The Best Sports Movie of All Time
strummer replied to foleyfanforever88's topic in Television & Film
Don't forget Bateman. Plus Robert Loggia and Hector Elizondo rule it. I love that God Damn movie. -
yeah when I was in college I used to read Wrestlecrap all the time in the computer labs in between classes. It was great to relive all the gimmicks that I grew up on and laugh at RD's stuff. In fact I remember the day Merle commited suicide, it was a Friday in September 2000. Shocked the hell out of me Then RD turned into a jaded smark and started taking the site way too seriously and I stopped visiting. I think the last time I was there was maybe 04'

Whats the first pay per view you saw live?
strummer replied to Frankie Williams's topic in General Wrestling
First PPV Live: WM 3 (I had seen 1 and 2 on tape) Attended: I had tickets to No Mercy 2000 but real sick a couple days before and couldn't attend -
And throw in a million cool points for a reference to "The Lottery", a short story written in the 1950s. I didn't really find the episode that funny but that's obviously not what they were going for. Very surreal. Great episode.

Nice to see Siena (my alma mater) make it to the tournament. They have one career tournament win (against Stanford in 89/also beat them earlier this season). I don't expect them to beat Vandy obviously but they could hang with them because they can shoot the 3 and run the fast break pretty damn well for a mid major. Believe me this will be huge in Albany on Friday night. They are the number one draw around here. I'm only a casual College basketball fan during the season but I love the tournament

I think it was just that I couldn't stand Tina's writing style anymore or her complete control of the show. I can't believe she actually came back for another season after that mess.
-
This might be sacreligious, but I think 94-95 was better than 04-05. 04-05 was the worst season I've seen since I started watching the show (87-88)

Much better than last week. And Jim Downey!!!! in the Digital Short

Let's Talk About... The 1993 Survivor Series
strummer replied to LivingLegendGaryColeman's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah the first thing that comes to mind about this show is how awesome Bobby Heenan was on commentary. The peak obviously coming during the Harts v HBK/Knights match where he gets some unbelievable lines off on Stu and Helen. His last great performance -
Sandler, Apatow and Seth are working together:

Let's Talk About..........The Natural Born Thrillers

IIRC, he couldn't get through a live promo without laughing. The only time I remember seeing the character used was when he convinced Dawn Marie to flash the crowd on Smackdown because she was "distraught" over Torrie being picked for Playboy over her. (edit: eh, it was either that or she was mad about not being chosen for the Girls Gone Wild PPV) -

Seth so wrote that Clemens sketch. The "Stat geeks" line was probably a nod to his friend "Ken Tremendous"
-
Seth is trying too hard to be like Norm but that was a great update. Best of the season so far.
-
Okay that Super Tuesday joke by Calhoun nearly saved the show for me. Didn't really like anything pre-update

Basketball to the nuts has happened to me several times. During freshman Orientation in college (summer of 97) we were doing some lame "teamwork"/"peer leader" game (something to do with running relays and a volleyball or something) and I got a real bad cramp in my leg. So bad that I thought I had a broken leg. I fell to the ground in front of my entire team and temporarily stopped the game. Once cut my finger pretty bad trying to open up a can of nacho cheese. It drew blood. Think this was in Junior High. About 92 or so. Sliced open my leg trying to climb a fence in my back yard

I had a friend in High School who was cousins with Michael Patrick Jann from "The State" on MTV. Met him at a graduation party. Said he was looking into directing a feature film after years of directing commercials. He would later direct "Drop Dead Gorgeous" with Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, etc. I think I mentioned this before but I saw Sherri Martel jump in a limo with Hulk Hogan after a House Show in Albany. That was confusing as a mark.

I've come to the conclusion that all the old timey baseball people just hate walking. I have no idea why but you can tell they view it as an annoyance with all the "Swing da' bat will ya'" hyperbole. The "modern"/sabermetric community is never going to win this argument no matter how many Ken Tremendous types keep fighting

I will agree that the ending of the sketch, with Page running her hands through Samberg's hair followed by the hug was a great moment. It really was "sweet" (as sweet as an SNL sketch can be). The audience's clapping, not necessarily laughing at the end also made it seem poignant
-
That lesbian sketch might be the most surreal sketch in the history of the show. The fact that Paula Pell of all people wrote it makes it even more bizarre. There's been a debate about whether Page came out of the closet last night and after re-watching the sketch it's pretty obvious she did And like I said in the other thread Page was not ready to host the show. Her impressions were terrible, she couldn't maintain the accents she was supposed to have and seemed nervous.
-
Ellen Page didn't seem to be able to maintain her accents (especially in the Dakota Fanning and Kenan black woman sketches) or totally get into her characters last night. The writing was poor but she seemed real green and inexperienced (which she is so I don't blame her) She tried real hard though so I give her credit. Her best performance was as the lesbian in the last sketch And as someone on the s-n-l.com board said last night that Peter Pan sketch was tailor made to star Norm MacDonald in the Captain Hook role. Bill was great but Norm would have made that a classic.

Hillary Clinton is going to be on SNL tonight. The real one, not Amy Poehler doing an impression. Ellen Page is hosting

Six-years, $39-million for Gibril Wilson? Gibril Wilson? God damn are the Raiders stupid.
-
Giants have already lost 3 free agents today Kawika Mitchell signed with the Bills Reggie Torbor signed with the Dolphins. Gibril Wilson signed with the Raiders Nothing huge. Wilson really hasn't done shit since his rookie season and Torbor is merely a part. I liked Mitchell though
