Thread for those over the age of 25.

It won't matter if you die early... you're already missing out on all fun stuff. -
Those last couple Bulls teams were having a tough time with Utah and Indiana. I think the '01 Lakers, '03 Spurs or '04 Pistons probably could have taken them. The Spurs especially would have had mismatches all over the floor against the Bulls. It's not their fault that they looked unspectacular on their way to the championship... they were that much better than everyone else.

People were saying it was retaliation for the shot to Jeter. If that's so, it was still dirty but at least he was being a man and sticking up for a teammate. It's not quite the Slap v 2.0. By the way, here's the play, in case you missed it (paste into your browser). Nice of ARod to pick on the 5'7" guy. mms://a1503.v108692.c10869.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/10869/v0001/mlb.download.akamai.com/10869/2007/open/tp/archive05/052207_bosnya_rodriguez_elbow_tp_350.wmv?ct3=5090684&ct4=mlb&ct5=23-May-07

Well, they had a perfectly good sucker (Isiah Thomas) last year and the owner vetoed the trade.

Julian Tavarez can start, he does it every year in winter league. People just assume that the only baseball occurs in the majors. No one said he couldn't start. It's just that he generally sucks when he does.

what's the word on him? a shot in the dark? as good as Yao? potential to be better than Yao? don't believe the hype? I read somewhere today that they think he's actually 22 and not the 19 that he claims he is. If so, he goes from top 5 pick to project first rounder. The biggest knock against him is how raw and inconsistent his game is. Not a problem for someone 19... different story for someone 22.

I may have to get Blazers season tickets now instead of my customary one game per season. And I think the city of Boston just collectively shat their pants. Good tank job guys.

The Lakers run from 2000-2002 produced the worst ratings in twenty years, although they have gotten even worse since then. The Mets-Yankees in 2000 was a disaster as well. Pitt-Seattle, I believe is the most watched Super Bowl ever. There are a lot of factors that go into the success of a league. It doesn't hurt to have the big boys be good, but I hardly think the fate of the league depends on it.

The reason that some people say it's a myth is because the NFL is the most successful sports organization in the United States and it is completely product driven. It doesn't matter where the teams come from because it's the name that sells. I don't see why the NBA and MLB can't create the same situation in their respective leagues.
-
The idea that the NBA would rig the lottery is absolutely preposterous.

Oh, they didn't even put in the best part from that interview. Portis says that dog fighting isn't illegal, to which the interviewer responds that it's actually a felony. Without missing a beat, Portis says that if so, it's not that bad of a felony. Not that bad of a felony?

I don't know what websensed means, but I'm outraged anyways.

That's the thing with the knuckleball. There are days when he just can't locate it at all. Can't Rick Sutcliffe assault Erin Andrews at an Outback or something so I don't have to hear him anymore? He was absolutely brutal tonight.

So it looks like Roger Clemens will be making his season debut next Monday against the Blue Jays instead of the first week of June against the Red Sox. Perhaps even more interesting is that his last minor league start will be this Wednesday against the Sox' AA squad. Who will be matched up against Clemens... Boston uber-prospect Clay Buchholz.

These guys need a lesson in booking 101. They always get things about half right while missing the big picture at the same time. It does make sense for Michaels to get a big win and it does make sense for a guy leaving the territory to do a big job on the way out. But you never job your world champion out to a non-contender, especially when they are just starting their run with the belt. That kills all the momentum Edge had right out of the gate. Stupid.

Has anyone read any good baseball books lately? I need a couple to pass the summer months.

I don't know about 7 footers, but TD IS the best PF to ever play the game and is the best player of the post-Jordan era (or 1B behind Shaq). He has never gotten the respect he deserves because he's quiet and not marketable. Duncan deserves every superlative the announcers give him. I know they are boring, but the Spurs hate is getting a little out of hand.

Sarah Connor Chronicles
Cheech Tremendous replied to The Niggardly King's topic in Television & Film
Which is right after Simpsons and Family Guy, right? That's a damn good timeslot, if you ask me. -
Quoted for truth. I didn't see the show, but Meltzer seemed to imply that this match wasn't very good. He also said the crowd wasn't into it.
-
So, according to MLB, I'm supposed to hate the Braves because they played in Boston like 50 years ago?
-
Favre is such a dick. He said that he didn't go to mini-camp because it (camp) isn't that fun. All he needed was a "We talkin bout practice."

Jeff Van Gundy was fired by the Houston Rockets today. Rick Adelman is the expected replacement. Not sure I understand this move. I know they lost in the first round again, but it was to a better team in 7 games. They still won 52 this year, which is the best they've done in as long as I can remember. I know a lot of the fanbase doesn't like his micromanaging style, but he still got a lot of mileage out of that roster.
-
Out of curiosity, is there anyone else here that hates interleague play? I feel like I'm in the minority on this one.
-
Not me. He's not on the 40-man roster, which means they would have had to DFA someone (or I guess move Clement to the 60-day DL). Plus why start the arb clock on Buchholz just for a spot start? Gabbard, Hansack and Pauley have all done well enough in AAA that we don't need to rush the best prospect in the system.
-
I wasn't implying that he was no longer a prospect, just pointing out that he had a rough pro debut. One year might not be much, but if you tack on a second year of underperformance things might start looking a little dicey. For the record, a lot of scouts had tempered down expectations for him after last year and his rough patch in the early spring. It's nice to see him hitting again.
