Gagne's hurt. I'm sure of it. -
I don't know that you'd want Willis. The last two seasons have kind of soured me on him. His walks are going completely in the wrong direction. Willis looks like a #4 starter on a good team. He's all name recognition at this point. Maybe a good pitching coach could turn him around but his peripherals suggest that his best years are already behind him.

What happened to Sabathia's control? -
I saw that earlier and forgot to comment on it. I can't believe that they'd axe one of the best pitching coaches in the game. I know that the staff hasn't been great the last two years, but he got a lot of mileage out of Bedard, Loewen and Guthrie. I figure that Trembley wants to bring in his own guy, which makes some sense, but shit like this is why the team finishes in 4th place every year.

Someone turn on a fan. George Mitchell has some shit he wants to hurl at it.

From Tammy's mouth, they were just friends. Shawn was the one who had the affair with Sunny. Well there was the incident at a recent autograph signing where Sunny was running around screaming that she was the best pussy that Bret ever had. -

Dice-K's ERA by each month: 4.36, 5.22, 1.59, 3.62, 4.45, 7.62 It wasn't really a first half/second half thing. It looks like it took him a month or two to adjust to the league, got into a groove for the summer and then just burned out by the end. I think that was to be expected in year one because of the transition to a longer season and 5-man rotations. I think he'll be better prepared next year. Matsuzaka ened up with the 40th best VORP among pitchers, making him a good #2 starter. They are playing the hot hand with Schilling right now, but there's a reason he's going to leave in free agency this year without much of an offer from Boston and Dice-K is the $100 million man. -
I don't know about that, but I noticed that last week's episode didn't feature Kyle or Kenny at all. Kenny, Kyle, Butters and Cartman were absent from this week's episode as well. Not sure if this something they've always done or not, but it appears they are rotating the stories through the various characters they've set up over the years.

Did you really call Daisuke Shit-K? I know he got tired at the end of the year, but isn't that a little harsh? He still has excellent stuff and the extra rest is going to help him. You know why people hate Red Sox fans? They think their $100 million #2 starter sucks. -
Well fuck that was unexpected, I figured he'd stick around at least a couple of more years. I thought it was well-known that this was his last season. A lot of people speculated that he cleaned out the farm system for Teixeira because he wanted to win it all in his last season. What does this mean for Cox? Does he end up on the list for possible Yankees replacement?

The bullpen is excellent and all of the starting pitchers are above average. They lack the ace or Cy candidate that gives credibility to a rotation, but top to bottom they have one of the best staffs in the league. -
nigga please... I totally busted up laughing when I read that. Who gets that emotional over a wrestling match?

I think everyone comes off poorly. It was stupid to send Atlas in when he knows nothing of the product, it was wrong for Punk to be a dick and it was outright ludicrous for OVW officials to let the situation get out of hand. -
A-Rod will break hits record, surpass 1,000 HRs and be worth a half-billion dollars, says Boras The wheels have already started turning on A-Rod's free agency. Boras is using a level of hyperbole here that is even ridiculous for him.

Let me rephrase what I said earlier about the young pitchers. It's not that they lack the ability to pitch in the majors, it's just the lumps that come with having them in the rotation. They lack the efficiency to go deep into games, meaning that most nights you'll get five or six innings out of them. That makes middle relief incredibly important and that hasn't been a strong suit for the team recently. Second, you don't want to overwork these guys. At best they'll go 20-30 innings over what they did this year. That might cause problems for a stretch playoff run when fatigue injuries start popping up or the team has to shut the pitchers down for the year. We saw this at the start of the year with Minnesota and the handling of their star young pitchers. I also know that Theo has quietly said that the Sox won't start the year with Lester and Buchholz in the rotation. It's just too much to ask of a team, especially the Yankees.
-
Hughes, Chamberlain and Kennedy are all fantastic young pitchers, but isn't a little risky to break them all in at once? Most teams try to avoid even two rookies in a rotation. Yes, I know they aren't technically rookies, but they've never been stretched out for a full season of major league work. That could be incredibly taxing to the bullpen and leave them in big trouble if one of the young guys doesn't adjust properly. I don't think Torre will be back. He's 67 years old and his contract's up. It makes sense for both sides to end the relationship. They'll pick up Abreu's option and make every effort to resign Posada and Rivera. The problem is those guys are going to make a fortune in free agency, probably even more than they are worth. Will Cashman be willing to go three years, maybe more, for guys on the downside of their career?

Yes, but he did so much for the industry...he gave it everything he had every night...so many people loved him Yes, he went through losts of drug abuse, yes he did have some severe personal problems in his life, yes he did end up dying in the end, but he did overcome his problems I think a lot of people would beg to differ with your opinion Well you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I don't think we need to pay tribute to or honor Eddie Guerrero. He's a cautionary tale, not a hero to the industry.
-
#235. Let's honor Eddie Guerrero for dying young even though it was completely his fault.

It's going under the radar, but Mack Strong is retiring. One of the more underrated players of this generation and a big part of Shaun Alexander's record-breaking season two years ago. He didn't play the sexiest position on the field, but he was one of the best at it. Sad to see him go.

The Detroit Tigers exercised their 2008 option on Pudge Rodriguez for $13 million. Pudge doesn't have much left in the tank, but he's the symbolic leader of that team and there is nothing on the free agent market in the way of catching talent. Slight thumbs up, I guess.
-
The lead article on the main page on espn.com is Howard Bryant discussing how last night was the end of the Yankees dynasty. I'm sorry, but the "dynasty" ended in November of 2001. I understand that the tone of the article expressed a symbolic end because it might be the last time Torre, Rivera, etc. are with the team, but I'd wager good money that next year's team won't look a whole lot different and they end up right back in the playoffs.

I'm not sure how much tribute is necessary for a guy who died at a ridiculously young age because of a lifetime of drug, alcohol, pain pill and steroid abuse.
