They celebrate, and it ends with a frozen shot of Ben celebrating with Michele the Fitness concierge. The director said he wanted that ending to show that the good guys don't always win in the end. Anyway, test audiences hated it, studio execs hated it and told the director to change it. He threw a hissy fit and walked off the picture, but came back and shot the theatrical ending. Like IDRM said, of course test audiences don't like it. But it would have made for a better movie.

Not quite. Metro was basically straight action, and some might tell you otherwise, but I believe Harlem Nights was truly a drama. His choice to make a crime drama starring himself, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx was utterly bizarre, and I think accounts for it's less than stellar reputation. People expected it to be funny. Watched as a drama, it's actually pretty good. No, you're right about Metro. That wasn't a comedy. As for Harlem Nights, I've never seen it, but my pops has and he swears it's a comedy.
