    Greatest African American Wrestlers

Man, Scorpio would have been top three if he didnt start fucking with that crack rock. He blew a really good opportunity in the WWF.

Verne Gagne suspected in death investigation

Why are you trying to make light of, and minimize, Benoit murdering his family? Over the years we made all kind of character assassinations and assumptions about guys like HBK, Nash, Hall, HHH, ext... Because they looked our for themselves and didnt play "fair" with anointed internet favorites. Benoit murders his son and wife and its like "so". Yes he was a great wrestler ---- BUT DAMN. As far as Verne goes, this story is super random. Dont know what to make of it. Getting old sucks. You dont know what the hell you're doing at a certain point. But he was really, really good at it. Much of TSM can forgive brutal, premeditated woman/child murder because of that, why can't you? Yeah, I know. Its really fucked up to me, because I remember how for years posters would call guys like Hogan and Nash "pieces of shit" and claim that they were horrible human beings because they played "politics". Hell, to this day the will still go in on those guys like that. But confronted with true evil, they want to shrug their shoulders because being a great wrestler and having a legion of marks should apparently trump all --- even murdering your own child and wife in cold blood. That's really creepy if you ask me. Dude killed his seven year old son and he has youtube tributes talking about RIP Benoit and we miss you?????? Thats cult status, homie. People need to get their moral compasses in check.

Started out good, but pales in comparison to the best decade ever for professional wrestling: the '90s

    The Youtube Thread

Damn, I remember that crazy bitch attacking him and the camera showing it for a lot longer than they should have. LOL at Creature of the Night. Paul Bearer was fucking hilarious. He's one of the funniest people ever to me.

Let's Talk About...Dusty Rhodes' WWF stint

C'mon now. He may have done a dance or two to reflect his common man character, but it was nothing like what we saw him do in the WWF. They made him out to be a retard. The whole gimmick was designed to humiliate him. They're pretty upfront about it.

Let's Talk About...Dusty Rhodes' WWF stint

They didnt bury him, in terms of placement on the roster --- they just made an ass and a joke out of him and his whole career. Yeah, he had good feuds and all, but they had him wearing polka dots, doing stupid ass dances, and they introduced him cleaning shit out of a toilet among other humiliating skits.

TNA PPV's getting only 14,000 buys

LOL. So giving Cornette the book is trying something new?? That cat still thinks its 1986. I do agree that they need fresh minds. I still dont get why they dont look to recruit writers and bookers. Start up some sort of contest online or something and have people submit booking ideas.
  10. Yeah, he's just speaking his mind --- I really cant fault him for that. I can imagine there is a certain amount of frustration when you are not allowed to advance in a company for superficial reasons. I'm far from a WWE hater, but the bias they have towards "small guys" is ridiculous and accounts for a lot of whats wrong with the industry. Damn, he went in on some guys. The Evan Bourne stuff was "eh" but he ripped Hardy a new a-hole.

Let's Talk About...Dusty Rhodes' WWF stint

He really played himself --- the WWF made a fool out of him. That whole gimmick was designed specifically to laugh at him, nothing more. There wasnt an ounce of dignity in that gimmick. Remember the vignettes that they created to introduce him? some people are hoes when it comes to money.

    TSM Profile: Bam Bam Bigelow

Well, if Hogan was trying to sabotage him, he did a really poor job. bam bam was crazy over. His knees sabotaged his run in the WWF. He needed double knee surgery and it stopped all his momentum. Why do Hogan, Nash, and HBK have to be the reason for EVERYONE's career malfunction? It's a cliche at this point. He seemed to be his own worst enemy at time for one reason or another.

Was Shane Douglas the Hulk Hogan of ECW

He was tremendously mediocre in the ring and his penchant for relying on cursing was exposed when he hit the big time in '95 and '99. He was so adept at feeling sorry for himself and blaming others for his failures, as well as coming from the Don King school of self promotion. He talked such a good game, people actually thought he was on a Malenko/Guerrero type level. Truth be told, he was instrumental in getting ECW off the ground and responsible for a lot of their initial success. But I think his importance to the company's development takes a back seat to guys like Sabu, RVD, Raven...ext.

    Joey Styles sucked

To each his own. I think Joey definitely ranks with the greats, because they all had their good points and bad. He was an identifiable, signature talent that emerged at a critical point in the industry. I dont think we have seen a new announcer that has come along since that has been close. Yeah, to me he was a flashier, 90s version of Solie and Russel; but to me JR was the best. He married so many different eras and nobody could call a bigger match with more authority and communicate the emotion behind it.

Biggest "Drop the Ball" Moment in Ever

I thought Heyman's plan was to have a "World vs. TV" feud, with RVD holding the TV Title...but RVD got injured before he got the chance. Yeah, the plan was for RVD to chase Awesome for the belt, on TNN television, but RVD broke his leg and Mike Awesome jumped.

    Biggest Fall from WrestleMania Grace

Only thing about Bam Bam is that he was really just placed in a novelty match. He wasnt really pushed before or after the match --- its not really shocking that he fell out of that slot, because he never really was a main eventer to begin with. They had high hopes for Luger as their '90s version of Hogan.

    Joey Styles sucked

ECW was most certainly an Indy promotion from 94-99 by anyone's definition. His presence and skill made ECW come across bigger than it was. That was my point. I think selling storylines and calling actual names of moves dont have to be sacrificed one for the other. You can do both. Explaining a name of a hold or move adds credibility and is certainly better than "what a move"!!. I mean, shit, it works for the UFC. I think to criticize him for calling moves is just criticizing for the sake of criticizing. Joey was great, IMO. I'd put him up there with Solie and J.R for sure. He was a big cog in what made the ECW machine so good at the time for reasons I listed in an earlier post.
  18. Randy Savage doesnt belong. For a guy that had to follow the biggest star of all-time to that point, and a run of business unseen before, he did a very good job.
  19. Nice little Shan-O-Mac ass kiss at the end. Homeboy is batshit crazy. Loves to talk about himself, tho.

Biggest "Drop the Ball" Moment in Ever

I completely agree with CabbageBoy with his invasion analysis. WCW was in such a dilapidated state by the time Vince brought them. Their roster and image sucked. That said, they probably could have gotten more out of the brand, but in reality Vince actually did more with WCW than the NWA did with their UWF purchase. Man, those guys got buried IMMEDIATELY. Hogan and Flair / and Bret in WCW are the ones. Man, hogan vs. Flair should have been the match of the century. Just hold it off and build towards Wrestlemania 8. There is no good explanation for why they messed that up. Bret was the biggest star in the industry when he jumped. They made him ordinary as soon as he appeared.
  21. You think them continuing the show was bigger than one of the biggest stars in the industry murdering his whole family? I thought the PPV continuing thing was really overblown. People were just pissed at Vince, and kind of latched on to this story to persecute him a little. I guess over anger out of letting such a great guy die on his watch. I mean, there have been plenty of examples of shows continuing in the face of a major in-show accident. Its a tough, judgment call. Its not as cut and dried as people make it out.

    Biggest Fall from WrestleMania Grace

Yeah, this is the right answer. Go from main event to fighting the Blu brothers in one year?!? Shows how hard he flopped

    Joey Styles sucked

I think this thread is bullshit. Since when did calling moves become some kind of detriment? Calling moves is good because, if for no other reason, it allows casual fans to follow the action, learn the names of moves and feel a little more knowledgeable. Joey was really good. He was funny, charismatic, knew his shit, helped sell angles and sounded somewhat professional. Pretty much every indy that has had tv over the past decade or so has sounded so amateurish in the broadcasting area. I dont see how anybody could diss him. Dont compare him to Cole. Cole is a fucking nerd. He talks like he has never gotten in a fight in his life, nor a piece of pussy. Joey at least had a little swagger and edge.

    The Shoot Interview Thread

I dont disagree with much, if anything, of what you wrote. I guess I was more or less referencing the 90s for the most part, although there were fundamental booking tenets of Memphis that I disagree with.

    The Shoot Interview Thread

For the most part Memphis is just low-rent and so deeply southern-fried that it could only be tolerated in small doses. It was racial. Outside of Lawler the wrestling wasnt great. They had some of the stupidest, lamest gimmicks ever conceived and they had this horrible penchant for siphoning all the talent out of their heels so that they were all cookie-cutter bastard types that had to rely on cheating to win. The glass ceiling was built into their infrastructure. Memphis was either for washouts and local rednecks or for guys who were up and coming and would leave before they arrived because the conditions were so bad. Its sad to hear over and over that guys were just starving there. Bill Dundee and Dutch Mantell say otherwise. Also Koko B Ware was awesome as was the RNR Express, Ricky Gibson, Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Rich(before he got fat), Buddy Landell etc etc. But yeah it's not for everybody.
