Maybe I had just gotten too excited about it in my head, but it was just really underwhelming to me. I guess part of it is that I am studying national security stuff and I couldn't get past how implausible the story was. The movie wasn't boring, it just wasn't as great as I hoped it would be.

I gotta agree with opinion so far. My heart says Omar, but my head says Chigurh. I actually would go further than Lushus and say that Omar has a pretty damn big heart. He also showed some vulnerability in the Season Five, when his action hero jump out the window left him hobbled. He also lowered his guard around children, which ultimately led to his downfall. Chigurh, on the other hand, would slit his mama's throat for nickel and showed absolutely zero vulnerability. Hell, ! Gotta go with the sociopathic hit man over the stickup man with a code.

I would concede that you might slightly edge out Chigurh in a white-off.

I don't really care about the Rick Warren thing because it's pure symbolism and won't actually affect policy. I guess I would prefer someone from the "religious left," but I just can't bring myself to get all outraged here, and gay rights is one of the issues that I care the most about. That being said, if I had my druthers, we would just eliminate all state prayers and religious ceremonialism, of course.

Look at John McCone, DCI during the Cuban Missile Crisis--no extensive intel background and is widely considered one of the best DCIs ever. Even called that our Vietnam adventure wouldn't turn out so great.

Unqualified in what sense? He's going to be managing a bureaucracy, not hopping around Afghanistan recruiting intelligence assets or even producing and analyzing intel. Has anyone in this thread said anything about proportionality or "an equal response"? We've said what Israel is doing won't work and, beyond that, will actively make things worse. Read this. And this. And this.

I pretty much agree with Byron, Czech, & Edwin here--the situation the Israelis are in with the rocket attacks sucks, but this response is probably going to make things worse. I would be glad to eat crow, but all I see coming out of this is more suffering for Palestinian civilians and either an empowered Hamas or a turn in Gaza toward even more radical groups.
