I'm about dead from exhaustion after the Spurs-Leicester game. The defending from both teams was absolutely atrocious (i knew we're crap but Doherty & Richards are just as bad as what we have), some of them were taken well but every goal was at least preventable if not completely soft. Leicester were awful in the first half but deserved a point in the end, going 4-3 up with 10 men was amazing but they never hold on to anything. Nice to see Dickov give Tarrico a good bit of stick, he's Robbie Savage+10 attitude wise but nobody likes Tarrico. Wolves next week is the crunch, lose that and we've had it, win it and there's a fighting chance.

I can't listen to this album without crying.

The Electro-Shock Blues album by Eels is very bleak but it does have moments of hope and black humor, it also ends on a hopeful song in PS. You Rock My World. The way its treads through real life trauma but manages to come out the other side by the end is what makes it a great album. Good Shout on I See A Darkness as well, maybe a couple of smog albums could get in as well for being so miserable. Two other albums that spring to mind are Red House Painters s/t album and Big Star's s/t 3rd/Sister lovers album. R.H Painters is a really emotionally draining album, brilliant but not that easy to listen to from start to finish as its certainly not short either. I don't think Big Star's last album is as depressing as some would say but something like 'Holocaust' won't brighten up your day unless you were planning to slit your wrists anyway.

I wouldn't really disagree with much of what Caboose said earlier but i'll add my two cents anyway. Its right to say Leicester don't have a proper rival team to hate with a burning passion. Being E. Midlands, Forest and Derby are no 1 & 2 but its those two teams who definately share a deeper and more genuine rivalry, the rivalry Leicester have with Forest and Derby is no more special than how it is with Villa and Coventry really. Almost every City fan who lives towards the southern end of the county (i think this is right, i'm crap with local geography) have to contend with either living near or working with Coventry fans, the cut-off point for Warwickshire (forgive me if i'm mixed up), or around that area is a 50/50 split between the two sets of fans (Leicester fanzines normally have a little bit of anti-Cov stuff if its written by somebody living that way, to them its the team most important to beat). Wolves are still a biggish rival but its not hateful like it was when Mark McGhee was there and for a couple of years after he left. Millwall because of Dennis Wise also count a little for as long as he's there and there's always been a healthy dislike for Spurs since the 1999 League Cup final. They probably don't care now Savage is gone.

    Best Ryan Adams Album

Yes. I always think of Pneumonia , the final Whiskeytown album, as a companion piece to Heartbreaker . The album was essentially a solo effort in all but title and is of similar high quality. All the deserved acclaim he got with Heartbreaker seemed to make his head swell and ever since his songwriting has gone completely down the tube as he seems more concerned with being a 'rock'n'roll star' than writing any decent songs anymore. Strangers Almanac and Faithless Street by Whiskeytown are superior to anything he's done post-Heartbreaker.

    Radical new anti-Bush tactic

    1) Conason got OWNED! 2) Nice to see the insane left ADMITTING to planning on peddling lies. -=Mike It's funny that someone who claims to be the most moderate poster on the board CONSTANTLY comes up with irrelevant stories that no one gives a shit about and/or takes seriously about extremist liberals, all the while gleefully pointing out the "Hypocrisy of the left". I mean really, generalizing the ENTIRE left for slandering GWB because a couple of dipshits made up a rumour in a few chat rooms? Thinking that this sort of crap carries weight or has credibility is like saying that the fucking Drudge Report is more reliable than the NY F'n Times. Larry Flynt might, just MIGHT be lacking in moral character? GET THE FUCK OUT~! I think that was all that needed saying here, he nailed it. Love the common sense. *Closes Thread*

    Anti-French Sentiment In C.E.

Can't we turn CE into a proper flaming folder or something? It would be much more entertaining than NHB/HD and going on the recent threads over there its about time we made it official. That folder is really paying the price for letting one gang of inmates run the asylum for so long, shame really but then you get cunts in all walks of life.

I really like that show so far, sure its completely daft and stupid but there's some very funny stuff in every episode up to now. I especially liked the first episode where all the background stuff about the show was covered, just very clever and very funny. The atention to detail is brilliant, every cliche of a bad 80's Sci-Fi/Horror show is present and correct, the opening credits are hilarious, the theme tune and sound effects spot on and little touches like the old Channel 4 logo appearing work especially well. I think it may have worked better as a one off special or two-parter or something like that but i do really enjoy it. You're dead right about the Dean Learner/Thornton Read character, absolutely hysterical and has me in stiches when he delivers every corny line. His fake laugh and point captured every week in the opening credits is gold.

Go way left with the sarcasm next time and I don't think you'll have anybody bitching about it, you'll be able to troll to your heart's content with inane & identical posts.

He's not too bad, he's never really been bad enough to labelled a liability at any time although his best days must be behind him at this stage, he had his best run when O'Neil was still here I think. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't do a solid job for you in Div 1.

    Anti-French Sentiment In C.E.

I'm deeply offended as both a Christian and an eater of Cheez-Its. If Christ, indeed, died on a cracker, I'm worried for the fate of my soul. More importantly, Cheez-It's cheesy goodness has been severely diminished for me because of this bigoted statement. If Chave can have Marney banned for her horribly racist French jokes, I demand the banning and deporting of Dr. Tom to Canada. This is the kind of stupid post that has become even more widespread in CE than the tedious anti-french stuff (notice Dr Tom indulges in both and often instigates it, what fun!) and comes mainly from the usual idiots although there's been a worrying tendency for CE newbies to copy them: Result = Countless unfunny 'mock outrage' posts every fecking week. To be fair the worst of the French stuff has passed. At one point some silly twat posted a topic about thousands of elderly French people dying in a heatwave for the sole purpose of inspiring some cheap 'jokes' in possibly the worst and most distasteful thread in TSM history. For the most part though that stuff was (and still is unfortunately) just tediously witless banter for a bunch of boring bastards that is just offensive to anybody with a decent sense of humor. I wouldn't advise anyone try that same stuff on the subject of Blacks, Jews or Homosexuals though, best to stick to the xenophobia.

Nick Oliveri Leaves Queens Of The Stone Age

I think Lanegan is a big loss as he was easily the best vocalist they had and the band even if he was rarely the most prolific contributor or fulltime member. Saying that, his solo material has always been so good that its great he'll be able to give it total priority. Oliveri only played on Blues For The Red Sun as far as Kyuss is concerned anyway didn't he? Homme became a touring member of Screaming Trees briefly before they called it a day so the connection goes a way back. Maybe Oliveri will go back to getting drunk, naked and arrested with The Dwarves again, if they're even still around.

Strange to see Impey AND Rogers loaned out together, just one going wouldn't have bothered me but two seems weird. I'm not sure we have that much cover in the full-back position although they can always be recalled I suppose. I presume/hope Peter Canero, our recent signing from Kilmarnock will be avaliable pretty soon to possibly fill in on the left side. Scimeca played there on Tuesday and unless something happens to Thatcher the left side is ok. I haven't heard about Brian Deane yet, I think thats a mistake on West Ham's part if its true (with Defoe it makes them -2 strikers) as he's at least a useful squad member and could be vital in certain games,

    English Football

Oh yeah, I totally agree that its very special indeed, I was just typing a pretty much stream-of consciousness piece about how some fans harbour unrealistic ambitions in relation to how the game has changed for the worse since the Premier League era. Some fans aren't living in the real world anymore because 95% of them unfortunately will never see their team put in a fight for major honours, much less win one. That percentage has never been all that much lower of course because there has always been the haves and the have-nots in Football, the problem is the gap became too big with too much money flooding the game that the achivements Forest earned under Clough (as a mid-level Top flight club say) are almost certainly never to be repeated. The era where, say, a couple of dozen or so teams could still dream about it happening if they were lucky enough to land themselves a special manager and an especially good crop of players at any one time has probably gone forever. Forest should really be nowhere near the position they are at the moment and should be in the promotion scene. Look for Micky Adams to eventually end up at Southhampton if/when Leicester go down. Maybe.

Your most hated sport or sports league.....

Well, a player has to have an IQ above room temperature to understand football strategy, so I guess it all balances out. -=Mikr Trust me, nobody ever said soccer players were the brightest bunch around in general terms but when they're on the field they can adopt a natural grace which is seldom seen in any other team sport. Somebody as daft as Paul Gascoinge was transformed into an intelligent (tactically aware) and skilful (flair, technique and creativity) individual with his own distinct personality to his play because of pure natural talent. I've always found American Football to be a bit overstuffed with strategy, tactics and statistics to the point where it lacks any diverse spontinaiety (you know the word!), that surprise spark/thrill of the unexpected. On the flip side I know some people love the fact that each play contested comes down to a basic battle of wits of both a physical and mental nature.

Your most hated sport or sports league.....

Whaaaaaaat? Footwork is just about the single most important thing for a wide receiver, other than hands. It's a battle to get a step on a defender, and that takes uncanny balance and timing. All while using one's hand at the same time. Nearly every sport requires good footwork to some degree, thats just stating the obvious really. I wasn't actually claiming American Football players didn't have that skill or weren't very good at it, I was just joking (I even put a yellow smilie!) about how 90% of your 'foot'-'ball' game doesn't actually involve the need to kick the ball with your feet . Apart from the punts and Field Goals (I used to play John Madden!) I can't think of when else the game requires any need for players to have good ability at striking the ball with their feet.

A good reason to own guns in the home

Maybe I should be mocking you for not having the freedom to own 12 (or more) guns, for not having the ability to make that choice for yourself, but that would be unkind. I just feel a little pity. Glad to hear it. I'm sure your kids are glad to hear it, too, when they're raped or murdered. Feel sorry for us we have the same gun culture as America has one day. I wouldn't begrudge anybody in the UK the legal right to own firearms if they so wished so i'm not disagreeing on that point, I just hope there doesn't come a time over here where people feel they have to take that descision to feel safe in their own homes. It would be interesting to know how many would take up the option if the government made it possible but our culture simply doesn't live with the same paranoid fear of violence or historic affinity for firearms that exists in America. Your attitude to the issue seems as strange and alien to us as ours must be to you I suppose.

It's a bit too simple for Europeans, it seems. They can't quite make themselves accept that evil per se actually exists. Oh, I know evil exists, the Devil & the Boogeyman and all that...yep. For my sins, I just happen to live somewhere where I don't feel the need to own 12 fucking guns fer christ's sake!! Who should really be mocking who here exactly? I guess most of us simple European folk don't come into contact with guns in our lifetime, sure we miss out on a few of the simple everyday pleasures in life like taking our kids to shooting ranges but we get by nonetheless.

There was a Forest fan on the radio the other day who said that by rights they should be looking to be sitting in the top 6 of the Premier because they're such a well supported club far and wide and it got me wondering about just how delusional fans can be. Ok, so Forest had a true glory era in the late 70's/early 80's when they were the best team in Britain and Europe, but those achievements were made possible by an extraordinary manager in Brian Clough. He took an unfashionable club and turned them into champions, if only the biggest and best supported clubs in the country had a devine right to win trophies of that stature then Forest shouldn't have been in the reckoning but we all know that thankfully (much less so these days mind you) football doesn't always work like that. Unfortunately we will never see clubs the size of Forest win the biggest trophies again because the financial gap has become just too wide, a top 6 premiership place for Forest would be overachieving on a grand scale without a serious cash injection. Clubs like Middlesborough or Fulham would be in serious trouble if their sugar daddies left them, clubs like Charlton overachieve because of excellent managers and even the likes of Alan Curbishley will, unlike 25 years ago, have to manage one of Britain's select top few clubs to emulate Brian Clough record.

I appreciate the need for protection in American Football with the insane bumps players take and agree it can be pretty fun to see somebody nearly decapitate another player with a well timed clothesline. Even so, its a poor substitute compared to Rugby where proper tackling takes place, where its an actual defensive skill where it takes both strength, timing and technique to stop an opponent, any 300+ pound idiot can whack somebody in the neck or head. When you've grown up watching Rugby it looks silly to see an American Football clip where somebody runs 90 yards to score without having to evade any meaningful attempt at a proper tackle because everybody else is involved in what looks like a wrestling tie up. You're right no soccer player could take the punishment dished out to American Football players but then again there's no similarity between the games anyway, you actually have to be useful with your feet to play our version of football

My eight year-old niece stays with us about three nights a week on average. She's got her own air pistol and we take her to the firing range at the NRA building once a week to practice with a real weapon. Her current ambition is to earn her NRA Junior Marksman badge before Christmas. An 8 year old at a firing range? What a lovely image that is, warms the cockles of your heart it does.

I couldn't believe it! Pride Park looked about half full. Paul Hart's got the chop at Forest, I can't believe how badly they are doing this season. Derby seem to be showing a lot more grit and determination than Forest as well at the moment. Leicester were lucky to lose 3-1 from all accounts. Off to the pub for Bolton on Tuesday, a drink eases the anxiety and depression.
