The OAO Raw Thread for 8/15/05

I didn't see yet how the show was on TV, but last night was great. The crowd absolutely HATED Michaels and I couldn't hear all of his promo because the crowd was so loud. There were many chants of "We Want Bret" before the show began. Even though the crowd popped huge for Bret's music, I think we all knew that he wouldn't come to the ring, at least not in the beginning of the show. I wished that he could have done an appearance off the air, only for the crowd. When the show came off the air, Cena came to help Hogan but Angle and JBL interfered. Batista's music hit and the crowd went apeshit. It was the best match of the evening, lasted maybe 10 minutes. Mostly the faces controlling the match andm finished with Hogan doing the legdrop on Bradshaw. After that, Hogan-Cena-Batista posed maybe for 10 minutes and that was the end of the show. And, for those of you who wonder what the crowd was chanting during the Edge-Venis match, it was "Salope" and "Charrue", which means "Slut" in French. The hockey chant was "Tu pues d'la noune", which can be loosely translated by "Your snatch's smelly". There was also faint chants of "On s'en calisse" during the Conway-Hurricane match, which means "We don't give a shit". Overall, a great night for booing HBK.

    Roddy Piper's I.C.O.N. shirt

Piper also had a "Yes Sir !" t-shirt during the Russo Era in WCW. I wonder if they ever sold it to the public ?

...except for the final minute. "Kane, you're a MURDERERRRRRR !" Since we're in this timeframe, I'll add the Montreal show that took place a few weeks later. There was the birth of the "Two!" chant, the crowd chanting "What" during Kane's explanation of the Katie Vick accident, the crowd turning on Randy Orton by chanting "Na-na-na-na" and the HHH-Flair-Forklift sighting during a hardcore match. There was the Bret Hart anthology promo...man that was mean.

I'm currently playing Animal Crossing. I know that you can play NES games and all, but how can you get Punch-Out ? I went on the AC website and some forums, although there are codes you can enter to unlock some games, I haven't seen anyone unlock Punch-Out ? Anybody know how to do it ? Is the Legend of Zelda collector's edition worth getting ? I already have Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I don't own the two NES games but I played them while I was younger, although I never beat them. Anything on it beside the games ?

    Capcom screws Nintendo again..

Is Silicon Knights still a second-party for Nintendo ? I read one time that they could go multi-consoles because, apparently, there were problems with the amount they received for Eternal Darkness. And if I might add, even though it has nothing to do with the subject, I've just finished ED for the first time yesterday, God was that game amazing. The sanity effects are great.

    WWE begin the releases

The Raw pic and the "Pick up the phone Tyson !" line were really great. The pic also says the truth : if you look at the past few Raws, the bimbos, HHH, Masters and Snistky really took some airtime, altough Snistky is a secondary player in the Edge/Kane feud. As for the releases, the ones that I'm most saddened about are Haas, Akio and Dawn. If the rumors of hiring guys like Kid Kash and Bryan Danielson are true, Akio could have been a part of the cruiserweight division, along with the Mexicools and Kazarian. But maybe there are other wrestlers that feel the same way as Spike, being forced to work along the script you're given and all... I don't know where those rumors of releasing Shelton came from, but that would be a total dumbass move. Especially if stiffs like Heidenreich and Viscera are still employed.

    Bad Games That You Love

I remember that I bugged my parents to no end so that they would buy me the game for Christmas. I received a big wrapped box, which contained another wrapped box, which contained another box, etc... ( they did the same thing for me when the Game Boy originally came out ) ... all the way to the Power Rangers Movie Game. I was estatic, me and my brother went to play it right away. Not even an hour later, we beat the game and none of us died once. What I considered to be the greatest game in the world was in fact a crappy clone of Street of Rage that was just there to capitalize on the movie hype. On wrestling games, I owned Royal Rumble for the Genesis. All the wrestlers, save for their finishers, had the same moveset and I could end a match at the hardest difficulty under a minute. However, I played it all the time. I was making my own storylines, which were beyond stupid, and there was like a King of the Ring tournament every 30 minutes. When Raw came out later, it was beyond awesome. I mashed the buttons so hard the first day that it gave me a blister on my thumb. Other bad games that I enjoyed are the ones usually found on old X-in-1 NES cartridges. The ones I remeber the most are Legend of Kage, Elevator Action, City Connection ( damn that cat ! ), Sky Destroyer, Devil World and that game with bubbles and the girl you could undress. God did that sucked.

I must have a dozen games in my collection that I bought months ago, but still haven't played with. I'm instead playing with the same games that I played with 10-11 years ago ( like Sonic Mega Collection and Mega Man ) instead of current ones. I pre-ordered the collector's edition of RE4 in January. Before playing it, I wanted to go through all the series. I gave up at Code Veronica because, with Zero still to go, I was sick of those games. So I lost the hype and still haven't played with it, what a way to waste money huh ? Online cheaters in Socom II can lick my balls. Game of the moment is Fight Night Round 2, great game but CPU uses too much haymakers.

One and Only "ECW: One Night Stand" Thread

Apparently, according to the Observer, those who had problem with the webcast was because there weren't enough bandwith, the demand was too high. Does anybody know if it happened before or it's the first time ? I was marking out just by reading the thread. Let's hope that the DVD won't get edited, it seemed like the greatest PPV in a long time.

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread

While it pisses me off to no end that I can't go to the midnight showing, I am totally in the Star Wars hype. I'm gonna see it this weekend, and I've been viewing the other movies in the past two weeks. Phantom Menace was not as bad as I remembered. Sure, it's flawed but there some good moments in it. In the scene near the end where Jar-Jar kicks one downed robot and accidently kill other robots with it, if you look in the background, you'll see a gungan fighting one-on-one with a robot and he punches it straight in the face......for some reason, I found this totally hilarious.

    Wrestlers Debuts in Companies

I was in the crowd for NWO 2003, and the crowd reactions for HHH/Steiner were great. First of all, during the video package before the feud, Earl Hebner came out and there already were fans chanting "You screwed Bret" at him. All he did was standing on the ropes and flipping off the fans in the front row. To be honest, I think we'd had the intention of crapping over this match all along. Many of the fans were smart marks (Quebec had a strong IWC a few years ago). We booed Steiner at the second he came out, and there weren't that much of a reaction for HHH, there were some for Flair though. I missed the beginning of the match (piss break) . The spots I remember was the crowd shitting on Steiner for not being able to rip Triple H's cast, Triple H getting a monster face pop for shoving Hebner, the first belly-to-belly Steiner threw (we remembered what he did at the Rumble ). There was also a spot when Steiner had Triple H cornered (Boos), HHH reversed it (Cheers) and Steiner got back the advantage (Boos). Finally, the match dragged on too long and there were some "boring" chants, and the crowd was begging for the match to end when the belt shot didn't worked. Even tough the match sucked, we had a great time all night long. Montreal was great for having smart crowds, but the last shows we had have been pretty lackluster.

    HAS ANYONE READ:

I really enjoyed Death of WCW. I mean if you followed wrestling during this time, alot of if you already know, but it was great to relieve that whole history and see the stupid things WCW did back in the day. Highly recommend this book, and besides, I got Bischoff and Nash to sign the book! You should try sending RD an e-mail. He said that there was no chance that Eric Bischoff would ever sign his book. As far as I know, Nash and Russo have signed the book, but not Bischoff. So you could be making the next update.

Favorite Old Man Flair Moment . . .

Flair was gold in the musical chairs segment. While it was treated like a joke since the beginning of the segment, Flair gets all serious after 2 or 3 turns and had thrown his jacket off. He also began strutting behind Stacy only to push her, and went hysterical because he strutted when the music went off immediately after the last elimination. And, whether it was sarcasm or not, mentionning Bagwell among all the legends of the NWA and WCW during the final Nitro was crazy too.

    Most Shameless Shilling in Wrestling

In the summer of 2002 on Raw, during the Fink/Lillian feud, both announcers had to shill the XXX movie and let the public decide who did it better. WWE are pretty annoying when they're shilling their own products, remember all the advertising for the "Originals" CD last year ?
