    Noah Fentz vs. The World

Nah, we're all sitting on the sidelines reminiscing about good TSM fights. This one's just pathetic. Hey, remember the 9/11 thread where Marney had that great quote from "Mr. Belloc Still Objects" and Johnson walked right into it?

Just like the Republicans in the States, the Liberals just seem to play the game better at election time. Really, the Conservatives never recovered from the Reform split and the '93 election, and the 2004 election just nine months after the merger proved they were not ready for prime time. The Grits have had their politicos in place for decades. I'm not exactly saying this is Harper's Waterloo, especially with the Liberals' milquetoast leader and Jack Layton siphoning votes, but the Tories will be in for a rough ride if they only have a handful of MPs on the official opposition party. It might be a mirrored repeat of the '04-05 parliament. And I don't know about where you live, but people here assume the presidential election is a foregone conclusion and are really taking an interest in the potential car-wreck here. Still haven't seen Jim Prentice anywhere. Probably in Ontario still. I'd like for someone here to rise up and smack Rob Anders, but given Calgary's tendency to vote against their own interests, that's not going to happen. Maxine Bernier is probably going to get stomped.

    Noah Fentz vs. The World

I'm going to point to this thread as the downfall of humanity. You know, I was out for a walk earlier, and I could have swore I saw 6000 years of history collapsing before my eyes and the first thought that came to mind was, "I bet that stupid message board I post on every two or three days has something to do with this."

Yes, you can donate, but the tax system is set up such that you get about 75% of your donation back. I've never joined any party, since it'll close doors if I go in for government work.

    Campaign 2008: Canadian Version

Last night I received a call (automated) from the CPC. Basically a one question survey asking whether I would support the 1) incumbent (Jim Prentice), 2) another party, or 3) was still undecided. Sounds like the Tories are worried about their rear flank. Although I seriously doubt it happening, a non-Tory elected in Alberta combined with the potential for zero net gains in Ontario and Quebec could be a real morale killer.

Kevin Taft never closed no hospitals. So, twelve days to go, and it seems we're still treading water, at least as far as polls go. Some say Harper is in for a squeaker of a majority, but TEH ECONIMIC CRYSIS is all over the place and if someone is able to score a big jab on the issue, they may have the momentum in the home stretch. It's been the most interesting campaign since the KILL THE TORIES election in 1993 (although for the wrong reasons), but the most I see happening is the Grits losing 30 seats: 15 to the NDP, 15 to the Conservatives. The Bloc stays the same. The aftermath is what I'm looking forward to, as I'm pretty sure Dion's lame duck term as leader is done and either Ignatieff or Rae hit the reset button. And I'm sure Harper will be in for some tough questions as to why an election was even needed in the first place. I'm not saying in-party revolt, but he might be doing some damage to the party base.

Precisely. Any one group of people that sees fit to constantly re-elect Bozo the Klein and his ilk have no business telling anyone else how to run their lives.

  12. Let's not overlook 1997. Yes, it was complicated and eventually scrapped by Michaels' bullshit and Austin's knee injury. But Bret presumably winning the Rumble only to be tossed by Austin after no one saw him hit the ground could be argued as the point which Bret Hart began his descent into madness, which in turn created the star of Steve Austin during the only match that mattered at WM 13.

Nice. I don't remember: is David Emerson running again? Some polls according to Hill and Knowlton have the Greens coming in second in my riding with about 25% of the vote behind Prentice. I would be glorious if the first Green seat came out of Calgary. They're not doing themselves any favors though, since some of their candidates don't dispel the "one-issue platform" stigma. And this doesn't distinguish them from other parties in terms of how to conduct themselves.

Okay, forget Alexisonfire. Wesley Willis and The Jesus Lizard are where you want to go. I've actually been impressed with the two Melt Banana songs I've heard. If you can find it, 31Knots is kind of similar as well.

This site displaying all the various poll results and predicting seat counts is rather engrossing: http://predictor.hillandknowlton.ca/ The way I see it that the CPC is bankrolling on either a Harper majority government or a Liberal minority. Why a Liberal minority? The economy is starting to point down, so the CPC and its brand spanking new leader (since if Harper loses this election which he seems to equate to one on leadership, he's outta here. I'm thinking Jim Prentice would be perfect material for new leader.) can bring down the government in '09 or '10 and say "We tried it the Liberal way, Canada, now give us that majority government we've been asking for." The present worst-case scenario (for the Conservatives) is another minority government, and it's the one the polls are currently bearing out. I personally am looking forward to it because: I like some of what the CPC has done, but Harper's overbearing act is wearing a little thin, as are the acts of Calgary Tory cohorts Jason Kenney and Rob Anders. Stephane Dion is lighting no one's world on fire. Ignatieff was always better and more eloquent leadership material. It will be a tacit admission that an election really wasn't necessary in the first place since we're back at square one. It'll be a chance to freshen up the opposition. If the Bloc does poorly, goodbye Gilles Duceppe. He's been party leader for over ten years and I think they need to change direction. (But the Bloc has done so well in Quebec since 1993, I don't see it happening.)
