WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - September 2007
10 Pounds replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
Just had time to watch the Regal vs Finlay shorty....wow, they ever stiffing each other like there was no tomorrow. It's really lame that they would edit out "Thorn in your heart" for Raw is War. I swear the dub music they used for the Raw before Summerslam is a menu music from one of the Smackdown videogames. -
Hallelujah !

Ever noticed the old bearded man dressed in all red with a cap who's always sitting in the front rows in the Sportatorium and goes absolutely BALLISTIC when a heel cheats ? He always gets up, points to the heel and yells "HEY ! HEEEEEEY !" at the top of his lungs ? I, for one, can't wait for World Class to show up this month. -
WWE slowly updates their alumini section without ever mentionning it anywhere on their website. Quite frankly, I never thought this guy would ever make the list before the wrestler who inspired the gimmick. Also, in news that will surely make AndrewTS really happy, Molly Holly is now part of the alumini section as well.

The OAO Thread For The Twentieth Annual SummerSlam Games

Glad I splitted the bill with 3 others people because that wasn't worth $40. Thumb in the middle at best. I liked Orton/Cena despite the first half having 4 Orton Chinlock Spots. Batista/Khali was god-awful but all of us who watched the shows rooted for Khali just for shits and giggles. HHH's physique looked more of HHH 2000-01 than roided-upp 2002-03, which is a good thing. As far as the best thing of the night goes, I'd say it's a tie between Regal dancing or Austin running the ropes in preparation to the beer drinking contest. -

I watched this week Summerslam '97 and the Raw before it, how cheap was the Patriot's gimmick ? Good God, even Jim Duggan had more subtlety. I always wondered how come a newcomer like him got title shots so soon against Bret Hart, who, with 5 title reigns to his name, put him on par with Hogan on the "Greatests Champions" list. It's obvious he was nothing but a cheap foil keeping Bret Hart busy while waiting for the Hart vs Michaels rematch and the scheduled Hart vs Austin II for Wrestlemania XIV. Does every American wildly cheer any guy with the Stars & Stripes on him and goes "USA ! USA !" ? Watching these old shows, especially NWA, shows how much character developpement and the promos are stale and homogenized nowadays. Every promos from the last few years sounds the same or is filled with lame juvenile jokes. I mean, the Horsemen, Dusty, Bret, Michaels and Austin never needed any scripters to write their promo for them. If the Rock was never given a chance to talk, he would never got past the Rocky Maivia stage of his career. Can't anybody these days write their own promos instead of being given The Generic Promo by Failed Sitcom-Writer # 41 ?? There could be quite a few guys in the roster who could be something big one day but we cannot notice them because, apperently, who goes over and when they do seems to be a carefully planned and very selective processus. That's a shame really. Finally......Miss Elizabeth at Summerslam '88.....damn. -
How come when Wrestler A irish whips Wrestlers B into the ropes and lifts his arm up in the air for a split-second before the contact, Wrestler B will counter Wrestler's A back body drop ? Or when Wrestler A does a shoulderblock to Wrestler B and there is a small pause, Wrestler A will run into the ropes, jump over Wrestler B, who will leapfrog over Wrestler A and, not until then, there will be an attack ? Not really stupid things but these must be universal rules of wrestling because it seems to happen every time.

If the bottom Batista picture would show him screaming or whatever, it would be a total ripoff of the Fable game cover art. I know I'm four pages too late but : = +

Any shirt that has a wrestler image on it, even worse when he's half-naked. Remember those shirts in the mid-90's where the front was just a giant face of a wrestler ? I remember the Road Warriors having one of those, they were just awful. I never buy wrestling shirts because the vast majority of them are lame and not worth the $25 they're charging at live events. I only bought one wrestling t-shirt in my whole life and it was on an impulse because everyone in my group had bought one. It was the Carlito applehead with "I know cool" written on it. I wore it a few times but I guess it's now my official "go to a wrestling event" t-shirt. There is one shirt however that would break all those rules and, if I could ever get one, I would wear it all the time and it's the "Owen 3:16 - I just broke your neck" shirt. Was that shirt ever officially produced ?

As far as Raw compilations go, there is a Best of Raw vol. 1 & 2 DVD and a Vol. 3 VHS. Vol. 1 & 2 covers post-Survivor Series '97 to Autumn '98 where Austin is fired by McMahon and feuded with Taker & Kane. Vol. 2 covers the birth of the Corporation to Austin being ran over. The footage on these tapes is mostly Austin vs whoever at the time and Dx vs Nation stuff. There are also random extras like the Corporate Rumble, Chyna turns on DX, etc... No great matches like Foley wins the title or memorable skits though. Vol. 3 covers 2000 from the time where HHH feuds with Vince and Steph turn heel up to the return of Austin. Being a VHS, there are no extras. I don't remember much from the tape.

The Horsemen DVD is edited. When it comes to mid-90's WCW and Pillman joined the Horsemen, they say something like "We were riding once again" and then wham, we go straight to the conclusion. Seriously. -

Actually, except for the automatic reply, I don't think WWE ever answers to (or even read) emails. -
Who will get the pop-that's-way-too-big-for-a-jobber-but-let's-cheer-him-'cause-he-speaks-french in Montreal next time ? Personnally, I'd mark like a bitch for a Raymond Rougeau appearance.

This week, I've received by mistake an email containing a dozen pictures or so of a newborn baby from European people I didn't know and never heard of. Since my name is my email address, the people who sent this to me must have mixed my address with a similar one and reached the wrong person. All of the pictures they took are perfectly normal pictures of a baby....except for this one : Now I don't know what is freakier : the guy with no pants and white socks up to his knees or the guy with purple fuzzy pants, sandals and red-painted toenails, which judging by the other pictures seems to be the father.

I read somewhere that Shawn was more in favor of Sid being the champ rather than Vader because he knew Sid would bomb whereas Vader would have gotten uberover as a monster champ. For Summerslam '99, HHH winning was always the solution except that Jesse Ventura, who was governer at the time, didn't want to raise the hand of a heel, thus the Foley transitional reign. -
A little trip down memory lane. I remember playing the hell out out that game, along with Streets of Rage 2. How come Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist are so similar ? Edit : Heh, just for the hell of it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBKwjEmk_cQ

....looks like I was the only one to put ketchup in his sandwiches. I know a few people who put ketchup along with gravy, now that is absolutely disgusting.
-
According to my TV preview for Raw this coming Monday, it says that Vince's illegitimate child would be revealed. So much for a long burn.
-
What's so wrong with ketchup-only hot dogs ? There are better ways to eat one but it gets the job done. I'm a ketchup whore anyway. Until college, ketchup was the only way to go when I was making sandwiches. I was the only one in my circle of friends that put ketchup in his sandwich and the other couldn't believe how I could stomach that. There's no way I was the only one who put ketchup in his sandwiches.....no ?

The HHH teddy bear has a Ned Flanders mustache. I like Taker though. The Shawn Michaels bear is just great, no smile and balding.

Just finished watching the MNW......the ECW segments on Raw really were something revolutionary for the time. Funny that in every ECW match they would cut away to an interview for a match later on. Paul Heyman was on fire, making all sorts of crazy insider references that no one really got such as "Who (bWo) are they referring to ?", "We welcome homosexuals and bisexuals in ECW", "The tapes Bruce Pritchard leaves on your desk every week" and "Has this show sucked without ECW or what?" following a lame Shamrock-Lawler segment. Speaking of Shamrock, I was surprised at him asking McMahon for a fight against Faarooq. At the time, when a wrestler was thanking/blaming McMahon for anything, I always asked myself why would they do that. After all, Vince McMahon was only a commentator at the time. Gorilla Monsoon had all the power ! -
One ! I'm so there. Is GHIII next-gen only or will a version come to PS2 ?
-
This dude......although I don't remember seeing him in WWE. It's like the only mention of him on the website.

Nowadays, I find comedies to be completely lame and unfunny but I don't remember laughing so hard in a theater in all my life. That movie was great, on par with Season 2-9. Sure, the secondary characters weren't used much but since it's only the first movie, the focus would have been on the more popular characters. They will surely be more implicated in the sequel(s).

Judging by the "next month" preview of the last few weeks, I was sure we were gonna get classics matches from past Summerslams (like Bret vs Owen, Austin vs Taker, Bret vs Bulldog, Bret vs Perfect.) instead we get outdoor matches. Not a bad thing but that promo was misleading. At least, in a few months time, we will have the springbreak Nitro where it is obligatoiry that one must take a bump in the pool. Ric Flair and The Four Horsemen....that would be cool to see but I strongly doubt that I'll ever get it.
