Gammons just said that "IF" the trade happens, it will be Friday morning, thanks for getting my hopes up Pete. Gammons is iffy in these situations, now look for Benson to get dealt to the Braves or something
-
Okay, espn.com is saying Benson deal is not done yet, and may go all the way to the Saturday deadline. But Gammons said on BTN that it was just about final and could be announced tonight. Okay ESPN, which is it?
-
Gammons just said on BTN that the Mets have traded Ty Wigginton and Matt Peterson to the Pirates for Benson. Somehow the White Sox are getting involved in this. If the Mets can't extend Benson, I don't understand this trade. Al, I'm calling on your baseball expertise here, is this a good move for the Mets?

Eric Valent, of all people, hits for the cycle today as the Mets beat the Expos 10-1. The 8th cycle in the history of the Mets, first since John Olerud in 1997
-
and in a no-brainer, the Mets officially release Shane Spencer today.

My God, the Phils are already losing 8-0 to the Fish, how can Bowa possibly keep his job now?

well Loss, 99 wasn't so great for WCW either. 99 WCW sort of reminded me of the situation in wrestling in the late 80s/early 90s. The WWF was so popular in the 80s and early 90s with the cartoon gimmicks and big guys slowly pounding on each other in the main events. The NWA had much better wrestling, but was clearly WAY behind the WWF in financial/popularity terms. So in order to compete they thought they had to be like the WWF, and thus the gimmick explosion in early 90s WCW. In 99, the situation was the same as WCW still was putting on better in-ring wrestling than WWF, but was getting killed business wise. So the brass at WCW thought they had to be like the WWF to compete and thus Russo was hired at the end of 99. It was a real tough situation for them as they knew they couldn't overcome the WWF without making changes, but at the same time how could they mirror the Sports Entertainment model without pissing of the loyal WCW fan base? They were in a lose/lose situation.

Along with what Curry said, another emotional moment is when Nancy, his parents, and children come to the ring to celebrate after WM 20. Benoit and Eddy both said they were legit tears in the ring that night. The line that sums up the journey that Benoit took comes in the Wild Pegasus v Black Tiger match from 94 when Malenko says "who could have imagined 10 years later and these guys would both be world champions"
-
Another interesting thing is that Benoit was a star football player at his school. I'm suprised that Jim Ross doesn't spout that out every chance he gets on Raw. They love to talk about guys that played football

I would add Jeter to that list. He's a very good player, but is not an all time great.

Mets release Scott Erickson. Thank God. Shane Spencer has been suspended indefinitely for his DUI charge.

Damn, Marlins beat the Phillies again, Fish are 9-1 against the Phils this year. Tom Glavine wins his first game since June 13, as the Mets win for the first time in a week, beating the Expos tonight. Did anybody see the pre-game brawl between the Rangers and Angels? Just heard about it on the radio, what happened?

Just got the DVD, first time I've seen Benoit/Regal from the Pillman show and it's tremendous. It's also the first time I've seen Benoit's ECW work, and it's weird to see a clean shaven Al Snow looking about 14 yrs. old and Benoit with long wavy hair. On the negative side, Todd Grisham KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT WRESTLING and should have never been chosen to do the commentary. He mispronounced Liger's name and made some terrible mistakes, like saying Japanese wrestling is just like Lucha Libre. Malenko seemed more comfortable than Benoit doing the commentary and had some great one liners. It's been great so far.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY can't stand Ted Robinson, the lead TV announcer for the Mets. He shows no passion whatsoever for the game of baseball. I understand being a professional, unbiased announcer, but this guy seems like he would rather be debating the effectiveness of Marxism in 1950's China than calling a baseball game. I'm not asking for a blatant homer or cheerleader, but show some passion and emotion. His tone never changes, whether it's the top of the 1st or the botton of the 9th with the winning runs on base. After every game he announces, I wish I could ask him "Ted, do you actually, ya know, LIKE baseball?

Mets getting blown out in Montreal, the slide is here. They will be 4 under and falling after tonight.
-
looks like the Phils and Marlins are going to play one of their patented back and forth high scoring games
-
Does anyone know why Chavo Senior is so bitter? I heard he didn't save his money and had to become a taxi driver in Vegas. He got a gift run in WWE this year and he blew it. He seems like his worst enemy, not 87 yr. old ex-wrestling bookers.

no hitter over, Barrett doubles in the 9th for the Cubs
-
Mets 1. Joe McEwing- Can play ever position, but can't hit any pitcher 2. John Franco- JUST RETIRE. If if he faces a patient hitter who won' t leave the zone to chase his "dead fish" change up, he gets rocked. MLB players can actually hit an 84 MPH fastball over the plate, John. 3. Mike Stanton- Has nothing left. His ERA looks respectable but he is often wild and gives up too many homeruns for a relief pitcher. Almost never can throw his curve ball for a strike anymore, which renders it meaningless.

Yankees are bitching because the Red Sox changed their mind on cancelling the game today. Supposedly they were "already on the team bus" when they got called back.
