This is why registering as an Independent in a closed primary state is really stupid. One of my best pals is a libertarian, and he registered with the Libertarian Party. Only problem is, Kentucky is a closed primary state. I tried to explain to him that he should register with one of the two major parties since he could at least have a say in choosing the more "libertarian leaning" primary contestant, but he wouldn't listen. It's not like there would be anything stopping him from voting for a Libertarian candidate in a general election. Also, it's not like the Libertarian Party in Kentucky is going to have a hotly contested primary to vote in anytime soon.

I didn't say that. I don't really have a strong opinion on the matter. Republicans in Mississippi have every right to do this--they're not breaking any rules. Is gaming the system like this good for the parties or the country? I can't really see how.

You're completely ignoring the fact that Obama is about 10 times the public speaker Edwards is, is more charismatic, less sleazy, not a multimillionaire lawyer, AND wasn't part of the losing ticket in the last presidential election. Add that to the fact that Obama's campaign message was much more compelling than Edwards'.

It's kind of hard to say. Generally highly intelligent people who go to Ivy League colleges and Harvard Law tend to do okay in life. I would say he would have done just fine if he was white. Unfortunately, I don't have a magical hypothetical-race-changing crystal ball. Can you imagine him being as successful as he has been if he were white? I really cannot picture it at all, and I lack the same ball as you do. haha you lack ball Um, anyway. Yes, I could see a charismatic 40-something Ivy League educated white lawyer mounting a successful bid for president.
