WWE General Discussion - February 2008
Cheech Tremendous replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
The reason people care is that the number one goal of professional wrestling is to make money. This isn't a legitimate sport that just exists to determine the best competitor. It exists as an entertainment product and the only way to measure success in meeting this goal is by analyzing how much money it makes. Why take the time to discuss angles and booking if you're not concerned with the end product? Those things exist to SELL the ppv. -

Pretty sure people hated the Bulls. Hell I hated them and I am a Chicago native. I always thought that the '80s 49ers, '90s Bulls and early '00s Pats (not this year's team) were all universally liked. Sure there are always dissenters in a large group, but my pereception was these teams were cheered even when they were steamrolling their competition. Perhaps that's just the perception I gained from the people I was surrounded by at the time. EDIT: And just to expand on this, I can't remember any sports team in my entire lifetime being more loved than the Bulls in the 90s. I'm not sure why Walkin Dude feels differently. As a kid growing up playing basketball during that era, the spectre of Jordan was inescapable. -
In Peyton's playoff runs, the Colts have been waxed by New York, upset by Pittsburgh and beaten by San Diego. Sure, they've lost to the Pats twice in the playoffs as well, but Manning has found plenty of other ways to choke in the playoffs. Four or five Super Bowls sounds like a pipe dream.

It's a good thing you added that last sentence before I got a chance to.

The NFL is not a private company. They have anti-trust exemption granted from the United States government. I never understand why people get upset when Congress meddles with the affairs of professional sports. It's part of their job. They don't all spend the day sitting around discussing Iraq. There are committees who have the responsibility to oversee major corporations with spheres of influence over American economy and culture. I'd be worried if they weren't taking a closer look at the business doings of these multi-billion dollar industries. That being said, Spygate was the biggest non-story made into something that I can remember. Just let it die.

That makes no sense considering Kwame is an expiring contract... why not just ride out the rest of the season and take the cap space. They don't really have a need for Kwame. Why pay him and his stone hands the rest of his contract to help the team to 18 wins? Negotiate a 75 cents on the dolllar deal to get him off the books.

I just heard that they got a two hour extension so something must be close.
-
Poor guy spent his twilight years building this joke franchise into something and six months later they are bottom-feeders again. What a sad team.
-
Like we need to drudge up this non-story again. They filmed a defensive coach and the league found out and punished them. End of story. Who gives a shit what they did with the tapes?
-
It almost seems like the Mets are going to blow this. I don't know how, but it sure seems that way. How can you get him for nothing and then turn around and not meet his contract demands?
-
Jerry West must be spinning in his grave.

Holy fuck, that's not just a steal, it's a public raping. The Lakers just put themselves firmly in the title mix.

Do you not agree that 9/11 changed everything? It changed everything.

Man, I'd hate to be a White Sox fan. Bad GM. Bad team. Bad marketing. Ughh.

They won't. Cena will either retain at Mania or they'll do a non-finish at NWO and save the title change for Mania. -

But we all know that HHH is going to job to Cena at Mania. Why not get a short title reign in there instead of re-doing the whole WM 22 main event? -

Didnt Bret defend againts Hakushi in a PPV main event though... Bret faught Hakushi in an undercard match at one of the In Your House PPVs in '95. -
Red Sox sign Sean Casey to a one year, $700,000 contract. That's a good signing for a bench player. Casey gets on base, has a little pop, plays adequate defense and can hit lefties. Exactly what the team needed, although I would have preferred Brad Wilkerson.
