Are you sure he didn't hurt his vagina?
-
Anyone remember fanofcoils? I'm getting a case of deja vu.
-
I can't believe there are some people out there defending his comments because he was being honest. I didn't know it was cool to be a hate monger as long as you admit it. Come to think of it, why are were giving the KKK so much flack? At least they're being honest on how they feel about black people.

Did anyone hear about the particulars of the JD Drew contract? Beyond the ability to void years 4 and 5 of the deal if he hurts his shoulder again, if Drew misses any significant time due to injuries they can defer the guaranteed money off the back end of his deal until 2030! In addition, the limited no-trade clause that he got is quite hilarious. How limited is it? The Red Sox get to choose up to 28 teams that cannot be voided. Wow, Boras got raked over the coals on this one. I guess it's karma for the whole Philly nonsense all those years ago. While I like Drew as a player, I also read that he is on a special diet where he only eats foods that were mentioned in the Bible. He also has a hyperbaric chamber and has had special implants in his cellphones and other electronics to block radiation. I kid you not. What a nutjob.

It would start this year, altough Tim Kurkjian said today in his chat that he didn't think the agreement was necessarily a done deal yet. I know MLB likes to backpedal when they upset a large amount of people, so maybe we'll get another year. In other news, Barry Bonds finally signed his contract today.

I don't really understand posters like totally crazy. Do they get off on seeing how much they can annoy before getting banned, or are they just generally that stupid?

I said that they have plenty of respectable arms (guys I see as future major leaguers), but nothing beyond Hughes with top of the rotation stuff. Sanchez probably profiles more as a bullpen guy and Chamberlain has had weight and injury issues that could derail him. I'm just not sold that they have the best pitching, although they are near the top.

Too much '04-'05 stuff. I don't think #'s 42-44 were particularly great moments, at least with regards to all the great things that have happened on Raw the past 10-15 years.

I think that most of that upside projection comes from Hughes, who now seems to be the consensus top pitching prospect. They have a lot of respectable arms in the system, but I don't see any of them being impact guys. Hughes may be getting too much praise these days for his own good. Yankees fans are going to expect a lot out of this guy right away, and well since TINSTAAP and all, it's probably only 50/50 he becomes something special.

Bunkhouse Buck was Jimmy Golden, who had a fair amount of success teaming with Robert Fuller (Col. Parker) in the NWA territories. He was fairly old by the time he got to WCW in the mid-90s.

As a matter of contrast to the Baseball America rankings that I posted several weeks back, here is Baseball Prospectus' team prospect rankings. Same teams near the top and bottom, but the middle group has shifted around considerably. I think the main difference is rooted in the argument of depth versus upside. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5870

I used to like Timmy, but what an ignorant fuck.

And if he gets 150 that would have to put Johan at about $500 million Zambrano, if he has a 2007 similar to his 2006, will likely get a $200 million deal. Santana would be in line for the same if he were a free agent.

Hey Czech, is it making you nervous yet that everyone seems to be picking the Cubs to win the division? That can't be good karma for that team.

PECOTA projections for AL 3B. That would be quite a drop in production for ARod over the past couple years, and that's a ridicuolous projection for Gordon. I know the system always over projects on prospects, but still, the Royals may have a legit superstar right out of the gate. In other news that won't mean much to anyone, Lenny DiNardo was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics. He never did much of anything in Boston, but I still think he could be a decent pitcher in the right environment. The A's will probably give him a shot at the rotation.

An All-Star game without Jason Kidd or Steve Nash doesn't sound like much fun. You need a distributor out there with all those shooters.

For all the talk about how crappy the Texans are, I would say they are a lot closer than a lot of other teams in the league. The defense is coming along and the skill positions are okay. Just get an O-line and ignore the media. Young and Bush are in the past. Don't let that dictate where you take this team.

I'm sure there is, but I haven't found one yet. If I do, I'll provide the link.

There are some crazy names being thrown around for the Chargers job: Dick Vermeil, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Bill Cowher... I don't think any of those guys are even remote possibilities. If I were to wager a guess, if they don't go the easy route with Rivera or Caldwell they'll take a look at Mike Martz, Steve Mariucci, Norv Turner, Dan Reeves and Jim Haslett . It's a sensible move to go for a retread with some experience.

I think the fact that he is already citing the Zito deal means that he is looking for comparable money. He wants to get paid, plain and simple. If the Cubs get off to a bad start next year and don't have Zambrano locked up, I wonder if they would deal him at the deadline. I think he would bring back a couple of good prospects for a team that needs starting pitching (which last time I checked was everyone).
-
He's going to want 7 or 8 years though. I have no doubt he will be great in 2010, but he will laugh his way to free agency if you offer him just 3 or 4 years.

Here are some excerpts from the MIT Sports Business Conference. The panel included Rob Neyer, Jamie McCourt, JP Ricciardi and Bill James, who are generally regarded as some of the brightest minds in the business. Although there is nothing ground breaking here, I am glad that the Sox ended up with Theo instead of Ricciardi. He's done a fair job in Toronto (heck, he won more games last year on a smaller budget) but he doesn't seem to have a great baseball mind. There seems to be too much old time chicanery in his quotes for someone supposedly into the statistical revolution.

Although personally I don't think much of Soriano as a player, I would never give a big, long-term deal to a pitcher. There are too many variables to assess, whereas you generally know what you're getting out of Soriano for the next 5 years.

If Barry Zito can get $126 million, I shudder to think what Carlos Zambrano might get. He might get $150.

Why does she need a gun? She's already got a pair of bazookas.
