Lil' Wayne shouldn't even be on that list. Luckily, people have been sane so far and not voted for him. I voted for Black Eyed Peas.

So it turns out Rant's story was a bunch of right-wing manufactured scare tactic bullshit:
-
Right, there are legitimate debates over the extent of & the best response to anthropogenic climate change, but not serious debate over whether it is happening.
-
Not true at all. It may be reported that way, but it is not accurate in the slightest. You gotta be kidding. The media goes out of its way to report on climate change in a "balanced" manner to the point that obscure skeptics and CATO fellows get quoted. Here's a list of organizations that acknowledge anthropogenic climate change: IPCC US National Academy of Sciences The national academies of science of the G8 countries and Brazil, China and India American Meteorological Society American Geophysical Union American Association for the Advancement of Science almost every political party in the developed world, including most conservative ones Also, the two leading scientific journals in the US, Science & Nature, tend to support the idea of anthropogenic global warming.
-
This is not true. There is an international scientific consensus that the earth is warming because of human activity. There is serious debate over the efficacy of Kyoto, but not over the existence of anthropogenic climate change.

Well, I guess the time has come for me to get a new name.

No, sadly. You can sign up for 'Hyperspace' at StarWars.com and get them, but that's subscription. You can find them pretty easily on most file sharing networks, though. I got mine through KaZaa Ressurrection. Actually, you can view a small screen version of it on StarWars.com. If you're a hyperspace subscriber, you get to see it in a bigger version. http://www.starwars.com/clonewars/microser...chapter/25.html In all seriousness, I would just go out and buy the DVDs. I tried that, but I don't think you can watch the older ones. -
Hey I posted this, too.

Do you think the world will end in 2012?

This guy put it well: -

Then explain to me why. Because by any stretch of any sort of analysis, your claim falls on its face. If supply tightens, prices will rise. Higher prices increase incentives to develop alternatives (which we are seeing already). Is there any precedent for such a massive restructuring of an economy (both the global & American economies)? I mean basically our entire economy IS oil. Food, medicine, national defense--it all runs on oil. If supply tightens sooner rather than later, I am afraid that the American oil economy will be woefully unprepared for the shock, given the paltry funding and research toward alternative fuels thus far. Furthermore, I disagree that the transition to lower oil production will be painless. World leaders are aware of the problem. -Dick Cheney This is coming from the guy probably most responsible for US energy policy who also plays a major role in US foreign policy. Because leaders are aware of the impening crunch, the world has been engaging in "oil wars" now for about 30 years. China and Russia are trying to gobble up oil fields wherever they can and using their UN clout to protect their oil producing, human rights abusing hook up countries. Also, even if the US successfully transitions to a post-oil economy, China is just about to hit its stride and have MASSIVE energy demands. I hope your optimism is well founded, but I am less sure. -

Slayer, on the oil thing, nobody with a brain is saying that we are going to "run out" of oil. The purported problem is global demand outpacing global supply. We have seen the effects before of a drop in supply (70s oil crisis). It is undeniably true that at some point, global oil production will "peak", and, after that, some sort of adjustment will necessarily occur. The debate is, I suppose, regarding the nature of those adjustments (living in caves or driving tricked out hybrid cars?). -
In other words, "kicking ass" is, arguably, inversely proportional to the larger goal of establishing a democracy. Also, I think that no matter how well the US military performs, there is no guarantee that the larger objective will be accomplished. Like in Vietnam, we are using military methods to achieve political goals. Also, the larger military strategy (transferring responsibilities over to the Iraqi military and police) is unrelated to the overall goal of establishing a democratic Iraq.

Surely something more eventful happened in your life than going to a movie. Kissing a girl? Seeing a shooting star? Hearing a child's laughter? Something!?!
