Beefcake is lying. Warrior was the hottest act they had in the summer of 1988 and McMahon decided to cash in by giving him the win over Honky. The Beefcake feud had sort of lost its heat by the time the event came and they decided it was no longer a good idea to have him go over. I just don't see any scenario where he ends up with the title.

Hasn't TNA claimed that they don't have the financial resources to do independent testing? We all know that's a load of crap, but if they start instituting testing things will change quickly. That company's been a haven for drug abusers.

Favorite Crowd Reactions to Face/Heel Turns?
Cheech Tremendous replied to zappafrank's topic in General Wrestling
That was probably the first time I marked out for a heel turn. Cornette dumping the Dudes to return to the Midnight Express was so perfect, even it was supposed to be a dastardly act. Great stuff. -
The only thing the fans wouldn't have shat on for a HBK opponent at WM XIV was probably The Undertaker. Just get rid of The Undertaker-HBK match at Royal Rumble '98 so fans wouldn't have gotten sick of it. The Undertaker finally getting his comeuppance on HBK might have had a shot at working. Rock and Triple H weren't ready. I don't think Ken Shamrock had enough charisma for anybody to buy him as a main eventer and Foley wasn't really taken serious as a surefire main eventer until late '98. Maybe the WWF would freak after their future superstar's career is ended and sign The Warrior or Sid. I think Montreal was going to happen whether or not AUstin had a career ending injury or not. You're assuming in this scenario that Bret doesn't stay in the company and Montreal still happens. Letting go of Bret was partially a by-product of the new Austin era and emergence of a new babyface. Had Austin gone down permanently at Summerslam, there's a better than average chance that McMahon would have freaked and kept Bret around. A babyface turn and feud with Michaels culminating at Mania would have been a likely scenario. With regards to Owen, he probably would have been worse off. Austin never really held him down, he just refused to work a program with him. It's not like Owen had any future main event runs in him by mid-97. Without the culmination of the Austin feud and the babyface run to avenge Montreal, he probably would have meandered along like he did in the Nation/Blue Blazer days.

I don't think they planned to turn Bret until well into the Austin feud. He was supposed to return as the triumphant babyface and win the title shortly into his run. However, McMahon quickly realized that the company had changed and so had the crowds. The white bread babyface didn't really work anymore and the decision was made to do the double turn with Austin. It was already said earlier, but I don't think that there was any plan going forward. It seemed like they were going to do a DX reunion but it was probably just an angle to kick off Smackdown. As for a potential program between the two? Highly unlikely. Michaels had no plans to return at this time and we all know the Rock's feeling on working with HBK. Never would have happened.

That's the rumor, but I don't know what roster moves they'll make to get him on the roster. I think they can shift Donnelly to the 60-day DL, which opens up a spot on the 40 man roster. But from there it gets complicated, especially since they need to make a spot for Kielty by the end of the week or his contract voids. Presumably they send down Lester or DFA one of Hinske or Snyder. Trading Pena is also a possibility. I'm excited to see Buchhholz in the bigs. Baseball America, Baseball Prospecuts and Project Prospect all had him rated ahead of the great Joba. With the exception of Bailey, he's the best pitching prospect in baseball.

I got Dirk and Jason Kidd.

Don't come in here trying to push your own agenda, you media attention whore!

And to make things worse, if Booty sucks too bad, they won't have Mark Sanchez to fall back on. Isn't Booty considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in the nation? Why would you expect him to suck?

I heard that they've supplemented their normal Gatorade/water with chocolate milk. Wonder if that will help them.

It could be interesting. No one around here has much hope.

Eugene and Salem offer about 300,000 people, but that's not really significant when you realize that there is no population base on the coast and nothing really to the east until you get to Bend. It's just a geographical problem that is compounded by the fact that Seattle controls the entire PacNW fan base. There was an article abour a year ago on Baseball Prospectus that broke down about 20 cities and how viable they are for major league franchises. Portland scored highly in some area (local wealth, stadium chances, etc.) but bad in potential revenue streams (television and attendance) for the reasons I already outlined. Any success that Portland would have financially would come at the expense of Seattle. It's not tapping a new fan base, it's weakening the existing one by bifurcating it into two sects (Portland and Seattle). I kind of lost faith after that and I've been a long-time supporter for the cause.

Kuselias was awesome on the Sports Bash, but they seem content with keeping him on that stupid NASCAR show. And as much as I do like him, he might not be good for the mass audience that DP appealed to. Cowherd, on the other hand, is awful. He seems to have very limited knowledge of sports outside of college football so he tries to fill time with jokes and pop culture talk. The problem is he's not very funny or capable of sounding socially relevant. It just seems like he's trying too hard and it's extremely annoying. Kenny would be the best if they are trying to keep the flavor of Dan's show. He's knowledgeable and good with guests. Would probably need a good co-host (re: not Screamin A.) to get him through three hours as he can meander a bit.
-
Still nothing official for a Dan Patrick replacement. Names that are supposedly in the running: Cowherd Tirico Van Pelt Screamin A. Brian Kenny Dan Lebetard Out of that group, I'd be most happy with Kenny or Lebetard, altough I've never heard Lebetard on the radio.

The problem with a baseball team in Portland is that radio/tv rights in the area already belong to the Mariners and there is no population base to the east, west or south to draw from for attendance. Believe me, I would absolutely love to have a team in Portland and I think the town would support them, but the numbers don't really pencil out to have a viable franchise here long-term. This all applies to the NFL as well.

It's not like I expect them to win it just because espn says so. I was just curious as to where this whole "USC is going to have a down year" thing is coming from because I don't see it.
-
FWIW, all 12 of espn.com's experts predicted USC to win the BCS Championship this year. I don't know where some you are getting this "down year" thing from.

He replaced Howard Stern in our market. He's not great, but he's come into his own as a radio personality. I like him well enough.

-The Yankees have pulld Kei Igawa off waivers, effectively ending any trade possibility to San Diego. -The Red Sox are apparently very close to sending Wily Mo to a National League team. Bobby Kielty, who is 7 for his last 20 (2 HRs) is expecting a call-up as soon as something is worked out

It was when shades of gray booking was all the rage. Everyone was playing a tweener at that time. Even Sid didn't go full blown heel until right before Royal Rumble.

I already made a comment in the other thread, but I am just sick of hearing about another wrestling death every week. It's just so depressing. -
