"Umbrella" is a good song and the musical quality of "Crank That" is pretty much irrelevant in the face of how awesome its accompanying dance is. But I gotta admit...the dance is pretty awesome. I refuse, however, to join in at the pep rallies, where every student in the school seemingly does this dance.

Ugh, this crap is all the rage at the school where I teach right now. Some of my students found out that I like rap the other day and this one useless kid asked me if I liked "dat Soulja Boy." Also, I was teaching about Martin Luther's 95 Theses the other day and some kid said that Luther "got 95 problems but a pope ain't one." Just thought I'd share that.

I'm saying that the anti-gay backlash of 2004, which I imagine you probably supported if your state had an amendment up for vote, led to the curtailment of things like civil unions and domestic partner benefits, which majorities tend to support. Civil unions laws now can't ever exist in Kentucky (barring repeal of the let's hate on gays amendment) because of the gay baiting of 2004.

Well, the gay marriage amendments passed across the country have prevented that in many states.

Fantastic. That's the exact mentality that got my state this "gay marriage" constitutional amendment that won't allow civil unions and is now being used as an excuse to deny domestic partner benefits to employees of our two major universities. Now UK and UofL are not going to be able to attract talented faculty because Kentucky looks like a podunk gay bashing backwater. Grrrreeeat! Sorry, I'm a little on edge about this issue because a. I feel so strongly about it and b. I am heavily concerned with the current gubernatorial election, in which the "family values" incumbent is pulling out all the stops I love the photoshopped picture of the Democratic nominee laughing with the 10 Commandments and "HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS" bullet point.

No and actively for. I have used this incident as well as David Vitter, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guiliani, Mark Foley, John McCain, etc. to point out the hypocrisy of the Republican Party attempting to portray itself as the party of traditional moral values. I also, like I3K, don't see the connection between gay rights and anonymous sex in public bathrooms.
