WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Women. You know the ones. The big-haired three-dollar sluts who screamed their asses off for him when they ran WCW Saturday Night at Center Stage in Atlanta. His look was the reason they kept giving him a chance. You can pretty much get away with anything in wrestling if you look good doing it. Looking good doesn't mean you don't make mistakes. Mistakes like taking your wife on the road and staying at the same motel you use when you screw ring rats. -

Bagwell was kicking up such a fuss, that they placated him with the big PPV win, and did the rematch right away, so they could still get the result they wanted. Bagwell always kicked up a fuss about doing jobs. -

I think it was playing off of Giant's personal habits, as, by then, he had long since let himself go, so they made it part of his gimmick. It was Luger Push #798,352. They insisted on repackaging guys who weren't worth that kind of effort. -

He probably felt fine with it, because he'd already killed Goldberg's aura at Starrcade, and so his mission was done. I believe Bagwell kicked up a fuss over doing so many jobs in the lead up, so they had him go over instead. I think it was meant to segue into Savage v Flair, as Savage hit Flair with the big elbow during the match. Not a shock to those who thought it over. -

To show the kind of 'long term planning' they had there, when Sting went back to the black and white costuming for a tag match on Nitro, which was after he'd joined the Wolfpac, Kevin Nash didn't know about it until it happened. Nash was furious, feeling that Hogan was trying to undermine the popularity of the Wolfpac, which is hilarious for obvious reasons. -
Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Puder: The Whole Story
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
Amazing how such a simple concept like that has gone over so many heads. Here you had guy with almost no wrestling training, but with some MMA training, coming in and having a former Olympic gold medallist in serious trouble, to the point that he could have broken Kurt's arm if he wanted to. And WWE let it go, all because it wasn't something they came up with. Would a Puder/Angle angle been a sure fire hit ? Who knows. What is known, and anyone who disputes this doesn't understand wrestling, is that they had a great storyline handed to them, the unknown coming in and showing up the established star, and they totally dropped the ball. -

The future of wrestling that Savage was going to introduce was.....Savage. It was just a way of changing his character, and trying to freshen him up. Not realising you can't freshen up stale crap. And a lot of the crowds for WCW were dead, simply because they weren't being given the product they wanted, so they just sat there. Most of the time, you can put this down to Vince Russo, who was such a total fucking idiot, that he rejected a survey WCW did of their own fans, which asked them what they wanted. The fans said they wanted more wrestling and less skits, but Russo, being the genius that he is, knew better, went in the absolute opposite direction, and sent the company into the shitter. The Fusient deal wasn't dead at that point, but they either didn't know or didn't let on that it was in trouble. The deal for the WWF buying them out didn't come through until the Friday before the last episode of Nitro. Bischoff did a taped interview with Tony Schiavone over the phone on the second to last Nitro to set up the Night Of Champions for the last Nitro, as he had pretty much total booking control at that point, due to the sale, which had yet to tank at that point. -

According the results listed in the Observer, Flair won by DQ, which I presume was due to a Randy Savage run-in, as the next competitive match taped was Flair v Savage, which aired 'the next week'. -

Flair was behind the push of Wright. At one point, Wright was undefeated, and Flair beat him at a WCWSN taping. However, Flair felt so bad over it, that he had the match retaped the next day with a different finish. Wright's first loss was to Arn Anderson at Slamboree 1995. Double A was the reigning TV champion. Flair defeated him by DQ in the US title tournament in May. That was their first meeting. The DQ was for Savage interfering. At Slamboree, Flair had put Angelo Poffo in the figure four. I don't think another finish ever existed for that match. Saturday Night was usually taped on a Tuesday back then and usually on a weekly basis. I don't recall any back-to-back tapings of it at that point (there's a lot of old SN taping results on RSPW). Flair's booking stint ended in July 1995. He was replaced by Kevin Sullivan. From the Observer cover dated May 22nd 1995. And the WCWSN tapings in question took place on May 10th and 11th of that year. -

However, Flair felt so bad over it, that he had the match retaped the next day with a different finish. I remember the Luger missing his title shots angle. It was horrible. It makes the title look like crap if the top contender is can't be bothered to make it to the arena for his shot. He lost to The Giant at Uncensored in March in about 2 minutes. He was meant to be the next monster heel for Hogan to squash, but he was absolutely horrible, to the point that he was probably the worst wrestler ever, that all plans were shelved. He was actually in the Top Of The Super Junior tournament of 1995. They are commonly mixed up with Super J Cups. He got a couple of wins. -
WWE sign FWA talent to OVW contract

Welcome to last week. -
I don't think Meltzer would so publicly say it was RVD, or anyone still with WWE, because he would have to know he'd be basically killing their career. Also, WWE themselves did some internal investigation, and they almost certainly had to find out who it was. I guess that might point to RVD, seeing as during the summer of 2003 he was made Kane's personal bitch.

If he can't carry his load on the mic, then give him a manager who can talk for him. Mind you, that would imply they want him to get over.

He was wrestling a tag match in Helsinki, and Sonny Siaki tried a slingshot moonsault. Siaki landed wrong, and his knees smashed into Funk's face, breaking his nose, and causing major damage. Funk was unable to leave the country for almost a week, because he couldn't fly due to the damage done.
-
He practically dropped out of sight, to the point that he was heavily rumored to have passed away. He might have done the odd Indy date, but if he did, that was the extent of his wrestling.
-
His pops haven't lasted, either. -=Mike He's still getting good reactions, especially for someone who they've made no real attempt to do anything with for over 2 years.
-
Novelty pops don't last over 3 years.
-
The start of 1995 I believe, at least for WWE.

Hansen got the US belt because WCW had a working relationship, of sorts, with All Japan. They also used Danny Spivey as well, and the year before Sting had wrestled Spivey in Japan. I guess Baba felt it would do good for Hansen to have a short reign with a major US Title, so I would presume it was arranged for that purpose. And I don't think the Goldberg angle with him not following the script was ever really resolved. I think it got dropped when Russo stayed home. -

RVD was in WCW for maybe 3 or 4 months from mid-February 1993 until June or so. He was brought in for the Anderson Conference half of the TV Title tournament. The other half was called the Mr Wrestling II Conference. The idea was meant to be that each half was named after a former TV Champion. However, Mr Wrestling II never actually held the TV Title. -

I believe Van Dam actually had a verbal agreement with Bischoff to come in when everything was sorted in regard to the sale.
