Yeah, I think that's interesting. One would think that Goerge Herbert Walker Armoire Vestibule Bush would have been more effective and would have left more of a legacy than his underachieving offspring. However, it certainly seems that Dubyah will leave much more of an imprint on history and have a much more substantial legacy. And his facial expressions are much more humorous, as well.

The Marine who shot dead an injured man
Big Ol' Smitty replied to Vanhalen's topic in Current Events
I stand up for the weak, yes. And I believe successful people, such as myself, should concern themselves with the plight of those that are less fortunate. Nope, again, I take care of myself. I do believe that government can make positive changes in society and correct for market failures. Here's my stand on the rich man's burden. Do successful people have an obligation to give something back to the community, whether neighborhood, city, state, or nation, after amassing significant wealth? Absolutely. I know that if I make lots of money in life, God willing, I'd like to give back to my original hometown of Arlington Heights, preferably the public library. But I think the obligation to help out others should be a moral one, not a legal one. Thus, the government is not justified to impose obscenely high taxes on people who earned their money. If people can't be bothered to help out those in need, or do something to improve the community, shame on them. I agree that tax rates shouldn't be obscenely high but I do think the government should provide a safety net in case things don't work out for people. I know decent, hardworking people who have simply fallen upon hard times and had to turn to government assistance. Private charity is neither organized nor expansive enough to do so. When I start my career after graduate school, I will proudly pay my taxes because I will know that I wouldn't have made the money without the government's help. -

I don't see it, either. Bush is talking to her in baby talk, how is that racially demeaning? Rice is talking like a parrot. And I don't think her lips and teeth look exceptionally large either--just bird-like. Rice does have kind of a reputation as a "yes-woman" for Bush. She even once, in what might be considered a Freudian slip, referred to him as "my husband." Maybe I'm just being naive, but I definitely don't think the cartoon is overtly racist. I'd like to see what other people think.

There are a lot of thoughtful, non-ideologues here...Cerebus, Czech, Nocal, 2Gold, Karl Rove et. al. I think the ideologues are just louder. -

What do you mean by this? I take care of myself. No, I don't. Nope, I don't. I stand up for the weak, yes. And I believe successful people, such as myself, should concern themselves with the plight of those that are less fortunate. Nope, again, I take care of myself. I do believe that government can make positive changes in society and correct for market failures. No. I think lying is wrong. And I think both sides lie. What truth? Whose truth? Yours? I don't think that I do that. I respect thoughtful conservatives and I have good, close friends who are conservative. I think you are being hypocritical by saying that liberals ridicule people with a different point of view and then saying that "liberalism is a mental disease." And when they crap, pure silk comes out, right? -

I agree that the links to Al-Qaeda were tenuous and that the Bush rhetoric on this subject was misleading. But, from what I have read, we genuinely believed, based on intelligence, that Iraq had WMD. We haven't found any. But do you think that this renders the WMD justification of the war errant? I think that because we truly thought there were WMDs the justification is valid. -
I did "care" about those parts, but I didn't think they were as immediately pertinent to the thread. I would definitely encourage anyone interested to read the entire document. I'm pro-war, by the way. I just think it's kind of silly and naive to think that the single most important strategic resource on the planet didn't play a role at all in the decision making leading up to war in the country that has the second largest oil reserves in the world.

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article3535.htm This is a link to the document produced by the The Independent Task Force on Strategic Energy Policy Challenges for the 21st Century. This is a very interesting document that discusses the impending energy crisis. I have quoted an excerpt that discusses Iraq.

You can say that again. It's juvenile and gross. I would be? WTF are you talking about? And, please, don't quote me in your rambling, angry posts anymore (I'm referring to the one where you said ALL AMERICANS SHOULD THINK LIKE THIS!!!!! and stuff like that). -

Then, here's an idea. Don't read what he posts. Instead of making stupid violent remarks, just ignore him. It would be much more effective. -

If that's the way you see it, fine. Do you think that makes the anti-war set traitorous? -

You calling someone an extremist is like a turd calling trash stinky. -
I think PETA sucks and I think they give a bad name to the groups that do, as you said, give a damn.
-
That was just one definition of several. I don't really consider crap like chess and cheerleading sports, either. This is more how I view "sport": Sport-n. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
-
So someone trained to compete in an active pastime, right? Chess? Bro, I'm just giving you a hard time on this one. It stems from my hatred of PETA. Good point. I didn't pay attention to the "active" part.
-
Eh, what the hell, I'll defend 'em. Sport-n. An active pastime; recreation. Athlete-n. a person trained to compete in sports
