would look to do a 1-1 swap (which is kind of what I was thinking, based on the team looking mostly complete and the fact that they did a 1-1 with established guys last offseason, and they're looking to be competitive now)....what better trade options for a mid-rotation starter are on the market? Most guys who they'd target couldn't be that much cheaper than Pavano. They have Sheets, Capuano, Doug Davis....Ohka wasn't bad last year....I think they'd really benefit having a guy like Pavano in the rotation....much moreso than the Yankees would

trade him to NYY for Carl Pavano....and they can swap Alyssa Milano war stories in the process
