  5. Bill's out, so Ben gets 'SNL' vote By MARISA GUTHRIE DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Bill Clinton wasn't available to host the premiere of "Saturday Night Live" so the next most ubiquitous Democrat will do - Ben Affleck. Affleck has been tapped to host the 30th season opener of NBC's "SNL" Oct. 2 at 11:30 p.m. Rap star Nelly is the musical guest. Boston-bred Affleck spent a lot of time stumping at the Democratic National Convention in his hometown earlier this summer and has emerged as a political figure. "SNL" producers tried to woo Clinton to kick off the season, but the ex-President and best-selling author turned down the invitation. Now, of course, he's convalescing after heart bypass surgery and so wouldn't have been available anyway. Clinton's refusal provided an opening for Affleck to make his third appearance on the show. Likewise, it will be his second appearance after the breakup of his almost-marriage to Jennifer Lopez, which is likely to limit the show's comedic attacks on his love life. (He was last on "SNL" in March.) It won't dampen, however, an all-out attack on his recent film career, which includes the bombs "Gigli" with Lopez, "Jersey Girl" and "Paycheck." His films, along with his strong political beliefs, should provide enough fodder for "SNL" writers to fill a show. Not surprisingly, Affleck has a new movie to promote, "Surviving Christmas," with James Gandolfini and Christina Applegate. Originally published on September 16, 2004

Was that a Pat Borders sighting I just witnessed on BTN? And a Pat Borders getting an RBI hit? It's like 1992 all over again.

  8. Actually Hogan was a transitional champion for Undertaker, the plan from the beginning was for Taker to get the belt.

Ben Affleck to Host Season Premiere of SNL

Maybe they have Seth Myers in Jimmy's role? Create a new character alongside Dratch. Like something like Fallon's character moved to Chicago because Nomar was traded to the Cubs, so she has a new boyfriend. Well maybe not, but I want to see more of Seth, especially talking about the Red Sox.

    2004 Departure Thread

Every year the company used to do a Post Wrestlemania "Spring Cleaning", where they would drop several workers to keep a budget.. Now these releases keep coming at different times and out of nowhere.
  12. Found this post from Meltzer on WC: "Kevin Nash faked a heart attack so he wouldn't have to job. bullied everyone for years. totally unprofessional in laughing about matches he had to job in during the match itself (the time he laid down for Chris Daniels in UPW) and his treatment of Terry Funk pop to mind--double crossing him on an interview and laughing to the rest of the boys at how he made the famous Terry Funk tongue-tied (since he double-crossed the spot) and then not selling a thing for him in the ring. Nash vs. Piper when he also wouldn't sell for him and then tried to pick a fight with him." Was the Heart Attack deal at Starcade 97? Not wanting to job to the Giant? What was the deal with Funk?, I wasn't really watching WCW back then Ditto for Piper
  13. It's funny because after HHH jobbed the belt to Hogan at Backlash 2002, he said something along the lines of "It doesn't matter that I lost the belt, I was in there with one of the biggest legends in this business" "It was an honor to be in the same ring as Hulk Hogan" And now he hates him.

    *Smackdown Spoilers* from Spokane

Good God, here is a more detailed recap of Cole/Heidenreich from OO: " Michael Cole Backstage With JH -Cole is Pressed stomach first against the wall with JH's stomach pressed against Cole's back -JH says he's gonna give Cole somethings he's wanted to for a long time, he the grunts and both guys lurch upwards and forwards. I wish I was making this up and no, it wasn't being played for humor although I found MC being raped quite amusing." Wonder if that was Heyman's idea? Also, match 5 of Cena v Booker will be at No Mercy

Another John Kruk is a moron thread

I always thought that as soon as ESPN got into bed with the NFL and the NBA, they could have given a good God damn about baseball. There are some anchors on SportCenter that clearly know nothing about baseball (Steve Levy is the prime example, mispronouncing player's names left and right, Kevin Frazier before he left, Stuart Scott, even Kilborn had trouble doing baseball highlights). If you have ever listened to Mike and Mike In the Morning on ESPN Radio, Mike Greenberg flat out admitted he wasn't a baseball fan. After he said that I tried to stay away from that show as much as possible. Rich Eisen, in an interview after he left ESPN, said he felt like a loner because he was really the only anchor who loved baseball, all the other anchors only cared about the NBA and college basketball. In the early 90's ESPN was really built around MLB, having a game nearly every day of the week, now they seem to cover baseball only because they have to. Their baseball coverage has gotten pathetic. BTN is a shell of it's former self with idiots like Kruk and Reynolds. The only thing going for it is the highlights and up to the minute updates. To me, it's like baseball is the red headed stephchild of the ESPN conglomerate

    Favorite WWE Euphemism

Vince McMahon always used to say "This crowd is in stunned silence" or "Is in awe of the action going on in the ring" when there was no heat in the match.

    Tom Prichard Fired by WWE

"Dr. Tom Prichard has been released by WWE. I believe it happened today and it came about very suddenly. No reason has been announced at this time. The word making its way around Titan Towers today was that Tommy Dreamer has taken over his responsibilities with WWE, including in the WWE developmental program. Dreamer was sent to OVW earlier this week and announced to the workers that he was there to observe the developmental process. As it turns out, he was actually there to prepare for his new responsibilities, whether he knew it or not. From what OVW workers told us, Dreamer was not under the impression that he was at OVW for any other reason that to observe the process, which would lead me to believe he had no idea the real reason he was there." Credit: PWI I wonder what Bruce thinks? Glad to see Tommy get promoted.

What will Vince say next week?

From 1wrestling: "A WWE source tells 1Wrestling.com that Eric Bischoff is apparently in the doghouse for leaving last night's PPV early because he thought he wasn't on the show. Bischoff wasn't told by agents and writers that he was going to be involved in sending Coach to the ring during the Triple H/Randy Orton match, and by the time someone was able to reach him by cell phone he was two hours away driving to Seattle for RAW." Well, they may do a "GM Election"
