That's a good point, that has really been overlooked in this whole deal. Batista has flaws, which are not a bad thing per se, but if he wins the World Title, the kind of push he'll undoubtedly get will greatly expose those flaws. Right now, as part of a group, Batista's weaknesses are being hidden, but when he's the top guy on Raw, he'll be expected to do things that he quite simply doesn't have the ability to do. The top guy on Raw, which he will be pushed as, is expected to do lengthy main event caliber interviews, and Batista just isn't at that level on the mic. He might get there, and he'd probably get there quicker if he doesn't have to learn in the spotlight, but once he's the top guy, he'd better get there real fast, or people will see that his mic work isn't at the top level. Secondly, they're going to want 15-20 minute matches out of him, especially when he's facing Hunter, and Batista is going to have to be carried through matches of that length, and Raw doesn't have enough variety of people who can both do that and be accepted as World Title challengers. He'd do better on top if he would be allowed to do 10-12 minute matches, that capitalize on his strengths and hide his weaknesses, but Hunter, who he'll invariably spend most of his time wrestling against, is dead set on doing long matches, regardless of whether it's the best thing to do, and I don't think Hunter can get a good World Title level match out of Batista if it goes over 15 minutes. Batista does have the potential to grow into a main event level player on the mic, and I think he can improve in the ring to where he can carry his end of World Title level matches that go as long as Vince and co want in their top players. The problem is, by the time he gets to that level, the window of opportunity with him will have closed, and if they wait until then to pull the trigger, they won't get as much out of it, at least in the short term, than if they pull the trigger now. It really is double-edged sword, and I don't have enough faith in WWE that they'll do things the right way. They'll push him as the top guy right now, and they won't be able to stop themselves from pushing him, in their minds, the 'right way' for a top guy, and they'll expose his weakness before Batista has had a chance to improve enough to work in the position they want him in.

Why ? One possible scenario: Batista wins the belt, beats the piss out of everyone for a year which the people go nuts for. Meanwhile, a face/heel gets built up and built up for a year, all the while staying away from Batista. Then, come the Rumble, this wrestler wins the Rumble, faces Batista at WM XXII, and beats him for the belt. Batista gets over with a year long reign that the people, presumably, would go nuts for, and the unnamed wrestler gets over for being the guy to finally end the reign of the beast that is Batista. Hunter might not like that idea, because it means him not being the top guy for an extend period, but Batista would go for it, because he'd be in the Billy Graham role.

Why ? Batista beating Hunter at WM XXI would be big, but beating Hunter for the World Title at WM XXI would be even bigger, and if you're strapping a rocket to someone, you don't half ass it.

That would be a really bad idea. If Hunter is dropping the World Title to Batista at WM XXI, then he'd have to get the belt right back, and a quickie title change right now, when they've only just filled the vacancy, would take even more edge off of the World Title, and they absolutely should not be doing that. For better or for worse for the long term, right now, Hunter, as World Champion, needs to be kept strong so it means more when he loses the title to Batistia.

The Dusty Finish in a World Title match is bad enough, but when WWE returned to Portland after over 10 years away, they did that finish in the Hunter v Nash main event, which was mind blowingly stupid. It's your first time back in a major market for over a decade, and you fuck with the fans by giving them a fake World Title change. It wasn't even done to build to a rematch of any kind. They just did it to swerve people for no reason, other than to swerve them.

If Lesnar does go to New Japan, and I don't think it will happen, I think they'll hold off Tenzan v Lesnar long enough for Tenzan to have a good run on top, so that at the same time Lesnar can be built up as a monster, and so when they meet, it'll seem really big.

Meltzer reported HBK/Angle will wrestle each other at WMXXI. Even if that match does happen at WM XXI, Edge and Michaels will surely have a rematch at some point, and so shouldn't be touching again the same night of their first singles match.

I wouldn't even tease something like that. Dave shouldn't be announced as World Champion, for even five seconds, before he actually wins the World Title for real. It's one thing to tease a normal upper midcard type as winning the World Title, but doing it with the guy who is actually going to win the title for real, to me, takes something away from the moment he actually does do it for real.

I don't think Orton is as great as some people think he is, but he's better than Cena. Since Cena's rap gimmick became more comedy orientated, he seems to have stopped trying to improve his in-ring talent, and seems content to cheerlead his way through matches with a few signature gimmick spots. That's all well and good for a midcard type, or someone who is super over to begin with, but Cena is neither of those, and he really needs to kick it in gear if he's going to be able to carry Smackdown, and not have business fall even further into the shitter. To make it clear, I'm not calling Cena bad by any means, but he's not great. Right now, he's just ok, but ok can't carry a company.

I can't see New Japan screwing up with Tenzan this time around. I think, or would like to think, that they know that if Tenzan isn't pushed as a superstar from this point on, then his chances of ever being a money player for New Japan will be zero. Tenzan has been so badly booked as IWGP Champion before, though that hasn't always been by design, that if he isn't kept super strong this time around, he'll get seen has having no credibility in the top spot, and any time Tenzan gets pushed there in the future won't mean a great deal, because he'll have the stigma of his previous reigns to overcome, and I don't think he can do it if this reign flops. I see Tenzan coming out as Double Champion, holding both belts until the end of the year, and dropping the Triple Crown back to Kojima on All Japan's final big show of 2005. He'll then, hopefully, make a successful IWGP Title defence in January of 2006's Dome Show.

While that crowd is a pro wrestling record, it isn't accurate to use it as a measure of drawing power as everyone there was told to attend, so it wouldn't have mattered who was wrestling, it would have still drawn 170,000. As for most crowd heat, for sustained heat I'd probably have to go with the main event for Canadian Stampede. For most heat in the shortest period of time, then I'd go with pretty much any time the Rock 'n' Roll Express came out during their 1985-1986 peak. That is like nothing else you've ever been witness to.

I don't think they'll bring back the winged WWF Title belt, at least not on Smackdown, because I think in the eyes of most WWE/F fans it means more than the NWA gold belt, and you know something that is seen as above the Raw belt isn't going to be allowed to happen.

I think they'll save the Budokan match for when Tenzan drops the Triple Crown to Kojima or whoever. If things go well with this, then they can play it up as a big deal that All Japan has 'returned home to Budokan' by having an All Japan guy take the Triple Crown back from 'the enemy', New Japan. I can't see any logical reason for Tenzan not to come out as a Double Champion, and with Fumiko Uei now gone from New Japan, I don't see anyone around who might try to push for Kojima or Kawada to win the IWGP Title. As for Tenzan v Kojima being overplayed, it might be, but if they can string out a third match, where Tenzan drops the Triple Crown back to Kojima, long enough, then it'll be special enough that it will mean something.

The Raw belt will stay as it is, unless it's something Vince really wants to change. Hunter is a big NWA fan, and the big gold belt is what, to a lot of people, represents the NWA, so Hunter isn't about to let that get cast aside, unless it's something that Vince wants to make happen. As for whether it continues the tradition or legacy of WCW, I think WWE as a whole is doing a great job of that itself. Unfortunately, they're continuing most of the bad traditions of WCW.

Bret v Hogan was planned for SummerSlam of 1993. They even shot photos for promotional posters for the event with Hogan and Hart both holding the WWF Title belt. From that, one can logically assume that, at the very least, Hogan was ok with wrestling Bret. The problem came when Hogan was asked to lose to Bret, which Hogan didn't want to do, because of the mentality that Bret was, in Hogan's eyes, too small.

Whoever wins will be both IWGP and Triple Crown champion, but both championships will remain separate; there is no unification. This means that Tenzan/Kawada/Kojima will defend each championship individually, which means that if Tenzan/Kawada/Kojima loses one championship, he'll still have the other, which could, if they so choose, be used to set up a return match for the other championship. As for what will happen, I'm guessing Kawada retains the Triple Crown against Kojima, drops it to Tenzan, who will eventually drop it back to Kojima in All Japanm to set up a successful IWGP Title defence against Kojima in New Japan. This way, each guy gets a big win on his home turf, and they can use the 1-1 deal to set up a rubber match somewhere down the line, presumably when business starts to sag. Well, sag even further. While the IWGP Title has been badly booked over the last year or so, to be fair, a lot of that has been out of New Japan's hands, and down to a combination of bad luck and ego. I think if they keep Tenzan as champion going into this match, and he comes out as a Double Champion, then they'll almost certainly book him as a dominant IWGP champion, while Muto will almost assuredly do the same in All Japan, so that it means something when Tenzan drops the Triple Crown to Kojima. And say what you will about Muto's booking as a whole, the Triple Crown is still one of the best booked major titles in wrestling. So, to summarise: Triple Crown = Kawada to Tenzan to Kojima
