  1. I want to see the hockey season start up again so I can see the Manhattan Rangers battle the Uniondale Islanders or the East Rutherford Devils.

Well, at least my Landover Redskins won yesterday though why they changed away from a perfectly good Raljon Redskins moniker, I'll never know. Stupid Snyder.

  2. Thanks for posting, Hunter's Torn Quad. :)

An update on Dwayne Johnson, who is still in Prague, Czechoslovakia filming a movie. He is planning on wrestling at WrestleMania in Los Angeles and hopes the company comes up with a good storyline for his return. He's been studying 70s and 80s wrestling videotapes during his down time, in particular the old Memphis, Dallas and Portland territories. "I absolutely love it," he said. "The ideas I'm getting from them are amazing. Creativity plus simplicity (for the fans to easily absorb) plus passion equals success. . .

Who the fuck is Dwayne Johnson? Nobody cares about him;call him the Rock damnit. He's even billed as such for his movies.

Shame that it says that he's probably not going to be spending much time on the shows though. Blah.

Well, Meltzer still believes there is a country called Czechoslovakia.

The man knows his wrestling for sure but really needs to have a different set of eyes proofread these things.

  3. So 24's premiering with a 2-hour Sunday ep, and having another hour the next day? I'm not sure I like that.

They did the same last year.

If I remember correctly, the 3rd season premiere ran one hour without commercials in its regular Tuesday slot. There was one original episode shown on a Sunday later in the season after the scheduled Tuesday airing was axed by a presidential speech.

  4. Because, you know, the shows will automatically get better if they're on a different channel.

    Actually, that's not necessarily true.

I forgot who it was, but a person overlooked the WWF writers in 2000, when the show was at it's peak. I believe it was a lady, but I can't recall her name.

And USA promoted Raw better than Spike TV/TNN did.

There was a producer for USA that helped Raw, but I think she left the network before Raw did.

I believe the person in question is named Bonnie Hammer. She eventually became president of Sci Fi Channel.

Of some note, Hammer is now president of USA Network as well, the additional responsibilities added as part of the NBC Universal merger. Things do tend to move full circle, it seems.

  5. RAW will explore the challenges Hassan and Daivari face as Hassan tries to make his mark as a new WWE Superstar under the guidance of Daivari as his manager.

Jeez, WWE makes this sounds like an Islamic version of "Amish in the City".

Somehow, I doubt it will be actually be depicted that way.

The fact that these characters will make their television debut during Ramadan seems especially intended to provoke controversy, much like the idea for the characters in the first place.

  6. WWE.com has all the voting stats (in percentages) for the matches that already happened. Here is the IC list:

    Batista 20.11 %

    Shelton Benjamin 37.48 %

    Christian 6.69 %

    Coach 7.01 %

    The Hurricane 3.77 %

    Rodney Mack 0.58 %

    Maven 4.23 %

    Chuck Palumbo 0.68 %

    William Regal 3.81 %

    Rhyno 5.77 %

    Steven Richards 2.24 %

    Rosey 1.10 %

    Tajiri 2.36 %

    Tyson Tomko 2.49 %

    Val Venis 1.69 %

This vote count must make Rodney "Mr. 0.58" Mack feel really special.

  7. Well if Michaels wins the poll, they could just have Edge attack him out of jealousy before the match starts, then have Benoit fight HHH.

The problem is that the whole perceived credibility of this PPV concept is completely shot if the "voters' choice" doesn't wrestle as advertised.

Edit: Assuming Michaels really is legit hurt, WWE should probably just go with the honest approach, remove Michaels from the ballot citing the injury and let fans who already voted for Michaels do a revote for Edge or Benoit.

  8. yeah for what? Amish in the City 2?

    Probably.

Amish in the City and America's Next Top Model both do better ratings than Smackdown, have more of a mainstream buzz and don't have the negative stigma that Wrestling has.

Not really in the case of the former. "Amish in the City" fell off sharply in ratings after a strong opening. "America's Next Top Model" is still doing okay.

I wouldn't be surprised though if "WWE Smackdown" does get cancelled. The negative stigma among ad buyers is real. UPN just can't get the ad money for "WWE Smackdown" that it can now get for other shows with equivalent ratings.

  9. PWInsider.com followup

PWInsider's Dave Scherer talked to the writer of The Hollywood Reporter story. The word relayed was that the Turner and Fox groups are "not seriously interested" in a WWE deal. USA is the only outside player of interest at this point.

I don't doubt that the Turner stations have no interest in this. WWE doesn't really fit well in either the TNT drama format or the TBS comedy/reality format.

  10. FROM JAY...

Last Comic Standing is cancelled!!! This is shocking news to me too.  I woke up on Wednesday morning and recieved the news. NBC was not happy with the rating of the show and decided to pull the plug.  Keep in mind there is only one episode left and on that episode we were going to ANNOUNCE THE WINNER!  Amazing.  Why would a network cancel a show with only one episode left?  There is some back history that makes this more ridiculous.  As Last Comic Standing 2 was wrapping up this summer, the network told us that they wanted a "hybrid version" of Last Comic to put on the fall schedule.  They said that they simply didn't have enough shows for the fall slate and needed a quick fix.  My partner Peter Engel as well as other producers like Barry Katz, Cori Fry, K.P. Anderson and my self thought that this was a bad idea.  We argued that having a seperate version of Last Comic so soon after season 2 concluded would burn the audience out and damage the franchise.  Well the network insisted we move forward and we came up with "LCS Battle of thge Best".  Season 1 versus season 2 for a prize of 250 thosand bucks.  (It seems like Fox hands out a million dollar prizes on its reality shows like its lunch).  Last Comic Standing The Battle Of The Best hit the airwaves in the fall and guess what?  The ratings were down.  The ratings stayed pretty consistent all season with around eight million viewers but that didn't stop NBC from hitting the panic button.  The biggest question I have is why would you wait until the final episode to pull the plug.  I feel terrible for the comics.  We had a great final four with Alonzo Bodden, Rich Vos, Dave Mordal (my favorite) and John Heffron.  These four comics are not involved with network bussines or standards and practices but it is they who will suffer the most from this terrible decision by The Nation Broadcasting Company.  I have to stop typing now because I have to go TiVo Father Of The Pride.

FWIW, the NBC site says the LCS3 winner will be announced during a "Father of the Pride" marathon next Tuesday. What a complete crapout!

  11. No, it's exactly the writers fault.  It's their job to know these things and to write around them.  If the wrestlers and fans know about it there's no reason why the writers shouldn't.

Considering it is WWE, the writers may not have to know about even Attitude-era pro wrestling as part of their job. The fault for glitches like this starts at the top.

  12. This show is going to take a hit anyway with the Colts/Patriots game tomorrow night.

...not to mention the launchings of "Joey" (i.e. the "Friends" spinoff) and the new season of "The Apprentice". Smackdown will almost certainly do worse in ratings than two weeks ago.

  13. I had taped RAW..so I rewatched it earlier...and you may can actually see it happen, (Seeing as Christy did do that shit kind of hard :P), but afterwards Amy is clapping...and standing there like an idiot...so if she really did break it, you wouldn't have known..

    Like an idiot?

Sorry, that was just too easy.
