Matt Hardy speaks on he and Lita splitting
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Gary Newman has a lot to answer for then. -
And this should hopefully lead to some higher buyrates, assuming the true "most popular" choice won, rather than a rigged ballot where the WWE's choice wins. I wonder if the buyrate would've jumped a little last year if the HHH/HBK title match had been announced the week before, or if Benoit or Edge could've spiked the buys just a little more? Or, do you think the buyrate would've hovered in the same ballpark because of a) the day of the week for the PPV being shitty, and b) most people believed the title wasn't gonna change regardless of who was in the match? I think a definitive main event would have added some buys, but probably not a great deal, primiarily because nobody would believe that Edge would have beaten Hunter, and because they'd just done Hunter v Shawn in the main event in June, and it was too soon to go back to it again and expect it to spike buys.
-
The fans vote for the contender, they just announce who won before the PPV, so fans know the main event they are paying for. You'll likely get more buys if people know what they are going to get for their $24.95.

Austin was also upset at Owen not calling him after the neck accident, and seeing how he was. A couple of years ago he even said something about how Owen should have been calling him all the time. Funny thing is Austin did the same thing to Masahiro Chono that Owen did to him, and I don't think Austin was calling Chono a lot to see how he was.

They couldn't resist the alliteration. They've changed the date and moved it to November, so it's going to get higher buyrates. They've learned their lesson from putting on a weeknight PPV...the same night the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have a ALCS game, which took away a shit load of people. And yet it is still Taboo Tuesday, so obviously they haven't learned that much. I like the concept, and I am for anything that brings some uniqueness to the PPVs, but putting it on Tuesday is terrible. Just put it on a Sunday already. The problem with the TT concept, no matter what night they put it on, is that they were selling a PPV with no definitive main event. That makes it hard to sell the people on a main event, because you don't know what the main event will be. If they do do the TT concept again, they need to have a definitive main even to push, and should leave the randomness to the other matches.

Cornette hates the garbage style of wrestling, and sees IWA-MS as that. It really started to get going when the Louisville Eccentric Observer, a free weekly newspaper in Louisville, did a piece on covering IWA-MS, and talked in detail about the violent and bloody matches in IWA-MS. Cornette responded with a letter to the paper that basically said what IWA-MS does isn't wrestling, and don't compare what IWA-MS does to wrestling, because they aren't the same. The next week, Jim Fannin replied and took shots at OVW and Cornette, and it ended there, because Cornette didn't want to respond again, feeling that by doing so he was giving IWA-MS publicity that he didn't want to give them.

Who's that guy who runs America again ? Oh yeah, the President. And who was his father again ? Oh yeah, ex-president Bush. And who was that wrestler guy they've both asked to speak to their party ? Austin ? Hogan ? Oh yeah, Ric Flair. Only if he fathered them both.

*Waits for the "Michaels needed the win to look strong for WM" argument* And I can guess who one of those people will be. Shawn's almost certain to win at WM anyway, so it would have at least added fire to see Kurt screw Shawn out of the win, and given Shawn another dimension to his horrible promo on Monday.
-
Shawn v Kurt was put together because a lot of the top people, including Hunter and Flair, felt they could have a great wrestling match, and that this was the place to do it.
-
Those finishes only work if it's the babyface kicking out of all the moves, but the heel screws him over to win the match.
-
Almost everyone in BFA was injured in some way. Savio Vega didn't wrestle again for years after.
-
Similiar to that match, the ending to HBK v Edge from Raw last week. Shawn kicks out of a million moves from Edge, and yet he hits one superkick and it's all over. Way to bury Edge.
-
Maybe because it was good enough to detract from that, and because it at least had a number of wrestling references. This one had neither.

Bart was very confident that he'd batter Williams if they met. As for Williams wrestling background, he hadn't been in a shoot for years, so it's hard to get back into that mindset after being in works for so long. BFA was a total disaster in every way, shape, and form.

Put it this way, New Japan was willing to pay a large chunk of coin for Hiroshi Tanahashi to get a run with the ROH Title. The NWA Title has next to no prestige, value or credibility any more, and hasn't for years. The ROH belt, while not having the long history attached to it that the NWA Title has, does have the advantage of being more than a vanity plate for the owner of the company. The ROH belt is handled in a far far better manner than the NWA Title is now, and was handled at any point since 1990. And while the NWA Title is recognized by promotions around the world, so what ? What are they recognizing but the vanity belt for Jeff Jarrett to use to get himself over ?

Does Bart have any legit fighting cred? Why Bob Holly, is he a pussy in real life or something? Why didn't they work it if they wanted Williams to run through the competition? Were they confident that he was a badass? Would whoever else have won gotten the same push? Bart was in some Tough Man contests, and actually pleaded with them not to face Williams because he knew he'd destory him. They asked him to take it easy on Holly, because after what happened to Williams, Vega and others, they didn't want guys too badly hurt. They didn't work it because Doc had a tough guy rep, and they felt he was legit tough still. It was designed solely for Doc to win, and the fact they did next to nothing with Bart Gunn except feed him to Butterbean shows how they felt about his marketability as a top guy.
-
It was a total shoot, though in Bart Gunn v Bob Holly Bart was told to take it easy on Bob. The idea was Williams would win it easily, as a way to build him up as a challenger for Austin.

I just checked the tape myself, and they show no shots of Owen or Sgt Slaughter after the fall. Must have been quite the VCR.
-
If anyone else here has a copy of OTE, I'd like to hear if they can see this supposed shot.
-
WWE never showed Owen on camera after the fall, so it would have been difficult for FS's 'grandfather' to have a tape of Owen giving anyone a thumbs up.
-
One angle saw Williams drag a guy out of the crowd, pull him into the ring, and give him a backdrop driver. The name of the guy ? Ed Ferrera.
-
It should be noted that the lowest rating in Raw history came during Michaels title reign in 1996, and that during said reign he also headlined one of the worst drawing MSG house shows in history.

I have a tape of the incident in question. It's absolutely hilarious watching Cornette storm out of the van, charge around to the window, yank it open, and stick is head in before cussing like crazy at the staff. The Saito-Patera story: It was really late, like 2am, and they wanted something to eat. They went to the McDonalds and, because they saw staff in there clearing up, wanted to be served. The staff refused, becasue they were closed. Patera wound up hurling a boulder through a window of the restaurant, causing the staff to call the cops. Patera and Saito fled the scene and went back to their hotel. The cops caught up with them, and in the ensuing struggle to arrest them, a dozen or so cops got involved, and Patera broke the leg of a female officer.
