WON Hall of Fame voting results

boy did this thing ever spiral out of control. we go from shawn being overrated, to what's a carry, to benoit being overrated, to shawn being better than bret. so, the discussion at hand... you're not backing anything up here. the idea in an argument is to start at a place where you both agree, then move by logical steps to your position so the other person can't help but agree. this is just tossing claims out there.

WON Hall of Fame voting results

guys, if you're gonna start arguing about who carried who, it really helps to point out specific examples of your wrestler dictating the pace or calling the shots. saying shit like "wrestler x carried that match!" "no he didn't! wrestler y carried it, how could you be such a dumbass!" without anything to back these claims is futile. if you can't justify that wrestler x really carried the match, then you don't really know he carried the match, and you best sit down & shut up. and SK gave the no mercy match ****1/4, and the raw tag match ****3/4.

Most significant match of the decade

i've heard about as many people say foley/taker is a true classic/great match as bret/shawn.

Most significant match of the decade

well, you could fill a 6-hour tape of better bret hart matches than that one, but that's not the point. the point is bret/shawn is a far better match than taker/foley (though both have stellar reputations), and hence is less overrated.

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre

"What I thought made it terrifying is that it follows almost none of the rules of slasher type films. The people in it don't do anything to "deserve" to be killed (smoke weed, have sex, or say "I'll be right back"). Also, the main chick doesn't get ANY sort of offense or last laugh on Leatherface and Co. Despite the deranged subject matter it seemed quite realistic." well, you have to put it in context. if i know my horror film history right (and i may very well have this wrong), the "slasher" formula wasn't firmly in place until after 'halloween', which came out after tcm. i think before then, there was just this loose cluster of exploitation movies and didn't really have many genre rules. 'last house on the left' is another example.

    Random AIM conversation excerpts.

random conversation i'm having with a girl from arizona... me: i was just having a discussion with brian about eggs me: he says if you eat 50 eggs you should be able to say that you ate 50 chickens, cause they were going to be chickens her: That's so not true me: i said no, cause that means that if a girl gives someone head then she could say she ate 200 million people her: haha her: Once again, I love you me: enough to eat 200 million of my people? her: Okay, maybe not that much me: enough to set 200 million of my people free to meet with one of your people? she has yet to respond to that last thing.

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre

haven't seen it in years, but it was one of those great movies that i'd rent for the first time with my best friend and love so much that we'd watch it 2 more times before it was due the next day. i wouldn't exactly call it scary, but it has a very down-and-dirty, unrelenting atmosphere that's about as close to truly scary as you can get (without actually being scary). my feminist film theory professor actually showed a clip of it when we were studying feminist theory of horror movies (i think she showed the ending), and i marked the fuck out. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): the only thing i didn't like about it was the ending. ending such a bleak, nihilistic movie on a sunrise just felt wrong, and the whole motorist thing was contrived. and it's way too abrupt, with leatherface just flailing the chainsaw around like he's doing some primitive interpretive dance. if they wanted abruptness, they should've just killed the girl. come to think of it, i think that would've been the perfect ending: the sun's coming up, she finds the guy in the truck & it looks like she'll get away, but leatherface slaughters the guy; she tries to run away, he grabs her & the movie cuts to black right as the chainsaw starts to dig into her neck.

    Best Shawn/Bret match

SS 92, easily. aside from a couple rookie pacing mistakes by shawn (chinlocks where there shouldn't be), the flow is MUCH better, and the last 5 minutes those guys are feeling it. the timing of bret making the comeback, then crushing his nuts in the ropes on a high cross body attempt is perfect.

Most significant match of the decade

i think foley's hell in a cell fiasco is more overrated than the iron man match. i'm not gonna defend it as a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but i quite like it. other significant matches that should probably be mentioned: hogan/yokozuna, KoR 93: the end of the hogan era in the wwf. austin/hbk, WM 98: when the wwf started to get truly competitive again--austin finally on top, attitude era, the publicity with mike tyson, etc.

Were you to take a drug test right now...

wouldn't legal restrictions ALWAYS be keeping you from doing drugs anyway? a: so, do you smoke weed? b: no, man. stupid legal restrictions. but just wait till i turn 18, and i'm gonna smoke out like a madman! a: ... in fact, if you're worried about the restrictions, shouldn't you do it when you're younger and the penalties are lighter?

    Definitive Austin/Jericho match?

if you're looking for the definitive austin/jericho match, i think NWO 2002 would be fine. it really wasn't that good, and that defines austin/jericho matches perfectly.

    Favorite Movie

let me join in the bitching about the 'seven samurai' dvd. forty fucking dollars. if i'm paying forty dollars for a dvd, it better be LOADED with all sorts of cool shit on it (like 'in the mood for love' or 'contempt'). not even a 2-disc set, and there's nothing on it but an exceedingly dull commentary. granted, it's hard to think of stuff to talk about for 3 1/2 hours, especially when you didn't make the movie, but the damn thing isn't even up-to-date. criterion just took the commentary done for the laserdisc back in the early 90s/late 80s (when mifune and kurosawa were still alive), and pasted it on the dvd. screw you, criterion. i'm gonna go snuggle up with my fox lorber bare bones copy of 'ran', which is just as good and cost me less than twenty bucks.
