Another Agent of Oblivion question of the day
Big Ol' Smitty replied to King Cucaracha's topic in No Holds Barred
No, I guess that Southern Baptist upbringing rubbed off on me ever so slightly. -
Children SHOULD be taught, if not necessarily by schools, that it's okay to love and be with the person you love. Fuck you if you think it's icky, it's none of your fucking business. And 909, your description of politics as "shoving your beliefs on other people" is stupid and wrongheaded as is your attempt to draw moral equivalency between those on this board critical of religion and the gay bashing religious. The difference is that snuffbox et al. aren't arguing for the government treating a group of people differently based on an ideology. (As an aside, while I am the creator of the most confrontational anti-religion thread in this folder's history, I generally don't think the snuffbox approach to religion, while I may agree with it, is very productive.)
-
I disagree--while I think a harangue from Sean Penn is not the most productive argument for gay rights, people who vote to deny rights to others SHOULD feel bad about that. Just like people who favored banning interracial marriage prior to Loving vs. Virginia should feel bad about that. I don't think lecturing them or screaming at them is the best way to make them feel bad, but they should.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
Big Ol' Smitty replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
Nope, the ex post facto provision of the Constitution only applies to criminal sanctions. American jurisprudence leaves leaves a lot of leeway for these types of actions by federal agencies when authorized by Congress. See, for example, US vs Carlton. -
Man, I didn't think I liked R&B type stuff much but that and the one Czech posted give me goosebumps.

Did you mean Osama? I would kill Pol Pot or someone like that over Saddam.

I just ate a squash dish that my wife made with some brocolli, brown rice, and a salad and a little frozen yogurt for dessert and I've been on the can all night. I can't imagine what would happen if I ate something from this thread.

I can't ever tell when Byron's being sarcastic I think he may always be...

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
Big Ol' Smitty replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
No, that's not really right. The income tax amendment wasn't even passed until the Wilson administration. -
Nightwing is right. Although I've heard that the first round was pretty legit--it was Ahmadinejad's runoff (I think against Rafsanjani) that was pretty smelly.

Also Roho. -
Who gives a fuck? (And I thought conservatives hated PCness?)

It would have been physiologically impossible for me to vote against Return of the Mack. Another snub:
-
I'm shocked there hasn't been a Pit joke yet this deep in the thread.
-
I consider myself an Office loyalist who only recently started watching 30 Rock, but I have to go with Czech on this one. Cranston this week and the Fun Cooker last week were just awesome.
-
I thought all of the Dark Tower books after the 3rd went downhill pretty fast.
-
Czech, I didn't get your "California Love" bears reference.
