Japanese wrestling: how much of its history has been on PPV?
IWD posted a topic in General Wrestling
Does anyone have any information on when Japanese wrestling PPV's started in that country? (I realise that some Japanese shows such as the WCW/NJPW Supershows were on PPV in the States from 1991-1993.) Are they relatively recent in comparison to the US (i.e.: the build tended to be towards big attendances rather than big viewing figures?) How important are they in Japan? Is there a list anywhere of which shows were on PPV and which ones were not? Thanks. -
Most original thing I've seen in a US womens match in years.

I could be wrong, but wasn't this an aborted angle WWF was going to do after Savage's "retirement" in '92? The retirement angle was in 1991 as he returned to wrestle Jake Roberts on PPV at This Tuesday in Texas, but yes - he wrestled a few matches under a mask as Mr. Madness in the run-up to that PPV.

I started watching during the World of Sport days on British TV in the early 80's (most of which was terrible.) I began watching WWF a few years later (rather bizarrely in Switzerland.) Randy Savage was a legend to me back then.

IIRC, Snow was backstage at the tapings, but he wasn't used. Nothing since the PPV. On the recent Wrestling Observer Radio, Foley said that they had some ideas for Al Snow but they fell through.

Certainly one of the better Mark Henry matches I've seen.

Jericho? Interesting.

There's a guy 3 or 4 rows back in the crows who is literally asleep!

This show's gonna run late, isn't it?

The whole concept of successfully defending your title and getting a new title reign added on is fucking stupid.

Edge waiting up on the ladder kinda sucks here.

I guess there's a chance they might go outside of the cell, since they haven't done that since HHH vs Y2J at Judgment Day '02. Called it.

Plenty of time left for it too...

The HBK vs Y2J stuff has definitely been the feud of the year.

Punk's hand is bloody too. EDIT: Back of the head, I see why now.

I thought he blocked it. Didn't he sell it?

Oh shit, Michael Hayes is going to get his revenge one way or another. LOL! Credit where it's due.

Observer site seems to have crashed since that angle...

... although by being on the PPV it can be built up to be even bigger, and we all know that clip is going to be replayed on Raw plenty of times before the final pay-off. Essentially, even though they could have used the time for another match, I didn't mind this being on the PPV at all.

I actually thought that was a decent segment.

So, I guess he wasn't on the card for some reason in 2002. He was let go by WWE in 2003, but was back in time for SummerSlam 2006. Was he suspended or injured for the '06 and '07 events? EDIT: Looks like he came back to WWE before SummerSlam '06, but didn't re-debut until after it.
