you're nice

I see your Clement VII and raise you a Francis II, boy king of France.

This case has actually gotten almost zero play in the mainstream media. That's probably why the story Gogo posted came from a leftwing alternative website. ...the article made sure to emphasize that George W. Bush won that district during a past presidential election? Well, the fact that David Duke won that district is pretty relevant.

This is why I don't like Religion

I gotta say that this is one of the most inane arguments I've read online in a long time. Generally, Jingus, when environmentalists talk about protecting "the earth," they are talking about life on earth, not the actual rocks that make up the earth. -
haha...the Maison Derriere

-Reuters I wonder if he'll run on the "Unity '08" ticket. Also, his Senate seat is a likely Democratic pickup if Bob Kerrey runs there.

Also, as someone working in a school--it is amazing to me that the administration of the school didn't do anything about the existence of a "white tree" on campus. The most fucked up thing about this story isn't so much the arguments and fights between the kids, but the reaction of school and law enforcement authorities.

I was going to post about this, but was lazy. Thanks, Gogo.

Here are my reading lists, FYI: General World History -school textbook -various primary source excerpts (so far we've done the Code of Hammurabi, speech by Pericles & a Spartan King, text by a bishop on torture & persecution of early Christians in Rome, the Magna Carta, & an excerpt from The Prince) US History Honors -school textbook -The Jungle -The Things They Carried -primary source documents (so far we've read letters by the Klan intimidating black politicians during Reconstruction, excerpts of Black Elk Speaks, letters from the Commissioner of Indian Affairs in the late 1800s, writings by Chief Joseph, & Bryan's Cross of Gold speech) European History AP -primary text: A History of Modern Europe by Merriman -supplementary text (for social history): A History of Western Society by McKay -A World Lit Only By Fire -The Prince -Candide -The Gods Will Have Blood -The Dress Lodger -Germinal -The Long Walk -a veritable shitstorm of primary source documents (for instance next week we'll be covering the Reformation so they'll be reading documents by Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, More, et al.)

Awesome. You're hardcore.

My 11th grade US History Honors class is reading this (and Sinclair's The Jungle).

In all likelihood, fewer Iraqis would have died from March 2003-September 2007 if the United States had not invaded. To go ahead and preempt (hehe) Jingus, yes, Saddam was a bad guy. That alone doesn't make the invasion justifiable. A fairy-tale-alternate-reality invasion based on different stated premises & sane ideology, executed competently, could have been justifiable. But to borrow a Rumsfeldian turn of phrase, you go to war with the premises and the leadership you have.

I'd like to know where he's getting that figure.

I didn't say that they were, oh noble lord of the strawmen. I didn't claim that anyone in the present wiretapped Coretta King, I just pointed it out as a historical lesson, you know, the whole "doomed to repeat it" thing. It's a good example of why a government shouldn't have unlimited surveillance powers.
-
Isn't this kind of conclusive proof that homosexuality is not a choice?
-
Aw come on, that example involves people who are all retired or dead. Nobody in charge then is in charge now. Yes, the people in charge now are far more scrupulous.
-
More evidence as to why we shouldn't give the government unlimited surveillance powers:

I could watch this, then "Chocolate Rain" and die happy.

Thanks for posting this, made my day.

Pope avatars are all the rage where I live.

I don't follow. How will Larry Craig trying to get himself some sweet man mouth while atop the crapper take the GOP to libertarian fantasyland?

Hey Jingus, I would be interested in your response to this post. (Seriously, not being snarky)
