WWE General Discussion - December 2007

Hopefully the people that count take notice of this (I mean, I'm sure HHH has and is already pointing it out and finding the numbers for Jericho's segments). The only numbers I have at hand for Jericho are for his segment with Randy Orton on the 11/19 Raw, which gained 794,00 viewers. Interestingly, HHH vs. Umaga the week before, gained 89,000 viewers, which may be the weakest overrun gain of the year. -

An interesting stat from this weeks Observer; the Ric Flair vs. Randy Orton match saw the audience grow by 1,205,000 viewers from start-to-finish. -
In this week's Observer, Meltzer credits the reaction, or lack of one, to the TNA fans seeing the old guys and/or former WWE names as the real stars. There's also a story that Joe suggested Homicide for the spot, but was told Homicide wasn't over enough or good enough, and whether the story is true or not, Homicide thought it was and he was irate.

If Vince is annoyed as I think he'll be, he'll have to choices: blame the writers, or blame the ECW name which he resents anyway. Which do you think it'll be? He'll go for option three; write it up to ECW not being on its regular night. -
This was a great show, with J-Roc/War Machine having, appropriately, a war, and Huerta/Guida having a legit FOTY. The TUF 6 final was totally one-sided, which was a bit of a disappointment, if only because I don't like Danzig. A great live special for UFC to end the year on Spike with.

I can see why a TNA fan would want to talk up even the most worthless of triumphs over WWE. -
Why? Regular tv shows break the fourth wall all the time. Live tv has plenty of moment where people go off script. People have no problem understanding those incidents. So, what's so difficult to understand about Joe cutting a non scripted promo? Regular TV shows do a lot of things, but not all of them would fly on a wrestling show because wrestling is completely different animal. Even if Joe's promo was a shoot, has TNA done anything to suggest that it meant anything? Joe and Nash were teaming up on Impact like nothing happened, so if anyone thought it was a shoot, or wanted to think it was one, it's hard for them to do that anymore, and more importantly, it's hard for them to care. If the idea of this was to create an angle that comes across like something real, TNA have done their usual masterful job of failing miserably.

If I could ban people just for liking TNA, you wouldn't be here.

I presume the winner of the BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson fights becomes the new lightweight champion? -

Why would they run a match where the heel could gain legal possession of the belt? If the heels had won the match, Divine would have legal ownership of the belt. Where's the heat? Just because the babyfaces won and the heels stole the belt anyway, it doesn't make having the match any less stupid. -
It's the fact that it was supposed to be a 'shoot', something going against the script, that would go over people's heads.

Why is a singles title on the line in a six-man match anyway? -

What's with this line? Why is it hard to believe someone could be in such pain with only being in the business a few years? Most guys start popping pills early in their careers. It goes to show you how little some of the so called experts know. If he got hooked on pain pills, what he was likely talking about was the withdrawal, which is one of the worst things in the world. I should know because I went through it. Every square inch of your body hurts on top of hot chills. Its absolute misery. And many young people suffer from pain much more than normal due to a variety of reasons, so obviously that little smart ass remark shows they don't really have a clue what the fuck they are talking about in this regard. It's easy for someone who has never really hurt or suffered through pain and addiction to make light of others who do. I don't know how about addiction, but I do know Bryan's really been hurt and suffered through pain, what with being a wrestler and training all the time. -

And to the surprise of nobody, TNA's Mexican dates have been canceled. -
I'm sure Nash and Angle have a lot of say in their own angles, but generally it's the committee of three with the others giving suggestions.
-
It's Jarrett, Russo and Dutch as a committee, but recently Borash, Tenay and Abyss have been sitting in and given suggestions. Jarrett makes the final call and decides the direction.

Dropping the X-Division title to Chris Sabin at last year's BFG. A damn fine match, that was probably the best of the night.
