I can recall saying, during the Habs' awful '03 season, that they looked bad fundamentally; in hindsight, what's quoted makes an incredible amount of sense to me.

My dad and I discussed how ridiculous it was for the Leafs to win all these games suddenly, and potentially miss out on both the playoffs and draft lottery. He said I sounded liek Jesse Ventura giving Vince the business, ala SNME. "Look how stupid the Leafs are! Have they no common sense?"

Sports Page in the Business Section
CanadianGuitarist replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Sports
Golf's been hit really hard as well, with purses rising substantially since 1997 when Tiger became a name to everyday people, not just golf fans. Purses rose exponentially that year, as well as after the 2000 season, where Tiger had arguably the best season in the history of golf. I can recall my grandfather saying in 2000 that tournaments were likely to price themselves out of business. The average purse in 2000 was about three million, with roughly 600k to the winner. This year, there's only four tournaments with purses less than five million, and that's coming off a year with Tiger only playing six times, and ratings down significantly. Since 2004, sixteen tournaments (roughly 1/3) have changed sponsors, and three have gone belly up altogether, kind of tying into 909's point above, though all were replaced. With banks, automakers, and financial planning firms primarily as sponsors, that problem's going to get worse. -
Damn, missed my chance to sneak in the line from Major League 2 I wanted to use: "We won a game yesterday! Win one today? That's two in a row. Tomorrow? That's called a winning streak. It has happened before."

He's not that good. He's supposed to have been the next big thing in Toronto, and it's been that way since 2000. He's from Kazhikstan, but is no relation to Borat He's actually a bargain: 2.5 mil for a 20-goal man. On the other hand, he's not gonna score 20 anywhere else in the league, since no team is going to stubbornly give such a Clydesdale first-line ice time for eight seasons.

I really should be going to a butcher more often. I don't really like to spoil myself, but I do like to splurge on a steak on payday.

Who the hell is Doug Janik? I know he's spent most of this season in the AHL, but I don't even vaguely remember hearing his name. I'm also weary of this deal, given how well Ribeiro-Niinima went.

The Billy Hillifier makes light of human suffering
CanadianGuitarist replied to RepoMan's topic in No Holds Barred
I felt bad laughing as hard as I did at 9/11. The guilt finally got to me with The Falling Man, but....Jesus, I did I laugh. -
As the great BB King once said "Guitars, man. I don't know much about 'em - I just play."

I thought it was LotC? And you should have seen what I left out. Fuck it, I'll add it: The ahn-dre-uh pronunciation kind of reminded me of how sometimes people pronounce 'aunt' as 'ahn-tuh', which I kind of associate with being a black thing as well. I've never asked a girl I was in bed with if she wanted me to lick her cahn-tuh. I'm nice to EMHE, though - I almost break even, don't I?

I'd really like to see Montreal make a run at Colby Armstrong this week - he's pretty quietly got 15 goals (good for fourth on the Habs!), and he adds that character the Habs sorely need for the playoffs. Moreover, his salary of one-and-a-half wouldn't mean breaking the bank to acquire him. If Tanguay can stay healthy for April, he might be as good as a trade deadline acquisition.

World's Worst Wrestling fantasy booking thread
CanadianGuitarist replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in General Wrestling
I eventually noticed that he didn't wrestle. In hindsight, I think I missed the point, as I don't get the carny-folk thing. My initial argument after the arrested thing is moot if that's not what you were going for. I have nothing to offer here. -

Sabu? You're drunk. Garbage wrestling? Yes. Creative, fun to watch, ahead of his time moves? Yes. Entertaining matches with some of the biggest names of all time (including some notable world champions)? Yes. I appreciate the effort, but surely, somewhere in the annals of wrestling history, you could have found someone worse than Sabu (even if he was arrested), right? -
I gave my friend Andrea the freakin businesss/i] when she invited me to see this. Anyone remember that Simpsons where Skinner tells Apu about Billy and the Cloneosaurus, and Apu goes off on him? That was me. Does she pronounce her name Ann-dree-uh or Ahn-dray-uh? I know the latter is "classier" but I like it better the first way. Former. The latter almost sounds black.

I disagree. Twenty strips of pre-cooked bacon for 4 bucks is awesome, and well worth the extra (roughly) 75 cents. By the way, the 20-strip package is from M&M Meats, which is a phenomenal frozen food store in Canada. The only other notable pre-cooked bacon is Maple Leaf, which is also pretty good. Discounting the work/price ratio, how good could 99-cent bacon be?

This. I'm in the market for a Blu Ray player, so I'm liable to cave and just buy a PS3. The last Show I played was I think '03, but it was phenomenal then. If I bought a PS1 for ECW Anarchy Rulz, I can buy a PS3 for The Show.

Sidekick named for "Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien"
CanadianGuitarist replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Television & Film
It's been nine years since Andy left? Jesus. -
I specifically centred my two allocated days off next week around the NHl trade deadline. I regret doing so, as I'd kinda like to go to this, even though, like Treble, I'm not taking it that seriously. Quite frankly, I should be more like Treble in most aspects.

Yes. Lose to the Leafs, lose your job. Renney? Check. Therrien? Check. Last Leafs win in Toronto, excluding those Pens games? Ottawa the first weekend of 2009. Hartsburg? Check.

What was the dumbest head coach/manager decision in a game?
CanadianGuitarist replied to YourKock'sReallyGreat's topic in Sports
Baron beat me to it. After that, Grady Little was my first thought. -
What was it? I'm sure this, or a similar question has been asked before, but I never actually saw the Shake, Rattle & Roll. It was a swinging neckbreaker, wasn't it?
-
Yeah, I had them missing the playoffs as well. I don't know what I was thinkin'.

Though it sounds like it wasn't a particularly responsible game by the Habs, a win over the Canucks, by whom they'd been defeated 11 straight times, sets me at ease after a distastrous month. My finger is now totally distuingishable from the panic button. I don't think I like this goalie controversy Carbonneau wants to start. Good for Halak for doing an admirable job filling in, and I like the idea of letting him ride, but Price is the better goalie - figure out why he's so shaky, and fix it.

Arrested Development: The Movie
CanadianGuitarist replied to Boner Kawanger's topic in Television & Film
Awesome. I've only recently got into this series, and loved it almost immediately. I'm hoping An Yeung makes one (but only one) appearance. What was the Seinfeld reference in the first post? -
