OAO Raw Thread - July 30, 2007
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in The WWE Folder
And yet Smackdown has stayed relatively steady. This rating is a disaster on every level. -
It's still considered the most likely reason for setting Benoit off. The last thing I'd book for a wrestling show at the moment is an angle where the wife of a top star threatens to leave him and take the kids, regardless of the fact that will likely turn out to be a swerve. Re: Basham, Damaja, etc. Meltzer made a good point in the latest Observer where he likened them to other wrestlers who had the confidence and charisma beaten out of them and they wound up feeling worthless and working below their actual talent level. It happened with a lot of the Mexican wrestlers in WCW; they were treated as glorified jobbers and you had some amazing talents like Psicosis who lost all their heart and passion from being mistreated.

Jeff Jarrett's WWF Return... the one in 1997
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Boxer's topic in General Wrestling
The changes in gimmick to where he reverted back to the Double J persona was down to Jarrett not getting over a lick with what they were doing with him and trying to find a way to get him over. He didn't get over at all really until he Russo gave him the woman beater gimmick, which is when they became tight. Austin was pissed at Jarrett over the 3:16 comments, but that had nothing to do with Jarrett leaving or Austin's refusal to work a program with Jarrett, and neither was Austin wanting Jarrett out of the company. Austin didn't want to work with Jarrett because he felt Jarrett was not over enough for such a program, and it would do more to hurt him than help Jarrett, and because he felt Jarrett was too light with his work. He made the famous comment that he didn't expect Jarrett to treat the match like a UFC fight but to at least let him know he was in there. -
I don't think we'll see them repackage Eugene, even with the Benoit situation. He's a reliable opening match act that gets the crowd going, who is occasionally squashed to get over a monster. They're comfortable with him in that role and unless either WWE or Dinsmore really push for it, I don't see Eugene changing. Besides, it's like Jingus said; he's the modern day Red Rooster. Even if there is a post-Eugene character for Dinsmore, the Eugene gimmick will always overshadow it.

Jeff Hardy suspended for 30 days
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
True, but you'd think that would be something Jeff or Jeff's board would mention, either to assuage fears that it's something more serious or to make the story plausible. If it comes out that Jeff's been examined or seen a doctor over this, then yes, he probably was injured as bad as is claimed. He's apparently injured enough to where he's been removed from all current plans. You'd think something that serious would cause WWE to get him checked out by a doctor so they know when they can put him back into their plans. That being the case, I would think WWE would want it out that Jeff's seeing a doctor, or that they plan on sending him to one, because of the botched move, if only to stop speculation that it's something other than what Jeff's side are claiming it to be. -

If that's the case, and he is hurting that bad, why hasn't he been sent to a doctor to get checked out? If someone is injured enough to get sent home and removed from current plans, I would think he's injured enough to warrant being sent to a doctor or surgeon to get some kind of physical exam to find out the damage. -

If Jeff is injured enough that he's been removed from all plans for the foreseeable future, why didn't he go or get sent straight to a doctor? They say he's been given time off to heal, but I didn't see anything about seeing a doctor in there, which you'd think would happen if his injuries are bad enough that his feud with Umaga was dropped rather than postponed. -
I had completely forgotten he was coming back. Then you made me remember. Raw could do with a strong second-tier babyface as well. Someone they can feed to heels to build them up. I doubt it'll be Umaga; I think he'll get to that second-tier level, but not as a stepping stone.

Observer. If he's out for that long, Raw needs a new top line babyface to carry the load.

You should listen to them once in a while. They've praised Nancy Grace a fair bit recently, over the improvements she's made in her understanding of the whole mess. -
That would make sense. TNA knows what will make sense, because they always do the exact opposite of it. A pro wrestlers wife threatens to leave him and take the kids, and he goes all crazy on her. Didn't something like that happen in the news recently?

If Jeff is done with WWE, he'll probably get a call from TNA about thirty seconds after his release. -

He was also surprisingly complimentary towards WWE for someone who is meant to have this fierce anti-WWE bias. It was a very good piece, which I think a lot of people should read. -

But look at what a great distraction it's been for certain people. Never mind addressing the real problems or providing ideas for a solution to those problems; much better, and easier, to blame outside forces for being too negative and having an agenda so as not to deal with pesky things like responsibility. In the case of Eric, I'm sure he's just waiting for the right time to talk about how pro-active he was in dealing with the issue of drug abuse when he was in charge of WCW. -

Meltzer's wrong for pointing out that wrestling has a scary amount of deaths and a bad drug problem? And with wrestling's reputation, which the ongoing steroid stories haven't helped with, I can't think of many people who would openly proclaim themselves to be wrestling fans. It's not like people would do that anyway, but with all the Benoit coverage and what could happen with congress, I can see people being even less open about their fandom now than they were before. -

Smell the irony. Maybe Eric should talk about the brilliant drug policy WCW had under his watch. -
TNA Comments which don't warrant a thread
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to dubq's topic in TNA Wrestling
Yes, let's bring in a guy who failed the WWE Wellness Policy, was suspended for 30 days, fired, and also sported a very disturbing 'GH gut'. Is this the right time to be hiring a neon sign for heavy drug use? -

Former World Champion Debuting on Impact Thursday
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to edgehead69's topic in TNA Wrestling
Banderas is supposed to be the new monster for James Mitchell to manage, so it's probably him. If it is him, then referring to him as a former world champion is only getting people up to get disappointed. -

I've critiqued the Iron Man match on here before, so I'll just repost what I first wrote: The thread in question is What are your thoughts on the Bret/HBK Iron Man? if you want to reference the discussion that was going on at the time.
