Simple questions about blu ray players

    1. Do all players need to be connected to the internet? I hard firmware updates are needed for players. Does this require a constant internet connection for the player? Require? No. Recommended? Yes. Firmware updates (and the copy protects that prelude them) aren't all that often (in my experiences with them, every six-eight weeks, if that). I find the consumer fear of these to be a little overblown. Having said that, you will need to update occasionally, via firmware updated on burned cd or dvd, a jumpdrive (if your player accommodates one), or, ideally, ethernet. 2. How well do players upscale? I have such a large dvd collection, I can't replace it all, how good will it work? I have never known a BRD player that didn't upscale to 1080p when connected via HDMI. I suppose they exist, but I've never seen one. Worth nothing: Players can also run off component and still do 1080i, but you're sacrificing significant sound quality when going from HDMI to component audio. As far as how well it works - I notice a slight difference in natural 1080 and scaled 1080, but I've essentially spent the last six years watching television for a living. Most consumers aren't as discerning as I have been. 3. How long does it take to start playing a blu ray? I hear the start time can be up to 5 min. In all my experience with them, it's been slightly longer than a traditional DVD.

When what happens backstage/IRL ruins a match/angle for you.

Shit, I'd forgot all about Sherri Martel.

    Disc Golf....

What are the courses like? Are there different pars? How long is a hole on average? This fascinates me, plus Mike seems like he'd be a good guy to hang around with and drink a few beers with....even if the game itself is moving to the forefront.

    Man vs. Food

I know this might be a dumb question, but is it still considered affeminant to eat either of these with a fork and knife?

    Gas Stations

I detest beef jerky. At least, when it's going head-to-head with pepperettes. I'm convinced I had some awful jerky somewhere, because I don't remember any specific incident of me eating beef jerky, I've just hated it for as long as I can remember.

    What did you eat today?

Every time I think about it, it surprises me how rarely I eat breakfast in the morning. I've often said I would happily eat breakfast-y foods at every meal for the rest of my life. Today, I got up at noon, thanks to being on afternoons at work all week. I had a grilled chicken breast smothered in salsa and a glass of milk for lunch and about two o'clock, and bacon, eggs, and toast for supper at 7ish.

Has anyone here ever listened to Behold...the Arctopus! ?

Your guilty pleasure of the moment

For someone who pledged to become more well-rounded in his musical tastes in 2009*, I've been listening to an awful lot of Hoobastank the last few weeks. *I was really into blues when I was about 12, and I've often mentioned a desire to get more into classical music.

    Let's predict 2009's won-lost records.

I'm hoping for 81 wins. Meaningful baseball last year was a nice bridge between the end of majors in golf, up to the start of football season.

That was disgraceful enough on it's own even disregarding the irony of the timing with Benoit. Sorry if that's a mouthful, but I don't know how to phrase it without it sounding like "The timing of Chris Benoit's murder-suicide was just terrible!"

I'd really like this to be true, but they'll be the two most sought-after players on the Habs when Gainey starts shopping. With the arrival of Schneider, I think they become a little more expendable. My head still hurts from saying that yesterday. Oyyyy. Hey, surely a span of three cities in four nights starting Wednesday should fix things! Better yet, not even four nights, but three nights and one afternoon!

The day the Bruins and Scabs make a trade together is the day that snocones are sold in hell. Look at the reaction that Ryder got for SIGNING with the Bruins. Imagine the microscope that the players will be under on their new teams? This isn't like paying too much to acquire a two-year-past-his-prime Schneider. Fernandez's every move would be scrutinized. The Scabs are going to have to give up a ton to get themselves a goalie. They're basically out of cap space, so someone will be moving. And if you think Kovalev is going to be a "valuable" asset to them at the deadline, you're crazy. You're right: Kovalev's not going anywhere; but he'll be forgiven if he ever picks it up....or passes! Schneider's arrival virtually guarantees adding Komisarek or Markov into a 'big-name' trade package. Schneider in, Komisarek or Markov out - I'm gettin a beer.

I have no idea what Luke-o actually looks like. If it's nothing like the picture above, it doesn't matter - the picture is still hilarious.

He's being paid too much, or two picks is too much? If your quote included the addendum "in a season where he's 4-11-15 and -10", then both my questions are answered. To my further chagrin, he only has the one Cup - he signed with Anaheim and Detroit immediately after their Cup wins. Oh well, after the last two weeks and change...nowhere to go but up.

What's the recurring joke involving Willy Aybar? I really thought Dotel's hard-on would be a more prominent TSMeme.

    A requiem for MarvinisaLunatic

I don't mind Marvin. Given what I did for a living from 2003-2009, his love of HDTV helped me out.

Point well taken, but Kaberle proactively telling the media he's waive his clause is basically saying he wants out. His trade stock has surely dropped with his current injury, but if he's back and gets a few games in before the deadline (or even if he doesn't), Burke will get a few phone calls.

Given the deer in the headlights Price was last playoffs, coupled with Fernandez twice going to the Western finals, we'll talk. This is assuming I don't kill every Hab before March 4, which I've already booked off work.
